Chapter 150: Discord...
Thorne hesitated, looking around the empty corridor before nodding. "Lead the way," he said, his voice tinged with uncertainty.
Nyx turned and walked with her steps echoing softly against the polished marble floor. Thorne followed closely behind, his heart pounding in his chest.
They reached a secluded place at the far end of the palace. Nyx gestured for Thorne to enter first, and he obliged, stepping into the dimly lit space. The air was cooler here, with the faint scent of old stone and a hint of something sweet, like jasmine.
Nyx joined him, leaning casually against one of the pillars as she regarded Thorne with a knowing smile. "You were very bold back there, you know," she began, her tone light but laced with underlying mockery. "Not many would dare to ask Aegis for something so... personal."
Thorne shifted uneasily under her gaze, his confidence faltering. "I thought it was worth trying," he admitted. "I have always admired you, Nyx. Your strength, your intelligence—there is no one like you."
Nyx laughed softly, her eyes gleaming with amusement. "Admiration is one thing, Thorne. Possession is another. Do you truly believe you could handle someone like me?"
Thorne frowned, feeling the sting of Nyx’s words. "I—" he started, but Nyx cut him off with a dismissive wave of her hand.
"Look, Thorne," Nyx said, her tone shifting to one of pretend seriousness, "I appreciate your admiration. But do you really think you can offer me something I don’t already have? They are not really what I want right now, I want something so much more," a sly smile kept tugging at the corner of her lips.
Thorne’s face reddened, a mix of embarrassment and frustration crossing his features. "I only wanted to make an offer. I thought—"
"You thought you could win me over with flattery and promises?" Nyx interrupted, her voice growing colder. "I don’t play games, Thorne. I have my own plans, and they don’t involve being anyone’s possession. Not especially someone like you," she muttered the last part.
Thorne’s shoulders slumped, the reality of her words pressing down on him. "So, what now? Do you plan to mock me further?"
Nyx’s expression softened slightly, though her smile remained inscrutable. "No, Thorne. I have no intention of mocking you. But I do think you should reconsider your approach. Perhaps next time, rather than seeking to possess what you admire, you might try understanding it."
Thorne swallowed hard, nodding slowly. "I understand. I will... I will leave you to your plans."
Nyx watched him with a piercing gaze as he turned to leave. "Remember, Thorne," she called after him, "if you really want me.. you would give me what I want," she smirked.
As Thorne exited that place, Nyx remained behind, her eyes narrowing as she contemplated her next move. The encounter had gone as she intended—she had planted doubt and confusion in Thorne’s mind, all while asserting her own control.
With a satisfied nod, Nyx turned and left there, her steps echoing softly as she made her way back to her own chambers.
The palace, though grand and imposing, felt suddenly small and manageable, the threads of influence and power weaving ever tighter in her hands.
Nyx entered her room, her smile broadening as she considered her next move. The idea of pitting Aegis and Thorne against each other was already taking shape in her mind, and she was eager to set her plan into motion.
She approached her table, where she usually did her writing, her eyes twinkled with mischief , she got a quill and ink, setting them down beside a blank piece of paper. She was crafting a letter that would serve as the catalyst for discord.
She began to write a letter. She had planned she would write it in Thorne’s name. Once Thorne had ’begun to rebel’ Aegis would have no other option but to either kill or make him a rogue.. all over.
She made sure to add his name, and of course his seal, which she somehow stole. She sealed it, and wrapped it in an envelope.
Nyx then moved to the door, where a guard was just passing by. She stopped him with a friendly, sly smile. "Excuse me," she said, holding out the letter. "Could you deliver this to His Highness Aegis immediately? It is a matter of some urgency."
The guard took it from her, curiosity obvious in his eyes, "Yes.. my lady.."
"Do not even dare opening it, it will not be nice if you did," she warned, her brows furrowed in threat.
He turned to leave, but she quickly held him back, "Wait.. do not tell the king I was the one who sent you."
He arched his brow, "huh?"
"Do not.. if he asks you.. just say it was Thorne."
He drew his head backwards, "I can not say that my lady, if he finds out I lied, he will kill me."
"That does not matter, he will not find out anyways. Just go.. I promise to give you something very nice," she winked.
His cheeks reddened, "Okay my lady," he left her there.
As the guard left, a grin appeared on her face. She gracefully walked into her room, her eyes beaming with joy.
"Oh goodness, this is going to be so much fun! Aegis, wait.. till you start having discord all around you," her playful grin turned into a cold sneer.
As she returned to her desk, Nyx’s smile was tinged with satisfaction. Her machinations were well underway, and she was poised to watch the resulting chaos unfold.

The guard knocked on Aegis’s door, "Who is it?" He grunted.
"I have come to deliver something your highness," came the guard’s voice from outside.
"Come in" he said, his voice drained of any emotion.
He opened the door, and made his way in. He dropped the letter by his bedside table, "Here it is your highness," he said, and bowed.
Aegis eyed the letter, he shook his head, "Give it to me."
He quickly picked it up, and handed it to Aegis, "here you go your highness," he laughed a little nervous.
Aegis just shook his head, he was not in the mood to get irritated, he didn’t want to be.
He tore the letter open, taking in it’s contents. His eyes widened, as he kept on reading it. His face reddened with anger.
He could feel his wolf trying to take the better part of him, and just kill whoever wrote this.
"How dare he write this?!" He roared.
The guard flinched, he had wanted to say Nyx but remembering her promise, he kept quiet.
"Where is he? Go get him for me! Now!"
The guard shook, "Ye- yes your highness," he quickly left the room.
A messenger was sent to go get Aegis to the palace.
Aegis was beside himself with rage, his eyes almost popping out of their sockets. He huffed and puffed, ranting about Thorne’s audacity.
====
Thorne had arrived after he had heard Aegis wanted to see him. He hurried over to Aegis’s room, wondering what he had done to warrant being called on such short notice.
"Your highness," he greeted when he had entered Aegis’s room.
"You rogue! You dare defy me!"
"What do you mean your highness? What did I do?"
Aegis stared at him with disgust, cringing at his words.
"You should be ashamed of yourself Thorne. How could you say such things all because you want Nyx? She is not in your age group rogue!"
Thorne was hurt by his words, but chose to remain quiet.
"Your highness, you are speaking in riddles, please explain."
Thorne flung the letter at him, "what was that for? Huh?"
Thorne caught the letter. A frown etched on his brow as he read through, "What.. who wrote this?"
"Are you really asking me that?" He bellowed.
"Your highness.." his eyes widened, "I did not write this!"
"Oh, is that so? That is your seal down there, is that not it?"
"Yes.. it is.." he sputtered.
"If not you that you are one of my closest friends, I swear Thorne, I would just kill you right here, and now."
"I did not write this!"
"Oh shut up! You liar, do not contradict yourself. That is the letter in your hands, would you still lie?"
His hands grew cold, he began to shake, "What? No! Your highness.. I.. someone must have written this, and used my seal."
"Who would use your seal other than you?"
He went quiet.. "I.. have no idea," he said, his brows still furrowed in thought.
"You are only a shameless fool! I am so ashamed of you Thorne. How could you lust after a child! You are five hundred and fifty seven years old, Nyx is probably twenty five. Can you not see the difference yourself? How shameless!" He spat.
Thorne just couldn’t take it, "That is enough Aegis!"
Aegis stopped as soon as Thorne called him by his first name.
"What did you just call me?" He asked, his voice a dreadful whisper.
"Do not forget where we all were before you suddenly became king! For once respect yourself!"
