Chapter 128: Be safe until I come back...

Selene POV

Kragen supported Xavier until we got to his car.

As soon as we boarded, the girls squealed with delight and threw their tiny hands around me and Xavier’s neck "Mom, Dad, we thought you wouldn’t come forever. Kragen says the pack is under attack. How about Faustina?" Vina asked peering out of the car.

"And Brenna too," Maeve piped in.

"They’ll be fine," Kragen responded before I had a chance "I promised that I’ll go get your mommy and your daddy. Did I fulfil it or not?" his eyes twinkled with amusement as he stared at the girls.

"You did!" they squealed in unison "You truly are the best,". Then Maeve turned to me "Mummy, do you know we were nearly ab..." she turned to Kragen for help "Abducted!" Kragen furnished. "Exactly! Abducted. Me and Vina were in the room playing when someone came in and dragged us out. It was so sudden that we couldn’t ask for help. Then they threatened to kill you and Daddy if we didn’t cooperate. They were about to put us in the car when this kind man intervened. He says he’s your friend. Is it true? Didn’t know you have friends, mummy,".

I turned my gaze to Kragen who was settling Xavier at the back of the car and our eyes met. He gave me a reassuring wink before he closed the door and went over to the driver’s side. "Yes, he’s my friend," I responded "What happened to the watch I asked you girls to always wear? It’ll automatically alert me if you’re in danger,".

"I’m sorry Mom," Vina pouted and scooted closer to me laying her head on my chest "We slipped it off when we were bathing this morning. We never imagined that things would get out of hand. But as soon as we’re back to Moon Whisper, we will always wear it, we promise,".

"It’s fine, baby," I ruffled her hair and relaxed against the seat as Kragen’s car roared to life and then he eased it into the road. As we drove out of the pack house, a pick-up jeep filled with masks soldiers drove in missing us by a few inches. My heart pounded in my chest as the car stopped in front of the pack house and the men jumped out.

"Are you sure they’ll be fine?" I turned to Kragen "That’s a lot of men already. Maybe we could have stayed back to...".

"They’ll be fine, Selene!" he interrupted me gazing at me through the rearview mirror. Then he slipped into mind linking "Your mate do not have time, Selene. He’s dying. I don’t know what he got himself into but it doesn’t look good. You have to heal him before it gets out of hand," he said.

"I know!" I nodded sneaking a glance to Xavier whose eyes were tightly shut with exhaustion. His face was drained of colour and he looked so pale and fragile "Lucius told me I just need to lie next to him and he’ll be fine. So, as soon as we get to a safe place, I’ll do that. By the way, where are we going?" I asked.

"Lying beside him won’t fix anything, Selene," Kragen sighed "Why did you marry his uncle in the first place? I told you it was a bad idea and it’ll only cause conflicts but you went ahead to marry him and now you can’t heal your mate because you’re bound to your husband. You need to make love to him... that is how it has always been and should be. His body... his soul, his wolf is battered and only you can heal them,".

"I entered a pact with you to take revenge... why should I save one of the persons I want to take revenge on? Does it make sense? Besides, he’s been surviving all this while, he should go back to what he’s doing. I’m tired of talking about this same issue,".

"You need to stay alive to take revenge, Selene. Don’t you understand, that the bond you have with Xavier can only be severed if the centuries-old curse is lifted? Of course, if anything should happen to him, I know you will survive since you’re the stronger mate now and the birth of your children helped a lot but you shouldn’t let him die now. Else all your efforts will be wasted., You still need to fulfil my wish, so until that, you need to stay as alive as possible,".

"Still Kragen!" I turned to look at the girls who were staring at us curiously. Thankfully, they couldn’t hear the conversation going on between me and Kragen "I cannot cheat on Noah. He’d be devasted when he finds out and we still need him in the grand scheme of things. If he knows I cheated on him with his nephew...".

