Chapter 64: I only answer to the king...

Selene POV

"What?" I scrambled to my feet "Is that supposed to be a thing? How can my presence or absence impact everyone?"

"Mummy please just hurry, I’m starving," Vina cried.

I rushed into the closet and picked the first clothes my eyes fell on before rushing out again. When I returned it was just Noah in the room.

"Where are the girls?" I asked searching for them.

"I asked them to go ahead. Are you done?" he asked me quietly.

"Yeah, I think so," I nodded unable to meet his eyes. I didn’t expect he’d be talking to me in the first place.

"Then let’s go," he reached for my hand and together we started towards the door.

I could feel the guilt gnawing inside of me as we moved. Last night had been so terrible and more than anything, I knew he was looking forward to it. It was my fault that everything had gone haywire.

He deserved an apology at least.

"Noah!" I stopped walking as I tried to get his attention.

"Yes," he turned to me looking surprised "What’s wrong?" he asked.

"S-So," I swallowed hard "About last night. I’m truly sorry. I didn’t intend to hurt you on purpose I swear. I just ...".

"What exactly are you apologetic about?" he suddenly asked staring at me silently.

"Well," I shrugged "Everything,".

"No, Selene," he shook his head still regarding me with a calm expression "I want you to specifically tell me what you’re sorry for because you offended me a great deal and in so many parts so I need to know what apology you’re giving,".

"Oh, Noah!" I sighed and tried to reach for his face but he took a step backwards.

"Now is neither the place nor time, Selene. Let’s just go have breakfast, everyone is waiting for us,".

He reached for my hand again and together we went downstairs. When we entered the Great Dining Hall, the silence there was deafening. As soon as I entered, more than ten pairs of eyes stared in my direction. I could see disgust and disdain on their faces as they looked at me.

You couldn’t blame them. What they say about a hungry man being an angry man was true. Noah escorted me to my chair next to him while he sat at the head of the dining with his father on the opposite side.

I had barely settled down when Nora’s voice rang bitterly.

"It seems your Luna wasn’t educated on the etiquette of dining and being a queen. She keeps us here for four hours, walks in without acknowledging the presence of Dad or Mom and goes to her seat as if she didn’t just keep everyone starving. I can’t believe Xavier had to put up with this for 7 years,".

"Nora!" Nora’s mum chided her daughter "You shouldn’t say that,".

"Why not?" Nora continued angrily "If no one is going to call her out for her rudeness and...".

"That’s enough!" Noah’s voice thundered as he slammed his hand on the dining table, his eyes blazing with rage as he turned to his sister. "One word from you and you can kiss breakfast goodbye,".

The room went silent.

"She’s my wife and I expect everyone to accord her respect. Learning takes time and it’s my fault that the queen is not conversant with the manners and ways of the Lycans but I’ll see that she’s properly educated," Noah said... this time calmly.

"As if!" Nora mumbled under her breath, loud enough for everyone to hear, even Noah.

Angrily, Noah rose to his feet grabbed the dining cover and flicked everything to the side so that all the dishes that were set on the table crashed to the ground. His pupils had turned black and his face was red with rage.

"That’s it!" he shouted "No breakfast for anyone except the girls. Someone call me the Pack cook!"

We all rose to our feet... I was surprised. Never have I seen him so angry as he was at this moment. What was disturbing however was his family didn’t seem to mind. They were all acting as if this was normal behaviour and they were used to it.

Noah managed to bring himself under control while the Pack Cook came in.

"You’re not to serve anyone food, snack or anything in the pack house today except the children. If I hear or should catch you feeding anyone, your head will answer for it. Do you hear me?"

"Yes, Your Majesty," The pack cook bowed while Noah stormed out of the hall, in annoyance.

"Gosh! Why is he so angry?" Nora scoffed glaring at me "It’s not like I said anything bad,".

"I told you not to concern yourself with your brother’s marriage. Now see what has happened," her mom sighed.

