Chapter 68: My wife and I are one...

Noah POV

"Rio, I really need you to focus right now. This is important, please!"

"Why can’t we be without our mate?" he blew hot at me "You’re not even trying to mate me. It’s three days until the mating moon disappears. I can’t believe you’re not making even a single effort,".

"I have a lot on my plate to be thinking of mating, Rio," I gritted my teeth in frustration "Have you taken one look at my desk? Don’t let me get started with the spillovers on that coffee table. I promise, as soon as we settle this urgent pack matters, I’ll give you a big treat,".

"You’ll focus more if I get that big treat now. Go find the Luna and mate with her. Please,".

"Rio, for fuck’s sake!" I roared, hitting my hand on my desk and sending everything flying. "You’re torturing me, stop it,".

"Same goes for you too," he said stubbornly.

I ran both hands through my hair, trying to control myself from thinking about Selene. I was pacing my office trying to calm myself when the door opened and a blonde-haired woman peeked in.

"Rio, giving you problems?"

I froze as strawberries and peach scents wafted up my nose as the woman entered inside closing the door gently behind her. It was Brooke... my long-time ex-girlfriend. My heart began to beat violently against my chest as Rio moved restlessly within me.

Not a single thing about Brooke had changed. Her blonde, platinum hair was parted in the middle of her head, falling past her shoulders in long, wavy curls, she had a pink romper that stopped a few inches away from her butt cheeks.

Just the way I used to like it.

She was wearing sandalwood with a hint of strawberry. I felt my body weakened as I watched her approach me helplessly.

"I hope the shock is for seeing me after so many years and not because something is wrong with me," she chuckled as she came closer and gave me a full hug.

My body curled delightfully as I felt her breasts on my chest. She stayed for a minute longer just enough for me to inhale her rich fragrance on her neck. Rio was jumping inside of me with excitement, he’d always loved Brooke’s wolf Alia.

"Earth to Noah!" she snapped her finger in front of me, giving me a cursory glance "Are you alright?" she asked.

"Yeah!" I nodded swallowing hard as I moved behind my desk and sat down hiding the bulge that was slowly growing in front of me.

"You’re married, Noah! Your wife is beautiful, curvier, and smells sweeter than this woman standing in front of you!" I chanted it to myself as if it was some sort of protection.

"Are you sure?" She asked and came around my desk, as he cupped my face "You spaced out for a moment,".

It took all the willpower I had at that moment not to grab her and bend her over my desk. Shaking my head from her hand, I give her a small smile as I indicate that she should sit on the other side of the table.

"I was just surprised to see you, that’s all," I said. "How are you doing? When did you arrive?"

"Last night," she said "I wanted to come see you immediately but my dad told me you have a Luna now and it was improper. Where is she by the way? Do I know her?" she pressed.

"She’s out running some errands. I thought you decided that you’d stay abroad forever. What changed?" I asked her trying to change the topic.

"I missed home!" she sighed and looked out of the window "I missed Moon Whisper in Spring, Autumn, Winter, Summer... I missed my dad... my family and ..." she sighed as her gaze held mine "I missed you too, Noah, so much in fact,".

I didn’t say anything because I didn’t know how to respond. Knowing who Brooke was, she could be calm one minute and dramatic the next. If I responded in a way she wasn’t expecting she could pick an offence and the last thing I wanted was Selene walking in and seeing her in my office bawling. It’ll be difficult to explain.

"Did you miss me?" She broke into my thoughts.

"No!" I said quickly "Anyways, it’s so nice having you back. I want to pour over some files and look at some petitions," I said dismissingly waving my hand over my desk.

She nodded and rose to her feet "Can I come for dinner at yours tonight? We could catch up, I could meet your Luna... you know, that sort of thing,".

"I’m not in the position to give you permission, you could ask my wife when she comes back," I said reaching over for a file.

"Oh!" her eyes widened with shock but she shrugged daintily "That’s ridiculous Noah, you’re the head of the family, inviting someone over is not so much of a bad thing,".

"Not when I’m married, Brooke!" I said calmly "My wife and I are one and I can’t do anything without her permission. So, you either wait and ask my wife for permission or you forget about it,".

She stared at me for a second... I could see doubt flickering in her eyes before finally she scoffed, turned on her heels and started to leave the office.

Just before she reached the door, it opened and Selene marched into my office looking furiously.

"Noah! You wouldn’t believe what just happened. I’m sick to my brink at the ridiculous way your pack members are treating me,".

"Hey!" I immediately rose to my feet and met her halfway as I enclosed her in my arms.

She was so soft and pliant and... I shake my head to clear off my thoughts. I didn’t want to be hopeful about something that may not happen sooner or later.

"It’s fine okay. Can you calm down and tell me what happened?" I murmured as I stroked her hair with my eyes closed.

We just held onto each other with me relishing just having her in my hands when suddenly, Brooke tapped on Selene making her jerk out of my hands as she turned to her with surprise etched on her brows.

"Hi!" Brooke said cheerily "I greeted you a while back while you stormed into the office. I guess you were too angry to see me. Anyways, my name is Brooke, you must be Luna Selene," she stretched her hand towards Selene.

I couldn’t believe she was still here.

I saw Selene scan the girl’s length as she took her hand reluctantly turning to me with confusion on her brows.

"This is Brooke!" I murmured dryly, one of the Pack Official’s daughters and Brooke this is my wife, Luna Selene,".

"You didn’t have to do a double introduction dear," Selene told me quietly "I heard her the first time,".

"Splendid," Brooke said with a smile "How do you like Moon Whisper?" Brooke inquired staring off a conversation.

"It’s fine," Selene replied.

"I was about to head out anyways," Brooke said warmly "It’s such a pleasure to finally meet you. See you around," she winked before she moved towards the door.

As soon as she touched the door’s knob, she turned backwards and started to us again.

"Luna!" she faced Selene "I heard you’re currently on the hunt for Betas and I may know a thing or two about managing that position. Can I apply?"

"Be my guest," Selene said with a calm smile.

"Alright, thank you so much," Brooke nodded flashing us her beautiful smile before she turned on her heels and finally left.

I stared at Selene anxiously half-expecting her to ask me questions about Brooke but she started talking about why she had come to me in the first place.

"So, apparently, the kids have been calling the girls every unprintable name about how their mother is a whore and all that. For Vina to have reacted the way she did, it would only mean that she couldn’t take it anymore,".

"I’m sorry darling," I sighed "I’ll try to see what I can do about it,".

"That was exactly what you said to me some days ago. The insults are getting out of hand, Noah. I can’t walk around the pack anymore without being taunted and now they’re coming for my kids, I won’t take it,".

"I’m going to call for a meeting and I’ll also make an official introduction to the people plus we could fix charity events and have you mingle with them. In situations like this, we just need to change the narrative and convince them that whatever they heard isn’t the truth,".

"And you could also check the people working with you, they’re the ones that started all this nonsense talk," she hissed.

"I will darling," I placed a kiss on her forehead. "Have you had something to eat?"

"Not yet!" she shook her head "What happened between you and Brooke before I came in,".

My heart sank, as I observed her cold expression.

"W-What are you talking about? She just came in to say high and was about to leave when you came in,".

"Is that so?" she scoffed "Then why was there a bulge in your trouser?"
