Chapter 62: And so it begins...

Selene POV

I watched as confusion flickered first in his eyes before it turned to understanding of what I just said.

"S...Selene, you know that’s not possible. Nora has been presiding over it as a leader since she was a young adult. Asking her now to step down..." he trailed off looking at me helplessly.

"What are you afraid of, Noah?" I scoffed "Isn’t it a bit wit weird that you’re the presiding Lycan of the East Coalition while your sister your sister rules beside you? It was meant for the wife of the Lycan and not her. It’s only right I demand that the position be passed on to me,".

"I understand your logic dear and I agree with you," he sighed "But with the bad blood in between you, Nora wouldn’t want to listen to your logic. She still blames you for a lot of things and...".

"It’s fine," I said quietly cutting him short "It’s not really necessary, let’s forget about it,".

I rose to my feet and made my way towards the bathroom at one corner of the room, I could feel Noah’s eyes on me as he watched me. Alone in the bathroom, I splashed cold water on my face, trying not to think too much of everything that had just happened.

The only thing I could think of was how much of a disaster my marriage was heading to. I gave a short mirthless laugh as I stared at my reflection with disgust wondering how I got to this point. All I ever wanted was to be loved back by my husband. I hadn’t anticipated that I would be caught in between a family feud and a marriage which I had a bad feeling about.

A short knock sounded on the door as Noah’s voice reached me.

"Are you alright?" he asked gently.

I splashed water on my face one more time, shut the tap and opened the door nearly running into Noah who was standing anxiously at the door.

"I’m fine," I gave him a small smile "Let’s go back to the party, we shouldn’t be missing right?"

"Selene... please," he sighed running a hand through his hair as I saw tears pool in his eyes "I don’t like this uncomfortable unspoken heaviness between us. Look, I’m going to try to talk to my dad about it and see if he can convince Nora to step down but no promises, okay?"

"You don’t have to," I shrugged stubbornly "After all, I am not a Lycan like...".

"Stop saying that Selene," a tear rolled down his cheeks as he grabbed my shoulders and pressed me to his chest in a hug "I want to give you anything you ask for without holding back but no matter how powerful I am, my power is limited. Can you just be patient with me? I swear, I’ll make it happen. Please,"

I could feel his heart thumping wildly in his chest and I wondered if he was so afraid of losing me. Did he really love me as Selene and not as a warm body to satisfy all his needs? Was all of this genuine? After all, I enjoyed endless attention and love from Xavier during the first few months of marriage before everything went downhill.

"You’re doing it again," Bea chided me silently "Noah is a good man".

"Selene, please say something?" Noah’s words pierced through my thoughts.

"Okay," I nodded beaming a bright smile at him "I understand and I will wait,".

"Okay!" he sighed in relief as his eyes searched my face "I love you," he murmured and leaned in to kiss but I shrank back.

It wasn’t until I had performed the action, that I realized what I had just done. I raised my head guiltily noting the painful expression that passed through his eyes.

"I’m sorry," I crooned lowering my gaze "I am not used to you yet,".

"Yeah," he sighed "We’ll get there eventually. We have the rest of our lives. C’mon, let’s go, Reid just mind-linked me now, they need us at the reception hall,".

Hoisting myself to my toes, I planted a kiss on his lips, and was rewarded with a sharp inhale from him as I felt his breathe quicken. It will be a miracle if I spend the night in the same room with Noah and he doesn’t do anything.

Hand in hand, we walked out of the room and headed to the reception hall. When we entered, everyone was seated and waiting for us. There was a giant cake in the middle of the room and someone waiting by it with a decorated cake knife in a platter.

I looked up to Noah who was grinning from ear to ear like a child who has just seeing candy.

"That’s got to be the biggest cake I’ve ever seen in my entire life," he chuckled and pulled me inside the hall towards the cake.

After all the formalities, we finally cut the cake and before I was officially coronated as the Lycan Queen. I stood there with my sceptre of authority in my hand while my gaze traced the crowd until it landed on Nora. Our gazes met and held and, in that moment, I made a vow to myself that I was going to take my pound of flesh.

It was nearly midnight when I decided to call it a day. The celebrations and festivities were just starting... Noah’s wedding was a much-anticipated wedding, so everyone was in the mood to celebrate.

"I think I’ll call it a night here," I shouted above the din to Noah, I’m tired,".

"Me too," he nodded and whispered something to Reid who nodded before he rose to his feet and assisted me too.

Silently, we walked towards the pack house. I stopped at the girl’s room to check on them and thankfully they were sleeping soundly. I was thinking of ways to escape sleeping with Noah tonight and I had really been hoping that they girls would be awake so I could use them as an excuse but my rotten luck.

Heaviness hung between us as we continued to his bedroom... it was expected and customary for us to consummate our wedding night and I knew I couldn’t escape it. Sighing, I walked into the room trying to think of other things.

"Have you decided on who you want as your Beta?" Noah asked suddenly breaking the silence.

"No!" I shook my head "Not yet. I know this sounds crazy but it feels like I don’t know everyone in the pack. I’ve tried to think of all the faces of credible people that I’ve worked with and try to remember if I had enjoyed working with them but my brain keeps coming up blank. It’s so frustrating,".

"I know," he chuckled silently as he alternated between the closet to our bedroom, slowly undressing "but I could make a few suggestions if you want,".

"Yeah, I wanted to ask you for that too but I wanted to choose someone by myself. The person might be flawless in your eyes but will not pass my high standards," I murmured wiping off the makeup on my face.

He finished undressing and wrapped himself in a bathrobe then sat directly behind me. "Are there distinct features you’re on the lookout for?"

"Assertive, ability to think on their feet and mostly importantly..." I paused and turned to him with a smirk playing on the corner of my lips "Won’t try to seduce my husband,".

"What!" he threw his head backwards and laughed "Why would you even say that? If I can survive staying celibate for years..., is it now that I have a wife that I won’t be able to?"

"Last time when I represented Moon Whisper at that economy conference you couldn’t go to, I sat in front of two young Lunas and I can assure you that I didn’t hear a word of what the speakers were saying as those two Lunas filled my ears with pure entertainment. Like, you cannot even imagine. They talked about how their Betas were each giving their husbands blow jobs and one of them said when she confronted one of them, she said she should be glad, she’s not trying to take over her position,".

"Don’t worry, my love," Noah gazed at me tenderly "I won’t do that to you. To me, you’re the only woman that exists,".

"But come to think of it," I paused and turned to face him "You’ve never for once talked about your Exes. Why? Don’t tell me a pretty man like you have never had a woman?"

A sad smile settled on his lips as he stretched "I’ve only been with one woman all my life. She moved on with someone else and broke my heart. I promised not to open up to anyone until you and until now, I still can’t believe I fell in love again. Took me by surprise,".

"Wow, you’ve never mentioned an ex? Do I know her?"

"I doubt," he shook his head "She’s one of the daughters of the pack officials and it’s been 7, 8 years or even more,".

"What’s her name at least?" I pursued curiously.

"Brooke," he sighed and rose to his feet as he came towards me "Do you want to join me in the bath?" he asked.
