Chapter 79: I’m getting a divorce...

Noah POV

I watched as Selene left the room, and it felt as if my heart was ripped from my chest. I rushed out of the room and followed her out. As I rounded the corner, I froze when I saw her crumple to the ground. Guilt filled my heart as I watched her body shaking with sobs.

Suddenly, I saw Xavier and the girls walking towards her, I hid by the corner and watched as Xavier went out with my mate. For a moment, I contemplated running up to him and asking him to unhand my wife to me.

Gritting my teeth, I started back to the room, feeling wrath simmering within me as I started straight to Brooke who was talking with Princess Jade.

"How dare you?" I yelled "What on earth have I done to you for you to think you can sow chaos and mistrust in my family? I don’t know why you’re doing this or what you intend to gain from it but it ends here now!"

"I didn’t do anything, my dear Noah," she chuckled "If anything, I was supportive. I didn’t even tell your wife that you’re supposed to be wedded to Princess Jade? I can’t believe that you cannot even appreciate my kind gesture,".

"Your kind gestures?" I scoffed "This is your last chance. The next time you pull a stunt like this...you lie with my name... I swear to the moon, I’ll have you banished from this pack and declared as a rogue. Don’t try yourself, Brooke... your father is such a sensible and law-abiding pack member, it’ll be such a loss to discover that his daughter is nothing but a two fucking timing bitch. You laugh with me in my face and then you act like a friend to Princess Jade... I’m sure she’d like to hear your stupid proposal,".

"What proposal?" Jade asked us eyeing both of us curiously.

"Just a word of warning again, Brooke...stay the hell away from me and my wife and pray hard that nothing comes in between our union because if it does, then I can assure you, that banishment, I will consider it,".

For a flicker of a moment, I was almost impressed to see Brooke’s chest rise and fall in open defiance, those smouldering eyes glaring back at me unrepentantly but she didn’t say anything.

"Don’t talk to me like that, your majesty?" Her tone dripped with derision as her lips curled into a snarl "Did you forget that we have history... messy history that you wouldn’t want me to bare to the public. Don’t push me to do what I don’t want to do, because, I swear to the moon... I’m not going to leave like I did, 3 years ago. This time, I will wait, and I will tell my side of the story,".

"You two..." Jade pointed at us "What the fuck is going on? What history is she talking about, Noah? Wait!" her eyes widened with shock "Don’t tell me...".

"I double dare you, Brooke," I said quietly "You should go ahead and do everything you say you’ll do or else, you’re still the fool and coward that I’ve known all these years and as for you, Jade!" I turned to her "You cannot force me to marry you. I have a wife whom I love and nothing is going to change that. You can play all the tricks you want, I don’t fucking care but I will not marry you,".

"I see, your majesty!" An amused glint settled on Jades’ face as she walked up to me "Did I mention that I always get what I want? I always make sure of it and we both know that you do not want war but I promise you, Noah... if you do not make me your wife, a lot of bad things will happen... very bad things,".

I stood, gaping at her with mockery teasing at the corners of my lips "Don’t worry, Princess, I’ve had that is your usual method and it’s alright. If you will not take your phone and call your dad to tell him you’re fine... then I promise we’ll not force you to do whatever you don’t want. So, don’t worry, I won’t be bargaining that with you. Do whatever you want!"

I turned and started walking out of the room with Reid beside me. I could hear the hurried, dainty footsteps of Princess Jade behind me.

"Don’t you dare walk out on me, Noah? I am supposed to be your wife. I am better than Selene, more beautiful and my marriage will cause more prosperity to your kingdom. Are you seriously going to throw that away? Are you going to trade good trades and availability of resources for that woman?"

I twirled suddenly, making her nearly run into me "This is the last time I will warn you, Jade...don’t talk about my wife like that. The next time I tell you this... I swear to the moon...I will take action,".

I turned on my feet once more with Reid following closely behind. My mind was running in a thousand thoughts. I wanted to go after Selene and Xavier but duty calls first.

"What is the situation of things?" I asked Reid as we hurried along the corridor to my office.

"Our insider says the King of the West is preparing emissaries and soldiers. First, he would send the emissaries and make it seem like they came for a peaceful mission, then next after they leave with the princess the soldiers will attack. What do you suppose that we should do I’m freaking out right now. I know how...".

"Gather all the elders of the pack and the Alphas that came for the meeting., I wish to have a meeting with them and then, you’ll get me on the line with Princess Jade’s father... I think it’s high time we address this issue once and for all,".

"Yes, your majesty," he nodded and then started to leave before he paused and tracked back to me "What is the purpose of the meeting, your majesty? If you were just going to have meetings with the elders of our pack it could have been understandable but having a meeting with the Alphas is a little out of place. What do you have in mind?"

"I am going to propose to the King of the West and before that... the information I asked you to check about Princess Jade, do you, have it?" I asked.

"It’s on your file in your office," Reid replied.

"Good!" I nodded with satisfaction "That will be all for now. Just help me round up the elders... in the next few minutes, I’ll join you at the meeting room,".

Reid nodded and left; I could see him eyeing me strangely... I knew he had a lot of questions but this was neither the time nor the place to answer those questions. I waited until he was gone before I walked towards Selene’s scent, which I had picked up a while ago.

The scent led me directly to the green room. When I opened the door, I stopped in my tracks when I saw Xavier holding my wife’s shoulders as he looked up at him. I could see tenderness in his gaze and also warmth.

Closing the door with a loud bang, to announce my presence, I started towards them. As soon as Selene saw me, she whispered something to Xavier and then started towards the door, refusing to catch my gaze.

"Selene!" I blocked her path "I was coming to look for you. I’m sorry for everything dear and I will explain,".

"Explain what, Noah?" she asked with a small smile "Explain that you agreed to marry Princess Jade in exchange for trading access? That you lied to me in my face and made me look like a fool in their presence? Do you know how much it hurts to always be the person that doesn’t know?"

"I kept it from you because I didn’t want to hurt you. I was looking for a way to go about everything without involving you and today, I was coming to tell you because it seemed like it was spiraling out of my control. You know I’d never hurt you, Selene... you more than anyone should know that,".

"Then why didn’t you tell me?" she screeched as tears formed in her eyes.

My gaze flitted from her to Xavier who was standing at one side of the greenhouse looking at us quietly. She couldn’t have known about the marriage proposal from the West unless someone had told her and the only way Xavier would know is if someone close to me too had told him because I tried to make sure to keep all the information discreet.

"Did you do this?" I asked quietly watching him.

"Don’t worry, Uncle," he said with a patient smile "We only figured out the reason why Princess Jade would be here and marriage was the only variable that looked real. I didn’t sell anything to her that wasn’t already quite glaring,".

"The least you could have done; is show your support by not fueling things, Xavier," I sighed "Please... a lot has been going on already, I don’t want to keep fighting with my wife,".

"Don’t worry," Selene gave a small dry laugh "You won’t have to after today because I am getting a divorce!"
