Chapter 143: She begins to strike..
Aegis squinted, leaning back on his throne in silence, his mind a battlefield of conflicting thoughts.
’That’s true,’ he mused, ’but what if she gets carried away?’
He propped his chin on his left hand, eyes fixed on the floor as he debated whether to let things proceed as they were.
"Your Highness?" Thorne’s voice broke the silence.
Aegis raised a hand, "Let me think," he replied grimly.
He took a deep breath before speaking again. "Nyx, this isn’t a good idea. You might get carried away in the process. I know exactly how annoying my nephew can be," he grunted.
Nyx nearly snapped but forced herself to maintain her composure. "Well, Your Majesty, if that’s what you believe, then you should be prepared to be overpowered by him at any moment," she said casually.
The elders exchanged horrified glances. Was she threatening the king?
Aegis blinked. "Excuse me?"
"That’s the truth, Your Highness. If you refuse to listen to me, then be ready to be suppressed," she replied simply, her voice laced with confidence.
"Oh my goodness, the nerve!" the elders whispered among themselves.
Aegis clenched his fists. "Is that supposed to be a threat?"
"No, Your Highness," she smiled slyly. "I’m just telling the truth. But it seems you’re not ready to accept it. Are you scared, perhaps?"
He shot to his feet. "I am the king! I fear nothing!"
The elders flinched, but Nyx remained unfazed. She shrugged. "If you’re not scared, then this is the best advice," she grinned.
The muscles in Aegis’s face tightened, his complexion flushing bright red with rage.
"So be it, then. But if this fails, I promise you, I will not go easy on you!"
Nyx remained unfazed by his threats. "You can trust me, Your Highness," she said, standing up and heading toward the door.
Her boldness was striking; she dared to walk out on the king without being dismissed. As she reached the door, she paused. "Oh, and one more thing... you might want to send him a letter in my name," she chuckled, then left the throne room.
The elders stood gaping after her. "Now that is the kind of she-wolf I want," Astrum said to another elder, lust evident in his eyes.
"You’re right," Thorne replied, his eyes twinkling. "I’d love to get close to someone as graceful as she is."
Aegis stood there, fuming. He felt insulted—Nyx was far too stubborn to be his advisor, yet she was the only hope he had.
He exhaled, his eyes wide with anger. ’This Nyx is making a fool of me!’
"Did you all see what she just did to me?" he demanded, but the elders were too engrossed in their conversation about Nyx to pay him any attention.
"Enough!" he yelled, and they fell silent.
"You’re all a bunch of perverts! Ogling a she-wolf who’s younger than the youngest of you here. Useless fools! What purpose do you even serve?"
"Your Highness... you wanted her as your special advisor. We can’t contradict her, since she holds a more important position than we do," Oakley, another elder, interjected.
Aegis turned to him, his face twisted with annoyance. He stalked toward Oakley, his eyes blazing with fury.
Oakley gulped, realizing he had stepped into dangerous territory.
Aegis stopped right in front of Oakley, his expression cold and merciless. With a deliberate stretch of his hand, claws extended from his fingers, gleaming dangerously. He grabbed the back of Oakley’s head, forcing him to bend forward. Without hesitation, Aegis thrust his hand into Oakley’s chest, ripping out his heart in a single brutal motion.
The room fell silent, the remaining onlookers frozen in place. Aegis let Oakley’s lifeless body collapse to the ground, where it lay motionless at his feet.
"Take his body out of here," Aegis ordered, his voice as icy as his gaze.
The others scrambled to obey, hastily lifting Oakley’s body.
"What... of his heart, Your Highness?" Thorne stammered, his voice quivering with fear.
Aegis handed the still-beating heart to Thorne, his eyes narrowing. "Hang it in the center of the throne room. Let it serve as a warning to anyone who dares to challenge my authority."
Thorne accepted the heart with trembling hands, nodding quickly. "Y-yes, Your Highness," he muttered, before hurrying out of the room.
Aegis stood there, his chest heaving with the weight of his thoughts. Frustration bubbled within him, finally erupting as he slammed his fist against the wall.
