Chapter 65: How long do I wait?

Noah POV

"Did something happen?"

Reid followed me hot on my trail as soon as I left the pack house. I was piping hot. Last night was still playing fresh in my head. For the life of me, I didn’t know what I did to Selene for her to hate me so much. Snippets of the pure disgust I had seen on her face came back to me.

She didn’t like me enough to give me her body.

To make it worse, Rio my wolf has been silent all night. At first, it had perked up with excitement but after I tried kissing her the first time and she brushed me away, he just slipped into reclusion. It could only mean one thing; my partner was responding to me as much as I was.

"Cancel all my meetings for today, I want to be alone,".

"I can’t ask the emissaries from the Middle East to go just because you don’t feel like it," Reid said stubbornly "They’ve been waiting for you since yesterday for an audience and they only reason they’re delaying until now is because of your wedding. It’ll be rude to turn them away,".

"Then let them wait!" I threw over my shoulders "I told you I am not in the mood to talk to anyone, Reid. Don’t make me repeat myself,".

"Are you kidding me?" Reid scoffed "You fucking know how important meeting with them is for us and the pack. Are you going to keep making excuses and keep shrieking your duty?"

"Don’t talk to me that way, Reid," I shouted "I am the King,".

"Then do your fucking duty," he stepped in front of me, matching my glare with his "Don’t turn us into a circus which you have these past few weeks. You ran away to chase a woman, now that you have her, shouldn’t you at least care for the welfare of your pack,".

"What?" my eyes widened in surprise "What are you talking about?"

"You left your pack unprotected to go after a woman, Noah," he retorted bitterly "Do you even know what the people are saying. You more than anyone should know how pivotal it is for the Lycan King to always be present in his pack. Don’t you fucking know that?"

"It is everyone that is selfish," I yelled back at him "For the first time in my life, I finally love someone and see reason to protect them. To cherish them, to fight for what’s mine. Why do you all have a problem with that?"

"I don’t have time to banter words with you, Alpha," Reid said calmly "The emissaries are waiting for you in your office,".

With that, he turned on his heels and left me standing there. I couldn’t see anyone in this state but that meeting was important. I swallowed hard, running a hand through my hair as I tried to think less of Selene before I started to my office.

The meeting with the emissaries lasted longer than I expected. By the time we were done, I was feeling more miserable than I felt this morning. I wanted to see Selene so badly. After seeing them off, I decided to go back to the packhouse when I met Selene and Reid facing each other obviously having an argument.

My heart leapt joyfully when I saw her, hating the distress I saw on her face.

"Oh, Noah!" she brushed past Reid and rushed to me with tears in her eyes "I’ve been looking for you all over the place,".

"Why? What happened?" I asked coldly.

Reid arched his brow with surprise as he gazed at both of us. I knew he was surprised at my response but I was too angry to care now. I was still hurt,".

"C-Can we at least talk..." she paused and turned to Reid who was regarding us curiously "In private at least,".

I studied her for a while, before finally exhaling.

"Fine! Let’s go," I said and took the lead.

The chances of been eavesdropped on since Reid had witnessed the cold friction between us was high, so I decided instead of having the conversation within the pack house, we should go somewhere else. We ended up in the garden.

Settling on one of the reclining chairs, I turned to face her staring at her morosely.

"I’m sorry!" she sighed and came closer to me, "I’m sorry that I couldn’t perform my duties as your wife to you. Honestly, you didn’t deserve it at all and I swear, I’m sorry. Please...".

I swallowed hard, trying to fight the urge to grab her and take her here again. Her scent filled my nostrils; intoxicating me. I wanted Selene so bad. Goddess!

Taking my eyes, off her, I stared into the distance.

"There’s absolutely no excuse and I’m still trying to get used to having another man touch me maybe but I’ll do better,".

"But you had no problem jumping into Xavier’s bed," I heard myself say bitterly.

"I’m sorry," she whimpered lowering her gaze. "I’ll try to make it up to you,".

"Make it up to me?" I scoffed raising her chin "Lycans have big sex appetite, Selene. I was willing to understand and give you time to adjust at least but the problem here is you hate my touch. You hate it so much when I touch you. Right?"

"T-that’s not it," she shook her head

"Don’t fucking tell me that!" I growled at her "You hated making love to me so bad that you had to throw up afterwards. What other conviction do you think I need?"

"I was just tired," She argued. "The strain of the wedding, your family, the kids... everything is overwhelming Noah. I am your wife now and it mean my responsibilities are bigger and coupled with the fact that nobody wants me to be their queen,".

"That’s not true," I shook my head vehemently "Everyone is going through a phase. Once you show them how much of an amazing person you are, I’m sure they’ll like you even more,".

"I hope so," she said with a warm smile "I really and truly hope so,".

After that, silence hung in the air as both of us were wrapped in our thoughts. After what seemed like an eternity, I shifted towards her on the sofa, and gathered her into my hands trying to ignore how she stiffened at my touch.

After a few seconds, she relaxed against me and sighed "I swear, I’ll get better Noah. I’m willing to try, I promise. I just need you to understand that. It will take a while but I’ll get there eventually, I promise,".

I didn’t say anything. I placed a kiss on her forehead, feeling Rio reviving slowly inside me. I wanted to be with her at this moment. To watch her moan with pleasure when I see her. To see her writhe with wanton... I wanted to make love to Selene.

My lips trailed her eyelids, dropping soft kisses on her nose, her cheeks, aching so much to taste her lips but I held back. I wanted this to be what she wants too.

She opened her eyes and lifted her gaze to me as she gazed sadly at me.

"C-Can you give me time, Noah?" A tear rolled down her cheek "I want to totally give myself to you but, I need time to get used to this... to us!" she sniffed

"For how long, Selene?" my voice caught in my throat "How long do I have to wait for you?"

"Just a little while, dear," she cupped my face placing a tiny kiss on the bridge of my nose making my blood race with want. I’ve never wanted anyone the way I wanted her at this moment.

But I also wanted my marriage to work. I wanted kids, I wanted her to love me eventually, I wanted children. I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her so I would wait.

Burying my head on her chest I murmured "Okay,".

"Thank you!" I heard her sigh "I promise you won’t regret this and I’m sorry for earlier... I know I was the reason you asked that no one be served breakfast,".

"Nah!" I shook my head "It’s time I teach my people a small lesson. They shouldn’t come to my house and insult my wife. Did the instructor come by the way?"

"Yes," I nodded "But I could hardly concentrate. I was so worried about you," she sighed.

"Yeah," I nuzzled her chin, inhaling her scent again. It was driving me crazy.

If ever she would need time, I need to be as far away from her as possible, else, we might as well kiss reasoning goodbye.

"Okay!" I rose to my feet setting her on the ground, while painfully aware of my manliness that strained against my trouser "Can you go ahead dear, I’ll join you and tell Cook to serve some food. I’m very hungry,".

"I thought we’re going to leave together?" she stared at me puzzled.

Without saying a word, I lifted my shirt and showed her the bulge on my trouser enjoying the way her cheeks turned red as she looked away.

"I’ll join you shortly,".
