Chapter 120: That woman, was Brooke!

Selene POV

"To convince them to officially recognize the office of the Luna?" I tried not to let my anger get the best of me "It is me who will be working with my Beta and if I am not comfortable with her, it’ll be chaotic. Brooke is good but I don’t want her to be my Beta. You can’t make decisions like this on my behalf without consulting me first,".

"I can," he said levelly gazing at me with disdain "Between me and you, I have the right to make decisions for whosoever is under my jurisdiction and you’re not just my Luna, you’re also my wife and my mate, you should submit to me and trust my judgement to make good decisions for you,".

My jaw dropped wide as I stared at Noah. Was this even happening? Is this the man I admired? The one who talked about how he loved to include women in anything and everything he did. The person in front of me wasn’t the man I had admired and hoped that if I married him, maybe... just maybe, I would be able to fall totally in love with him.

"Every minute we waste here, Xavier is closer to being dead," Kurtis came to stand between us, cutting off the hostility simmering in the air. "Please, your Majesty," he lowered his voice "I know it’s unfair and the worst thing anyone could think of and I understand that but please... let her help him. Not only is she your sister’s...".

"She can do whatever pleases her," Noah cut him off with a shrug "She’s an adult and I trust she can make good decisions by herself. If she wants to save her ex at the detriment of her marriage she can go ahead and do it I don’t care if Xavier is my son but I think at this point, I couldn’t care less about what happens to him. I’m sorry it sounds cold and unlike me per se but believe me, at this point, you all can do whatever pleases you and work for you. I’m off,".

With that, he turned on his feet and started in the direction he had just come from Brooke and Reid in his wake. My heart was heavy with annoyance as I stared at him leave. My marriage was over. Whatever hopes that I had that I could hold it together for a while crumbled. I could see it in his eyes... in the way he looked at me.

"Selene!" Kurtis’s voice shook me out of my reverie "We have to go," he said

"Okay!" I nodded "But there’s no one to watch the girls, I have to come with them. Is it alright with you?" I asked.

"Of course not, let’s hurry,".

We rushed back to the girls’ room. They were so engrossed in their colouring that it took an additional explanation to them before they agreed to come with me and Kurtis. Together, we set out of the pack house towards his bunker in the woods. It wasn’t 6 pm yet but the skies were already darkening and we had some difficulty locating our destination.

When we arrived at the bunker, the girls were fascinated by how unique it was and were talking about it excitedly, coupled with toys, Kurtis gave them to play with before he returned to me to where I was in one corner.

"First, I’ll need you to try to mind link him and see if it’ll work. If you get him, I need you to ask him where he is and also reach for the side of his left boot and tap at the sole, to activate the GPS in it to help us locate him,". Kurtis instructed.

"I hope it works," I told him taking a deep breath, I am old and rusty from things like this but I’ll try my best. You should also keep the girl as entertained as possible," I gestured towards them. They were already losing interest in the toys Kurtis had given them and were looking in our direction. If they knew that something had happened to their father... especially Maeve, all hell would let loose.

Kurtis nodded and crossed the room to them. I took another deep inhale and exhaled before I closed my eyes and tried to focus on my wolf. Immediately, Bea came alive. Because of how things have been these days, there was almost no reason for me to communicate with her. I waited for her to wake fully before I started asking.

"Do you think you can locate Colton (Xavier’s wolf)? We need to find Xavier as soon as possible," I told her.

She agreed, and I tried to concentrate on what I thought was his scent, squeezing my eyes shut, and trying to locate him. I opened our mind link, feeling strange as I did it. I was married to Xavier for seven years and in those seven years, we never for once used our mind link. All our conversations were done face-to-face and there we weren’t cozy couples. So, I strained hard, calling out to him, hoping he would respond but after nearly an hour of trying, there was nothing.

I was getting irritated by Kurtis still asking me to try, telling me to pick up anything...even if it was his emotions but nothing was working. Kurtis began to get frantic. He was moving around the room, touching a bunch of buttons and barking out orders. I could feel the panic in his movements as he ordered his men around and it made me wonder if it was how much he liked Xavier or was it because he was worried that if anything happened to him, it would upset his plans.

As I was still lost in thoughts and Kurtis still hovering around the bunker, Lucius’s voice came on through one of the mini communication devices on the table next to me.

"I don’t know if anyone can hear me but this is Lucius and I’ve found Xavier and the other men. I don’t have all the details but I saw them washed ashore. Thankfully, they’re all alive and I’ve performed first aid on them but they’re still unconscious. I think we’re at the bank of the river on the west side of Moon Whisper. So, please come as fast as you can. Don’t bother communicating with me because my mouthpiece has broken and I had to fix this luckily enough, it picked up but I can’t hear anything. We’ll be waiting for you, please hurry,".

While Lucius was still talking, Kurtis’s hand was flying on the keyboard connected to the monitor in front of him while barking out orders to his men. I just stood there listening until the girls came to me.

"Did something happen to Daddy?" Vina asked gazing at what Kurtis was doing with confusion on her brows. Besides her, Maeve had her gaze pinned on me and I knew if I as much as say the wrong word, that all hell will let loose. Her anger was on a timer now.

Before I could open my mouth to respond, Kurtis butted in "Girls, you should go with your mum to your room now, okay? Soon, your daddy will be here and will explain to you better,".

Maeve wanted to argue but the pointed look coming from Kurtis made her swallow her words. I rounded the girls up and we left the bunker back to Pack House. Outside, it was pitch black. We struggled to locate the pack house and finally did. As soon as we entered, I took them straight to their bedrooms and asked them if they wanted a late-night snack or something to drink but they both declined and insisted they wanted to go back to their games.

While they were at their games, I decided to send a message to Noah. I told him that we’d located Xavier and it wasn’t through me rather Lucuis and I wasback. After typing out the message, I sent it to him and almost immediately he read it and five minutes later he was yet to respond.

I sent him several messages after that asking if he was there but he’ll read the messages and not reply. At this point, I was already getting agitated and I knew the only way I would snap out of it was if I met him and asked him why he was ignoring me. Since the girls were too busy with their coloring, I slipped out of their room, locked their door and started towards Noah.

Since the pack house was almost empty, it was not hard for me to navigate through the hallway. As soon as I got to his room, I knocked and immediately turned the handle to let myself in, only to discover that his door was looked.

That was strange! Noah never locks his door. I decided to knock but there was no response a few minutes later and I tried calling him but he wasn’t picking up my calls. Just as I wanted to leave, I sighted him walking down the hallway carrying a food basket.

As soon as he saw me, his eyes scanned the length of my body, until they rested on my face, from the way his jaw was set, I knew he didn’t want me there at that moment. Deciding to ignore his attitude, I put on a bright smile and rushed to him.

"Seems you went out. I was trying to let myself in but the door looked locked," I said "Anyways, thank goddess you’re here. I wanted to tell you that we have found Xavier and it was not my doing and...".

"I read your text," he said coldly.

"Oh!" I chuckled "Thank goddess! It seems you were busy and weren’t available to reply the texts right? And what have you got there?" my eyes flitted to the basket he was holding.

"Is that all, Selene?" he asked staring pointedly at me "If you’re done with what you wanted to tell me, it’s best you leave. I have a lot of things to do tonight,".

"C’mon, Noah. I’m sorry, you know I’d never betray you no matter what and..." the door to his room creaked open and a woman peeked out of it clad only in nothing but bath towel that stopped halfway around her body.

That woman was Brooke!
