Chapter 67: Changing husbands like clothes...
Selene POV
"That’s not what I mean," Leonard said calmly "You might be forced to take sides and you should know all of these things are inevitable. There’s no telling what you may do differently when you start having children for my son,".
"So, what are you advising then? What do you think I should do?"
"First, you must make sure that Noah doesn’t adopt the girls as his children. They belong to Xavier and as women, they can be married into good families, I’ll make sure of that. Secondly, regarding the marriage, we could start making contacts and see if they can be betrothed now and later when they’re of age, we can get them married,".
My eyes twinkled with amusement at the seriousness I saw on his face. To think he was giving me this advice because he cared amused me even more. Was he so sure that I would do whatever he said?
"So, if Xavier should get married to another Luna and have children with her, we can safely guarantee the girls’ portion of inheritance without having problems," he said finally.
"Okay," I nodded "Thank you for your kind advice, Grand Lycan but as you know, at the end of the day, I am only the mother and will have no say in the futures of my children. We don’t have a lot of power you know,".
"Well!" he shrugged "You could convince your husband and take advantage of his generosity,".
"If that had a 100% guarantee, I’m sure Nora wouldn’t have allowed me to marry Xavier. The decision was made even without her consent. Xavier was dying and all his father wanted was a way to preserve his life. His mom wanted that too but she was expecting someone from a nobler family than me,".
"Let’s stop going back to the past, Selene. We’ve been over this several times. Okay, tell me... what other means could be employed in situations like this?"
"By recognizing the office of the Luna as an executive arm. We all know being a Luna means dressing pretty and supporting your husband without having any original voices of our own. We should participate in decision-making, welfare of the pack and every other thing other than being sidelined. Being a Luna is beyond breeding an heir,".
Leonard stroked his beard as he watched me with quiet eyes.
"Giving a woman authority is dangerous," he finally says "That won’t work. There must be some way to make things like this work. A decree of even a law will suffice,".
"As if!" I hid a smile at the back of my hand "You know the laws are only applicable to a particular, divide. When was the last time people played by these laws? It’s for the Omegas and Deltas who do not have the affluence that we do,".
"We cannot relegate authority to women, Selene and that’s final," he sighed and then pulled himself together. "I’ll leave first and I hope you put in mind everything I’ve told you so far,".
"I will, your majesty," I curtseyed and waited until he left the room.
More than anyone, I knew I had swayed him... and I could bet my most prized possession that he was going to consider it eventually.

Life as Noah’s Luna didn’t seem as bad as I had envisioned it.
It’s been two weeks since our wedding and the Carrell Clan have left to their various packs, Reid still couldn’t hide his irritation for me and I was still hesitant to choose a Beta. No one seemed to fit in my specifications
As for Noah, he was too busy these days to even join us for dinner. Each night, by the time he comes upstairs, he’d only have time to bath before he sleeps off. All the unattended duties he left behind when he came to find me at Greyhound had unfortunately piled up.
So, there was really no time for him to make advances at me.
This afternoon, I was picking the girls up from school. I got bored staying at home doing practically nothing so I went first to grocery shopping, and decided to pick the girls up from school.
Like other mom’s I parked my car outside the school compound and decided to wait for the girls at the reception. As I sat, I noticed some of the women were sending me hostile glares but I didn’t care.
I was already used to the hostility and right now, I didn’t care if they were going to get used to me in the future or not. I just wanted to focus on myself and my daughters.
Ignoring them, I decided to go through my phone as I waited.
"Mom!" Maeve’s voice was filled with accusation.
I raised my head up and saw her standing a distance away from me, she had a deep scowl on her face.
"Hey baby," I waved at her and rose to my feet "How are you doing? Where’s your sister?"
"Where is Nana? Why are you here?" Maeve asked again still putting a distance between us. It was as if she didn’t want me to be here at that moment.
"I was shopping around the area and decided to stop and pick you girls from school. Would you like to have ice-cream later? Consider it my treat," I tried to broker peace with the ice cream bribe.
"No!" Maeve said vehemently "I don’t want ice-cream, mom. You shouldn’t be here. You just make things worse,".
"Worse?" I tried to play down on the intensity the words carried "What do you mean dear? Did something happen? And why hasn’t your sister shown up until now?"
"She’s at the principal’s office," Maeve sighed tiredly.
"What! Why?"
Maeve just stood there looking at me without giving me any response. My blood boiled with rage as I picked her up and started towards the direction of the principal’s office. When I entered, I walked past the secretary, ignoring her questions of ’Did you book an appointment?’ and pushed open the door.
When I entered, Vina was sitting on the chair in front of the principal with her head bowed downwards. She looked as if she was being convicted of a crime.
"Vina?" I called out to her entering the office "What’s wrong baby?"
"Mrs Carrell," the principal, a grey-haired woman was crouched in front of a boy with a bloody face. She immediately straightened and came towards me "I was about to call home but thankfully you came here,".
"It’s Luna, to you, Madam Principal," I said coldly and turned my gaze to the other couple in the room "And Do I need to come in with trumpets and bass for me to get a proper greeting around here?"
Reluctantly, they rose to their feet and bowed towards me.
"Greetings, your majesty!".
"What is my daughter doing in your office looking like a convicted sinner?" I ignored their greetings and faced the principal.
"Well, Vina broke a school law today by fighting with that young boy there and also injuring him in the process. So, that’s why we’ve been...".
"For how long have you had her in the office?" I cut her mid-sentence.
"W-Well," she stuttered "For a couple of hours, maybe. We called the boy’s parents first since he had an injury and we had to be sure that...".
"Were you even going to call me, Principal? Do you know how wronged I feel that my child is here without a representative? How unfair everything is at this moment?"
"We were going to reach out, Luna. I promise. It’s just that we panicked for a moment when we saw the injured child and..." she trailed off.
Taking deep breaths, I walk over to Vina and knelt in front of her, pulling her into a hug. She immediately burst into tears but I didn’t mind. I held her nestled against my neck as I consoled her.
I was also using the time to access the situation. Vina wasn’t violent. If more than anything, she would rather engage verbally than go for the person physical. And the swollen eyes and broken lips I was seeing on the boy looked like something way out of her proportion. It’s not as if they couldn’t do it since they already have their wolves but I’ve drummed it into their head severally that they shouldn’t in any situation expose their true power.
"Are you trying to tell me that my child did that?" I pointed at the boy.
"Yes, Luna," the principal said meekly "According to those who were on the scene when the fight occurred, your daughter had a heated argument with him that translated into a big fight which I was told she attacked first,".
"I am not trying to take sides here but I need to hear from both children what truly transpired because I know my daughter must have been provoked beyond reasoning for her to have attacked,".
"Are you trying to justifying what she did?" the mother of the boy sprang to her feet "My soon is currently in pain while she walks freely. Is that the so-called justice you’re talking about?"
"I know my children, ma’am," I said fiercely "I know what they’re capable of doing and what they would never do,".
"Then you could have done a better job of raising them instead of changing husbands like clothes!" the woman lashed out.