Silently, the Grand Alpha walked out of the room with the rest of his family in his wake. I sighed in relief because I half expected them to face me. When we were alone, the girls I had held onto tightly finally broke the silence.

"That was scary," Maeve said "I’ve never seen him so angry,".

"Is it really the food that made him this angry?" Vina questioned "I doubt it,".

I lowered my gaze guiltily as I scooped the girls in my hands and we headed out of the dining hall to give the maids space to clean the hall. I followed the girls back to the room and watched as the kitchen staff came to serve them breakfast. While the ate, the chatted happily.

I was too tired to tell them not to talk as my mind flitted to Noah’s reaction a few minutes ago. Vina was right, it wasn’t the food that had caused the anger. It was me and I felt so bad that everyone had to suffer because of me.

I had to find him. Else everyone would use this as an opportunity to hate me more.

"Behave girls, I need to go find Alpha Noah, okay?"

"Okay mom," they nodded happily and continued chatting. As soon as I closed the door and took a few steps toward the stairs, the housekeeper followed by a middle-aged woman suddenly stopped.

"Luna," the housekeeper said excitedly "I was about to come look for you. She says she’s from his majesty,".

"His majesty? Where is he?" my eyes scanned above her head searching for Noah.

"I wouldn’t know, Luna," the middle-aged woman said pleasantly "He has sent me to enlighten you on your roles and duties in this pack,".

"That’s great," I nodded "But can we do that later, I need to find, Noah,".

"I’m sorry, Luna," the middle-aged woman’s expression became stern "But I’m simply following orders. Unless you want his majesty to have me punished, you best come so we could start your training,".

I looked at the door longingly, wondering where Noah could be. Unable to protest, I followed the woman dutifully to the Morning room. There was already a board and a chair set by the window.

"Good afternoon, Luna, I believe we didn’t introduce ourselves properly. So, my name is Marisa and I am the one in charge of training Lunas and instilling them with our core values and teachings. You can choose to call me Marisa or teacher; anyone that pleases you,".

"Okay," I nodded distractingly checking my phone to see if Noah had replied to my chat but he hasn’t yet.

"Now, before we continue, do you have any questions for me?" she asked.

"No!" I shook my head.

"Great! Then as of this moment, I’ll see you as my student and you should treat me as you would your teacher. I am going to have to ask you to submit your phone since you seem distracted by it,".

"What?" I looked at her incredulously "No! what if my children need me or something?"

"The little princesses have their personal maids and Nanny. What could they possibly want from you. Please hand over your phone except you want me to report your insubordination to the king,".

I stared at her incredulously surprised by how easy it was for her to threaten me. Reluctantly, I handed over my phone to her. For the next two hours, I sat there listening to the history of the pack, all the kings before them, and what not.

By the end of the of the lesson, I was irritated, tired and nervous. As soon as she handed my phone back to me, I quickly checked my chats and discovered that Noah had seen the messages but he didn’t reply.

Immediately, I ran out of the room and into the courtyard. It was almost midday when we finished. I didn’t know who to ask where he could have gone to. I had not even the slightest ideas where he was.

As I wandered around the courtyard calling his number and chatting him simultaneously, I stumbled into someone.

I turned ready to apologize when I realized it was Reid, Noah’s Beta.

"Oh, it’s you!" I sighed in relief, thank goddess, please can you take me to where Noah is? I need to see him,".

"I’m sorry, Luna but the King doesn’t want to see anyone at the moment. He specifically gave strict instructions regarding that,".

"But I am not anyone," I argued. I am his wife and he will see me,".

"Unless I get clearance from him that you should be admitted to where he is, I apologize my queen, but I won’t let you go to him,".

"I demand it!" I said vehemently "How dare you disobey my orders?"

Reid looked at me for a while before he cackled dryly. "I’m afraid Luna but I only answer to the king,".
