"Not just that," Kurtis added "His mixed blood is a threat to us. He could charm his way through our hearts and take our packs away from us through his powers as a siren. Also, as a wolf, he may attack us with physical force, soldiers and weapons," Kurtis’s eyes burned with renewed determination despite his weakened state "We must prepare ourselves on two fronts that’s the only way to avoid history repeating itself,".

Xavier’s brows scrunched up in confusion. "What do you mean to prepare ourselves to avoid history repeating? Has this happened before? Don’t tell me this is another one of those dark tales and I thought these things do not matter anymore. Isn’t it the whole essence of denouncing the doctrine of the moon goddess? Why are we still going back and front on things like this, Kurtis? Why are you allowing yourself to believe that those old wives’ tales still work? You think I don’t know what today is too? But do you see me going around with three pinches of Evening Primrose and Saffron tried around my ankle,".

"Technically, you don’t need that, Xavier," Kurtis said with a tired sigh "And please let’s not argue about this. There are a lot of natural phenomena that have been occurring for centuries now. Do you think it’ll be easy to break out of the cycle by denouncing the moon goddess alone? C’mon, stop acting like you don’t know these things and you don’t need to tie anything around your ankle because you were born today, so nothing would pretty much affect you, unlike us," Kurtis paused to raise his trousers up to show his ankles.

"Stop acting like a child, Xavier. The full dark moon is not something to joke with. It happens once in every century and you should know that you weren’t during the full dark moon so maybe you should try to protect yourself. Besides, this phase brings different kinds of dark omens. Every time it happens, someone seeks to topple an existing power structure that has ruled for ages which inevitably leads to bloodshed and tragedy. You cannot imagine how traumatizing it can be. I don’t wish it for anyone,".

"So!" Xavier scoffed "Conrad is simply playing his role or is he taking advantage of this knowledge to try to seize control for himself?"

"That I don’t know," Kurtis sighed wearily "For now, we must find a way to make sure that meeting that he was insisting on holding doesn’t happen and we should find a way to protect our minds too so he doesn’t use it as an avenue to poison our hearts. You cannot imagine how enthralling the powers of a siren are and to think that everything peaks under the Full dark moon. Honestly, this is a smart move from him, I must say,".

"Okay!" Xavier nodded "So, how about we perform rituals? You know protective spells and wards to help keep the people from being hypnotized by him just like Reid. By the way, I saw him a moment ago and he’s been following Conrad like a dog since he arrived. Is there nothing we can do about his situation? He’s going to be so embarrassed when the scales fall off his eyes,".

"We should worry less about Reid," Noah said thoughtfully. "I think the only reason why his plans are not progressive is because Reid doesn’t know a lot. Assuming it had worked on any of us, it would have been a problem. We know too much, so we must protect our minds. Alpha Jared told me that the best way to protect yourself from falling under his hypnosis is to avoid direct eye contact for a long and to crisscross your third finger with your index finger. "That is a temporary solution," Kurtis nodded before turning to Xavier "But I am afraid that no ritual can overcome the forces that will be at play as soon as the dark moon appears. Remember today is like an unrecorded day. The universe doesn’t have control over anything that happens today, so we cannot ask for help. But I think since you and Selene," his gaze shifted to me meaningfully "Were born at this period although not the full moon but at one of the days of the dark moon, you may be of crucial help tonight. My gaze met with Kurtis’s pointed look and I nodded with understanding. There was more to it. Maybe, it could also be the reason why I had that dream last night and since the girls have clairvoyance, they also caught something. I decided I was going to wait until after the discussion to talk to Kurtis and Xavier about what I saw.

"By the way your majesty," Kurtis turned back to Noah "Did you meet with Conrad today? Ah, Yes! You mentioned you met him a while ago. May I ask what both of you talked about? I just want to know if it was the conversation that triggered the return of those ships,".

