Chapter 142: Nyx’s power

Nyx lay on the bed, still wrapped in the sheets. She stretched, and yawned, still feeling tired of the events of what had happened earlier.

She slowly opened her eyes. She looked to the side of the bed, hoping to see Oberon lying on the bed.

She was disappointed to see the bed empty. She groaned, "He left me?" She frowned, and then realised he had to leave later on.

She sighed, "Hmph, just comes, and goes," she muttered, feeling somewhat annoyed.

She got down from the bed, her head still spinning, "oh goodness," she muttered groggily.

There was a knock on the door. She furrowed her brows, "What do you want?" She groused.

"My lady, the king has invited you to his throne room, there is a matter he would like to discuss with you," came the voice from outside.

She rolled her eyes, "Give me an hour, I will be with him soon," she added.

"Okay my lady," the voice replied.

She heard his footsteps receding, and exhaled, "get to work Nyx."

She walked off to the bathroom to wash herself.

An hour later, she was already dressed, and ready to meet Aegis.

She gracefully entered the throne room. Many pair of eyes turned to look at her, obviously ogling her.

"Good day your highness," she bowed before the throne.

Aegis smiled, "Welcome Nyx, have a seat."

With her chin held high, she graciously sauntered to an available seat, with pair of eyes following her every movement.

"I hope you know why you are here?" Aegis asked her.

She shrugged, "because you asked for me," she replied simply.

He furrowed his brows in a frown, "I am not here for any of your little games. That is not the reason I called for you!"

She chuckled, "Well, I do not know the reason I am here, I do know called for me. Is that a reason for you to get annoyed your highness?"

He clenched his fists, "Do not get me.."

"I think you should leave her alone your highness," one of the elders present, chipped in. He was obviously eyeing her.

He closed his eyes, and exhaled softly. If she was the key with which to get Oberon, then he had to be as patient as possible.

Nyx shook her head, a smug smile on her face, ’Keep going,’ she said to herself.

"Now, with the special adviser now present, we can start," Aegis announced.

"She is the special adviser now your highness?" The eldest of the Elders asked, his eyes widened with shock.

"Yes, as of now, she holds a more important position than all of you," he said coldly.

Aegis’s announcement sparked a mixture of shock, curiosity, and discontent among the elders. They exchanged skeptical glances, whispering to each other.

Nyx, however, seemed unfazed by the sudden promotion. She leaned back in her chair, her smug smile still plastered on her face.

The eldest elder, a wise and aged man named Thorne, spoke up, "Your Highness, with all due respect, what makes this...young woman qualified to hold such a position?"

Aegis’s eyes narrowed, his patience wearing thin. "Nyx possesses certain... skills that will be crucial in the days to come. I trust her implicitly."

Nyx raised an eyebrow, her gaze locked on Aegis. "And what exactly are these ’skills’ you speak of, Your Highness?" she asked, her voice laced with amusement.

Aegis’s face darkened, his jaw clenched. "You know exactly what I’m referring to, Nyx. Don’t play dumb."

The room fell silent, the tension palpable. Nyx’s smile never wavered, but her eyes sparkled with a knowing glint.

Thorne cleared his throat, breaking the silence. "Very well, Your Highness. If you trust her, then we shall reserve our judgment... for now."

Aegis turned to face Nyx.

Aegis leaned forward, his eyes fixed intently on Nyx. "I have a plan to capture Oberon, but I need your expertise to ensure its success. He’s proven to be a cunning foe, and I won’t underestimate him again."

Nyx raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Go on."

"I plan to ambush him at the old windmill on the outskirts of the kingdom. My scouts have reported that he’s been spotted in the area, and I believe he’ll take the bait."

Nyx nodded thoughtfully. "And what makes you think he’ll fall for the same trick twice?"

Aegis’s expression turned grim. "That’s where you come in, Nyx. I need you to tell me how Oberon thinks, what he’s likely to do in this situation. Can you get inside his head for me?"

Nyx leaned forward, a sly smile spreading across her face. "Oh, I can do better than that, Your Highness. I can tell you exactly what Oberon will do... because I know him better than anyone else in this room."

The elders exchanged skeptical glances, but Aegis’s eyes lit up with interest. "Go on."

Nyx’s smile grew wider. "Oberon won’t fall for the ambush. He’s too smart for that. But... he will come to the windmill, and he’ll come alone."

Aegis’s brow furrowed. "Why?"

Nyx’s laughter was low and husky. "Because, Your Highness, Oberon has a weakness... and I’m the only one who knows what it is."

Nyx leaned forward, her eyes glinting with excitement. "Here’s what we’ll do. We’ll set a trap for Oberon at the windmill, but not the kind you’re thinking of, Your Highness."

Aegis raised an eyebrow. "Go on."

"We’ll use me as bait," Nyx said, a sly smile spreading across her face. "Oberon won’t be able to resist coming for me, especially if he thinks I’m alone and vulnerable."

The elders exchanged skeptical glances, but Aegis’s eyes lit up with interest. "Continue."

Nyx nodded. "Once Oberon takes the bait, we’ll have him right where we want him. But here’s the catch - we won’t attack him immediately. We’ll let him think he’s got the upper hand... until it’s too late."

Aegis leaned back in his throne, a calculating glint in his eye. "I like it. But what makes you think Oberon will fall for this?"

Nyx’s smile grew wider. "Because, Your Highness, I know Oberon’s secrets. And I know exactly what he wants most in the world."

Aegis’s eyes narrowed. "And what might that be?"

Nyx leaned forward, her voice barely above a whisper. "Me."