"When I get my hands on him, she will pay dearly," he growled to himself. "But for now, I must stay focused."

Meanwhile, Nyx made her way to the kitchen, a mischievous grin playing on her lips. As she entered, she took in the bustling scene, with preparations for breakfast well underway.
"Excuse me, where is the head cook?" she asked one of the helpers, who was busy assisting the cook.
"He’s in the pantry. He’ll be back shortly," the helper replied.
Nyx nodded, her eyes scanning the room. The servants were engrossed in their tasks—cleaning dishes, tidying the kitchen, and setting the table. She knew Aegis planned to have breakfast with his warriors that morning.
Seizing the opportunity, Nyx approached the table where Aegis’s meal was being prepared. Glancing around to ensure no one was watching, she quickly added honey to his dish, mixing it thoroughly. Her task complete, she slipped out of the kitchen as swiftly as she had entered.
---
Later, in the dining room, Aegis’s warriors greeted him as they took their seats.
"Good day, Your Highness," they said, bowing respectfully.
Aegis sat at the head of the table and cleared his throat. "Good day, my trusted warriors. I’m pleased you accepted my invitation. It’s an honor to have you all here."
"Thank you, Your Highness," they responded in unison.
Aegis sighed, his expression growing serious. "I need your help with something important. Nyx is supposed to be bait to lure Oberon back to the palace so we can kill him. But I suspect there may be a twist. Nyx was once close to Oberon."
"What do you want us to do, Your Highness?"
"Strike him as soon as she agrees," he grinned.
Silverclaw narrowed his eyes, "Should we kill him there or bring him here to be killed?"
"Kill him there. I want to see his dead body, not him. That would be the most pleasant sight of my entire life."
Silverclaw nodded, "Yes your highness. Noted."
He sat down, "Let us have breakfast then," he motioned for them to start eating.
He took a few spoons. The honey Nyx added to his dish began to take effect.
Aegis’s hands trembled as he struggled to control his claws. They extended and retracted involuntarily, as if his body was rebelling against him. His fingers contorted, twisting into unnatural positions, causing his claws to emerge at awkward angles.
The usually sleek and sharp claws now seemed dull and brittle, like brittle twigs snapping in the wind. Aegis’s eyes widened in horror as he watched his own hands, unable to stop the unpredictable movements.
His claws scratched the armrests, sending splinters flying, and tore through his robes, leaving shredded fabric in their wake. The confusion was maddening, as if his body had developed a mind of its own, defying his every attempt to regain control.
Aegis’s body began to shift, his human form blurring into a hybrid state. His skin itched as fur sprouted, covering his arms, legs, and torso in a thick, gray coat. His face elongated, his nose flattening into a snout, and his ears pointed, as if trying to become wolf-like.
However, the transformation was incomplete, leaving him stuck in a grotesque, in-between state. His muscles bulged, straining against his skin, causing his body to twitch and contort. Aegis’s eyes, now a piercing yellow, darted wildly, as if struggling to maintain a grip on his humanity.
His voice was a mixture of a growl and a scream, a haunting sound that sent shivers down the spines of those around him. The fusion was a twisted, unnatural blend of human and wolf, leaving Aegis a snarling, snapping, and utterly terrifying creature.
His warriors were stunned when they saw this.
"Your highness! What has happened to you?" They all rushed towards him.
He tried to speak, but he couldn’t as his body still rebelled against him.
"This must be a reaction! What was in his food?" Silverclaw asked, as he sniffed his plate.
"Honey?"
"He is allergic to honey.. we all are!"
"Quick! Let us take him to the doctor!"
They all began to hold him, despite his abnormal transformations as at that moment.
Meanwhile Nyx watched from the shadows, a sly smile on her face. She was waiting to see this moment, a face slapping moment.
"Hmph, I am only just beginning," she purred, "expect situations worser than these."
With a satisfied smirk on her face, she walked back to her room, her heart racing with her little victory.
"Let him suffer for a while, a taste of his own medicine."