"Yeah," Noah nodded "He came to tell me that he wants to hold a meet that would involve everyone. The kings and even the Alphas but I refused his request. I practically threw him from my presence,".

"No wonder!" Kurtis chuckled "One thing I know is we could use his irrationality as a tool against him. That’s his weakness. He makes careful plans but I don’t think he has a lot of control over his emotions. So, we have just one plan and that is to ensure that no meeting of any sort takes place. I don’t know if it’s to round up all the kings and have them locked up somewhere. I don’t care if we take dire actions but we must make sure he doesn’t get to them at all,".

"Have you forgotten that a lot of people would be indoors today? Since the pack moon priestess declared that it would happen anytime this week. Once it’s evening, you won’t see anyone on the streets or out in the open. We could use that to our advantage too," I pointed out.

"How?" the men chorused turning to look at me.

"We should send word to everyone – the Lycan Kings I mean that they should close their door to all visitors. No one should meet with anyone nor should they give them an audience. Everyone is to remain indoors until it passes. How about that?"

"Works fine" Kurtis nodded in agreement. "I already have my men on it. And we know that the Full dark moon plunges everything into chaos and uncertainty. All we can do is prepare, remain vigilant and have faith that the light will eventually come and that this will not be as bad as it used to be,".

I took a deep breath, trying to still the way my heart was pounding. There was a solution but I doubt if Noah and Xavier would approve of it. It involved using the girls and me. We could turn the tide during the peak of the dark moon but the only problem is, since we would be drawing energy from it, we’ll definitely lose consciousness from this world and hence would need someone that would have our backs at that period to make sure that we’re not interrupted and we also do not lose our lives in the process.

"I’ll go and round up the guards to make sure everyone stays home tonight also regarding those ships you told me about, should we do anything about it?" Xavier asked.

"Not yet!" he said "We have to wait for them to strike before we do anything. Thankfully, everything is in place and I’ve given orders that they should fight as soon as they sense any form of hostility from the other party. So, it won’t be a problem,".

"Alright!" Xavier nodded "I’ll leave first. I have a lot of things to look into and..." his gaze trailed to me "Kurtis said you wanted to see me?"

From the corner of my eyes, I noticed Noah eyeing us curiously. Shifting uncomfortably, I nodded "Yeah but since you’re going to do something, you could just find me later and I’ll tell you. It’s regarding the girls by the way," I added hastily. "I want your opinion on something,".

"Alright," he agreed "I’ll find you later,". With that, he turned on his heels and left the room.

Then it was just me, Noah and Kurtis and Noah was making zero attempts to leave next. I needed to be alone with Kurtis and tell him everything.

"I’m glad I have both of you here together," Noah broke the silence as his gaze moved from me to Kurtis and back "I was told that you, Selene cradled Kurtis intimately in your arms yesterday. Care to explain that to me?"

"Explain what?" it was my turn to be surprised "And by intimately are you referring to just holding him to make sure we didn’t lose him? Wait!" I huffed noting the way his brows were arched "You are not aware of what happened here yesterday right? For your information, Kurtis was poisoned and was near death. I cradled him to give him medicine yesterday and it was not just me in the room. The pack doctor and nurses with Xavier were here too. Do you think I would have behaved myself badly in front of those people?"

"Your majesty," Kurtis exhaled "I have no designs on your mate. There’s enough problem going on between you and your nephew and I’m not interested in being in a love triangle. It was because of her that I was able to survive. After all of this, we would deal with the fact that someone tried to poison me,".

"Maybe you should stop listening to your ex. I still don’t know why she’s hovering around you," I said bitterly.

"You don’t see me complaining about Xavier hovering around you too," Noah retorted "I only wanted to clear things up, I didn’t accuse you but since you’re going about it guiltily, maybe there’s something you might be hiding,".

"I don’t have time for this," I hissed and turned to Kurtis "I’ll come later to find you, okay,".

Without any word to Noah, I turned and left the office.
