Chapter 53: The Full Moon...
Chapter 53: The Full Moon...
Selene POV
"Why not?" Maeve pouted crossing her arms across her chest.
"Because I’ll be too busy to take care of you. You know as an Alpha and...".
"You should be more caring of your children, Dad," Maeve interrupted "We should be your first priority and not the pack. How will you learn how to take care of the pack when you cannot take care of your children?"
"I’m sorry darling," he scratched his head and turned to me, looking helpless.
I snickered and quietly slipped out of the room, leaving him to his fate. Just as I left his office and walked down the corridor leading to the bedrooms, the door to Noah’s bedroom opened and he leaned against the entrance of his room watching me.
There was something about the quietness in his eyes that worried me. When I got close, he suddenly shot his hand, blocking my path and in a flurry, tugged me to himself so that I fell on his chest. I was trapped in his arms, there was nothing I could do at this point.
"Hey," I gave him a bright smile.
Instead, he tugged at my chin, lifting my face up to him as his eyes scanned my face for a moment. I knew he wanted to kiss me but I didn’t want to now. I wasn’t in the mood. As I tried to remove myself from his hold, he pulled me closer to himself and without warning, captured my lips.
His kiss was warm and yearning. His hands cupped my neck and the other on the small of my back as he pressed closer to me trapping me into his warmth that strained heavily against the fabric of his clothes. His breath quickened as he moaned into my mouth allowing his tongue to run along my lower lip.
Somehow, I didn’t want to do this to him, so I just remained plaint in his hand, wishing the assault would stop. Finally, after seeing that I wouldn’t open my lips to him, he sighed and pulled back placing his forehead on mine instead.
"You don’t want to kiss me?" he breathed heavily.
"Not that," I gave him a small smile and moved away from his embrace now putting some space between us. "We’re in the middle of the hallway, anyone can walk by now,".
"Well, everyone knows that we’re engaged. This should be a normal sight," he said and reached for me again.
Involuntarily, I took some steps backward "I’m sorry but we should really stop. What if the girls walk by and...".
"What the fuck, Selene!" he grinded his teeth "Are going to keep doing this? These excuses when is it going to stop? Last time it was Xavier and now the kids? Why are you doing this to me?"
"We can’t let them walk in on us kissing... I wouldn’t want to send out the wrong impression,".
"It’s just kissing, Selene!" he threw his hands up in the air "It’s not like I have your clothes on the floor. I just want to feel you and make you mine. I pine for you, Selene... I want you in more way than...".
"Stop... stop..." I flinched fighting the urge not to stick my index fingers into my ears "You don’t have to be so vivid. I’m sorry but today I just have a lot in my mind. There’s a lot to process and to say the truth, I can’t wait to leave here,".
Noah bobbed his head up and down severally as if he was trying to swallow the words bubbling inside him. Finally, unable to contain them, our eyes met and held and then he asked.
"Do you regret it?"
I averted my gaze as my heart began to thump with fear. I knew what he was talking about but I’d rather play dumb than admit that.
"Regret what? I feigned ignorance.
"Rejecting Xavier! I saw how you hesitated... how you almost did not want to say the words. Do you regret it? Maybe a last sex would have flushed him out of your system and..".
"That’s enough, Noah!" I cut him short, my eyes blazing with annoyance "I know you’re horny and maybe not in the best of your reasoning but please don’t insult me. Xavier was my mate... you would have the same reaction too if you were in my shoes,".
"Not when you boasted to me that you totally cannot wait to finally end things with him. It’s not too late, we could end things because if you can’t let me gain access to your body, we might as well...".
"For moon’s sake!" I yelled as my voice echoed "Can you fucking give me a break, Noah. I can’t believe we’re fighting over this. You promised that this isn’t the reason why you want me and I know you’re impatient...." I trailed off as I saw the hurt in his eyes.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. When I opened them, I moved closer to him and placed a hand on his shoulder "I’m sorry for overreacting and you deserve the right to want me and all. I’m just distracted that’s all but no worries, I’ll be fine and have you forgotten our rendezvous later tonight after the run?"
"I don’t know if can wait until tonight," he tugged at me again as his lips crashed onto mine. This time, his hands roamed my body, nipping, caressing, squeezing. His breaths were coming in short spasms and I felt so irritated but I stayed put. I allow him to shove me into his bedroom, kicking the door in his wake.
Then he pinned me against the door and resumed kissing me. My hands were splayed on the opposite side of my body as if I was being searched while he continued roaming my body. I could feel the desperation in every of his movement.
But I knew he wasn’t his fault. Female werewolves are always at their peak three days before a full moon and it’s much worst than this. It didn’t help also that my scent filled up everywhere, intoxicating even me.
"You smell so good, babe," he growled, running his tongue around the base of my neck... almost at the spot that had Xavier’s mark before. I tensed wondering what he was trying to do.
"I want to mark you," he said in between tiny bites "I want to make you mine,".
"Okay!" I gently extricated myself from him noticing that his pupils had gone dark "It’s too early for that and we haven’t even accepted each other yet,".
"Then," he grabbed my hand again, looking at me earnestly "Let’s join ourselves her? We could any elder from the pack here to wed us,".
I rolled my eyes... I’ve forgotten what it meant to have a man who’s under the influence of the full moon be around you. it was always so chaotic.
"That will be a big disrespect to Xavier, darling," I removed his hands from me as I patted on the door until I found the door knob. "See you later" I smiled and then in one swift motion, I opened the door and ran out.
***
By sunset, the Pack House was alive with servants going up and down... preparing a banquet that we will all fall back to after the run.
The girls were glued to their father’s side and have refused to leave him. It was funny watching them demand for attention at every turn and sometimes, I would spot Xavier sighing for the 100th time probably trying to explain a particular thing to the girls.
Noah at the other hand; I had purposely avoid sitting next to him and at the moment. From where I was seating, I could still see him giving me smoldering looks. A few hours later, we were ready.
I had clothes laid out for the girls by the large oak tree that was meant for the Alpha’s family. This was the first time that they would be running in their wolf forms and I was slightly terrified.
As we all assembled at a clearing, waiting for the moon to shine in its full glory so we can finally change into our wolf form, Xavier shifted close to me.
"Are you ready?" he asked with a wide grin.
Technically, this was my first run too in my wolf form so it was a lot to me, honestly.
"I don’t know," I exhaled... I had a bad feeling about everything but I didn’t want to jinx it and project my fears on everyone. "I just feel...".
My voice got drowned as suddenly people started shouting joyfully pointing to the full moon that suddenly appeared.
"See you later, baby," Xavier gave me a wink and suddenly transformed into his wolf.
Fighting the fear in my heart, I prepared myself for the transformation and in seconds, I was done. I looked over to the girls who were already ahead and beside their father. Keeping an eye on them, I sped through the forest feeling the wind in my fur and the moon up above shining like a beam.
It seemed with each ray of the moon that hit me, I was getting more energized and I loved it... I spotted a clearing in front and from where I was, it seemed like some sort of ditch.
I howled and hooted at Xavier trying to stop him but didn’t listen... he didn’t even break. Searching the crowd, I spotted Noah easily since he was a Lycan and his wolf was bigger than ours. Sprinting over to where he is, I shouted over the din.
"I think there’s a ditch in front.... Can you see it?"
I watched as he squinted for a few seconds but shook his head "No, can’t!"
"But I can... my night vision is 100/100. Can you at least...".
I didn’t finish saying the words when a shot rang out and 100 metres from where I was, dark, hairy wolves suddenly sprang out from the bushes.
