Chapter 146: I stood there transfixed, still torn between joy and sorrow...
Xavier POV
The night had fallen thick and heavy over the pack house when Lucius finally agreed to come with me to my room. We tried to be as stealthy as we could noticing that there were a few maids in the corridor of our rooms. It didn’t help that spending almost the whole day with Selene on top of that hill filled me with nostalgia and a lot of unresolved feelings.
When we got to my room, I pushed open the door and stood in one corner waiting for Lucius to slip in beside me. I felt him inhale sharply when he took in Selene’s form nestled on my bed. Her features had smoothened into a mask of vulnerability, and innocence. I stood there transfixed, still torn between joy and sorrow.
"I was hoping you were lying but it’s truly Selene," Lucius said from where he stood beside me, his eyes gliding between me and Selene’s sleeping form "And now I see why the situation has become... complicated. Even though Noah had given his approval, it’ll be hard to explain if anyone should walk in on the two of you on the same bed together. It’s not a good sight,".
I opened my mouth to agree with him but the words suck in my throat like glass shards. From the corner of my eye, I noticed that Lucius was looking at me. "I think the best and only way to get out of this without being blamed is to inform the King," Lucius continued reasonably "I had honestly thought when you told me that Noah agreed that he would make arrangements for both of you. This seems rather...".
"Seducing?" I managed to croak out. "Yes, I had a similar assumption. I was even thinking that this might be a ploy by Noah to finally get me in his trap. We might lie side by side and tomorrow, I’ll be exposed in the council of elders for lying on the same bed as his wife. No matter how much I try to explain, the evidence would be there for everyone to see,".
"I can imagine," Lucius sighed "It’s late already, I’m not sure the King will be awake and of late things haven’t been exactly smooth between you and him. So, I think I will remain here, keep watch over the situation or maybe make some sort of video record as evidence. Hopefully with the presence of someone else in the room you can keep your emotions in check. How about that?"
My face was flaming red with embarrassment at Lucius’ suggestion but I could not argue with him too. So, I gave a reluctant nod. "That’s the only solution I guess though It’s so unpredictable as to how Noah would act if he stumbles upon us by tomorrow. Although something tells me he might show up any second now,".
"Me too!" Lucius agreed with a chuckle as his gaze flitted to where Selene lay, blissfully on the bed, oblivious to whatever was happening. A slight smirk played over his lips as he watched her. He wanted to say something but decided against it. "I don’t know how effective this method would be, spending a night would not be enough so by tomorrow, you should make adequate preparations with Noah just in case,".
"Yeah," I nodded. Lucius moved to the couch facing the bed in the room and sank into it. There was a satisfied grin on his face as our gaze met. His eyes flickered with calculations making him look vicious. The hair on the back of my neck prickled with fear as I regarded him. I knew that look from anywhere...it was the expression he usually wears whenever he had veiled intentions about a situation. Memories of us constantly quarreling about Selene... even the one we had a few minutes ago came rushing to me. I knew he harbored a lot of displeasure towards Selene and I hoped to moon that he wouldn’t do anything that will make her regret helping me.
My throat was knotted with uncertainty as fear clenched my heart again. Lucius may be volunteering to stand watch but over what precisely? I wish at this moment I could open his heart and see what he was devising. What was he cooking behind his blank expression? My pulse quickened despite my attempts at maintaining and outward composure.
Sinking down onto the edge of the bed, I resisted the overpowering urge to gather the sleeping Selene into my arms. My gaze strayed to her slightly parted lips and I felt Colton purr with desire. I shouldn’t be thinking about kissing her... especially not at this time.
I turned again to Lucius who was watching me with a satisfied smile on his lips. "Don’t worry, Xavier," he said crossing his arms "I’ll try my best to keep you in line but I cannot go beyond my capacity but I’ll do my very best,".
"Don’t do that, Lucius!" I shook my head "Nothing should make us indulge in behaviors we would both regret. That’s why I need you to do whatever it takes to stop me, especially. She will not be able...".
"Fine!" he rolled his eyes "I’ll stop you. Just lay down, it’s nearly midnight,".
I did as he told me and laid down behind Selene trying not to think too much as she shifted close to me and curled. I closed my eyes and tried not to think of anything and I had almost succeeded when I felt Selene pressing into me again. She placed her left hand on my chest and settled her head at the crook of my elbow.
All my senses awakened as I lay frozen on the bed. The lower side of my body moved with delight. As if that was not enough, she raised her leg and tangled it with one of mine so that a part of her breast was spilling on my chest and I could feel the hotness from her woman core.
I gritted my teeth, then turned my head towards Lucius who was watching us with amusement.
"Seriously!" I glared at him "You think this is funny. I could be punished,".
"It is..." he shrugged "And it goes beyond doubt that both of you are destined to be mates forever. See how perfectly her body fits into yours much more than it does with Noah,".
"I don’t want to hear your nonsense again. Just come and help me up. We’ll look for a way around it,".