"The same Noah who will fuck his ex – Brooke!" Kragen rolled his eyes in exasperation "Do you love him, Selene? Don’t tell me you’ve fallen for him because you’re hesitating too much. You’re beginning to make decisions that are not favourable to you. Noah doesn’t love you as much as he thinks he does..."

"Don’t say that, Kragen!" My heart sank "He loves me!"

"Oh, Moon!" Kragen sighed "You’ve developed feelings for him, Selene. You like him,"

"Of course, I like him!" I defended manically "But not feelings. We’ve had sex and it’s normal to have some attachment to him but that doesn’t count as love and my heart is still fixed as it was from the beginning. I very much want to carry out my revenge. So...".

"Fuck!" Kragen murmured "Noah likes you. You’re smart, intelligent, a good woman and a good mother. Those are the things every male wolf fucking wants. To him, you’re a good wife and it’s easy to think you love a woman with these qualities but he cannot love you as much as Xavier would. You see that man sitting right in the vehicle with you... loved you for all three years you were missing. Even when he was...".

"I don’t want to hear it!" I cut him short "The bottom line is I won’t cheat on Noah. Even if he’ll cheat on me in the long run, I’d rather wait for him to do that but that doesn’t mean I’ll also cheat. I have some sense of duty and that is not the kind of woman I want to be. I want to be someone I can be proud of. I have a daughter growing into a woman, I don’t want to mess up their thinking... cheating is cheating... there is no excuse for it. Xavier cheated on me, Noah will cheat on me... and I’ll see to it that they’re punished,".

"Whatever you want to do, just save Xavier, he doesn’t have a lot of chances,".

"You’re a powerful god... you should try to heal him if you love him that much," I retorted and ended the mind link.

The girls had come closer to their father and laid their heads on him, circling his frame with their tiny hands "Mummy, will daddy be fine?" Maeve asked me.

"Yes, honey!" I nodded taking a deep breath. Eventually, I might have to cower into helping him somehow but not sharing his bed with him. I sighed and looked out the window wondering where Kragen was taking us.

When I first met him, he didn’t look like the king of the underworld. He looked like a lowly Omega roaming the bushes, it was after we became closer because of the pact of course that I discovered that he took on the likeness of random people he had met to come to his human form.

He loved earth... it was his dream to live as a werewolf and have a family maybe while still doing his work but due to his original nature as the king of the underworld which made him hideous, Kragen needed to take up a more pleasant human appearance and the only way he could do that is by the hands of a powerful moon priestess with the fate of the dark moon.

Not just that, I had children who were born under the blood moon, and as a mother, I had deposits of them in me. Although I was yet to gain my full potential as a moon priestess, Kragen since our pact has helped me in every way possible. All the tales about the king of the underworld being hard-hearted were all lies. I could argue that he may be doing it because of what he’d stand to gain but if we were going by that, Kragen has done more than enough for me.

"We’re here!" he announced.

We were in a big compound with a modest building and it looked empty. He came around and opened the door for me then reached for Xavier whose eyelids fluttered open for a second before they closed. Together, we started towards the house. It was empty which wasn’t shocking to me.

Kragen showed us to our rooms and for the next one hour, I ran around trying to fix something for the girls to eat. Thankfully, there was food in the kitchen so it didn’t take a lot of time. By the time I finished, I was tired. After serving them, I came out of the house to take a breather when Kragen came to stand beside me.

We were quiet for a while before he broke the silence "I’ll go back and brink Faustina and Brenna to come help you at least. There’s no telling how long we’ll be here so you’ll need a lot of help. Also, I’ll stop by the forest to get some herbs for Xavier. It won’t be much but it’ll keep him for a few days, at least until you make up your mind,".

I nodded "Thank you Kragen. Sometimes, I try to remind myself that we’re not friends even though you fit the description perfectly. I’m truly grateful to you,".

He patted my shoulders and started towards the car. I watched as he turned on the ignition and then leaned out to address me. "Don’t worry, you’ll be safe until I come back,".
