Chapter 353: Chapter 348: The Gladiatorial Arena’s Protagonist
Leon was contemplating how to leverage the recent events to his advantage.
He didn’t want to stir up trouble, but when people were bullying him, he had to make a statement... An Ancient Black Dragon, Witch Demon, or Sphinx appearing alone wouldn’t pressure him, but if they all showed up together, even he would have to avoid the confrontation for now.
Leon quickly drew a conclusion; he couldn’t take on Crossroads City by himself, but just dealing with the Nightfall Guild seemed more feasible... Although it’s not that simple, the true Nightfall Guild is hidden in the shadows, and only the core members know where it is. He had just used Hand Palm Bomb to obliterate a Vampire he suspected was a core member.
"So much time has passed, and not a single Guild Leader has appeared?" Leon looked at the sky; even Dragon Riders had not shown up.
"A Guild Leader doesn’t appear casually." Tassera smiled, "Not everyone likes to wander around like you, hovering over Watchtower Port’s sky."
"How do I meet them then?" Leon asked curiously.
"Even if you ask me, I don’t know." Tassera tilted her head slightly, looking at Leon. "You killed a Vampire; the Nightfall Guild won’t let it go easily. At the very least, that Vampire’s superior won’t let it go. Be patient and wait quietly for a few days."
Leon sighed and said, "Seems like that’s the only way. Take it one step at a time."
"So what should we do now, continue strolling or head back?" Leon asked.
Tassera glanced at the sky; it was already afternoon, approaching evening, and getting darker. That Vampire wouldn’t have dared to casually appear otherwise. She said, "It’s getting late, let’s head back for now... Do you want to watch a performance? It’s around that time. If you want to see a show, we can go to the Flower Garden area."
"What kind of performance?"
"Concert, stage play."
"No interest at all." Leon shook his head, "Is there anything going on at the Gladiatorial Arena now?"
"Certainly not today, maybe tomorrow." Tassera replied.
"Then let’s head back first." Leon said, "We’ll go to the Gladiatorial Arena to watch a show tomorrow."
Leon and Tassera quickly returned, and no one stopped them along the way. Smooth sailing, they didn’t forget to recount the day’s events to Betty.
"How dare you provoke the Nightfall Guild?" Betty jumped up after hearing them out.
"It’s not that I wanted to provoke the Nightfall Guild, they came to bother me." Leon said indifferently, "And what if I did provoke the Nightfall Guild? Is the Nightfall Guild that strong?"
"Those who provoke the Nightfall Guild usually end up dead mysteriously." Betty said.
"That’s because they haven’t encountered me." thought Leon, "Strategically despising the enemy, tactically respecting the enemy, knowing yourself and the enemy: a hundred battles, a hundred victories," Leon said, "Do you know who the Guild Leader of the Nightfall Guild is?"
"Don’t know, nobody knows." Betty shook her head like a rattle.
"Anyway, I need to pack quickly... You said as long as it’s not very large objects, even things as big as the Mage Tower you can help me take, you weren’t lying, right?" Betty asked.
"Why should I deceive you?" With Leon growing stronger and stronger, his Sleeve of the Universe was expanding, capable of holding more and more items.
"I’ll try to finish in three days." Betty bounced around, "Leave this place of troubles early."
A night passed without incident.
After a restful night’s sleep, Leon and Tassera decided to go to the Gladiatorial Arena to watch the show.
It is said that the arena is built on the outskirts of Crossroads City, at the bottom of valleys between several hills, covering at least tens of thousands of square meters; even in this world, it’s considered a marvel. Marvels bring about the country’s ruin.
Walking there would be too slow, flying in Dragon Form is too conspicuous, so Leon and Tassera decided to take a carriage.
"So many people." Leon sat inside the carriage, looking outside through the window.
"The Beast Fighting Arena stages small performances every three days, large performances every week, and grand performances once a month." interrupted the coachman, "You’re really lucky; today happens to be the day of the monthly grand performance."
"Is that why there are so many people?" Leon queried without suspicion.
"Yes." the coachman replied, "Besides the locals of Crossroads City, many outsiders also rush to see the show on this day, often including dignitaries from the Empire and the Talia Alliance."
Leon nodded, "What distinguishes small performances, large performances, and grand performances?"
"Small performances feature nothing more than lions, tigers, Owlbears, and Griffins, occasionally including Manticores or Chimeras." the coachman paused, "For large performances, Mammoths, One-eyed Giants, and Dragon Riders might appear, even Hydras and Giant Evil Snowmen show up sometimes."
"I remember," Tassera propping her cheek, "I recall Betty once saying she guest summoned a Demon, a Fierce Battle Demon."
"Not a Balor?" Leon chuckled, certain Betty lacked the ability to summon a Balor, an ancient and terrifying embodiment of evil, commanding the demon army as a Secondary Demon Lord, "What’s the most powerful Demon she can summon?"
"I don’t know." Tassera thought, "An Enchanting Demon should be her limit... Enchanting Demons are different from Fierce Battle Demons; they’re just too dangerous."
Leon didn’t comment, turning his attention to the coachman’s back, asking, "What do grand performances feature?"
"Efreeti, Beholder, Purple Worm." the coachman replied, "Sometimes even Dragons."
"Dragons as well?" Leon was surprised.
"Otherwise, how could it be called a grand performance." the coachman continued, "Today’s show reportedly includes Dragons."
"What kind of Dragons?" Leon asked.
"That I do not know." the coachman shook his head, "I’m just a humble coachman."
"How did you convince Dragons to participate in performances?" Leon mused, "It must be money. With enough money, Dragons would do anything."
"Are we there yet?" Tassera suddenly asked.
"We’re just about there." the coachman answered.
"Did you notice anything off?" Tassera suddenly used Communication Skill.
"Ignore them." Leon shook his hand.
The carriage suddenly stopped.
"Sir, Miss, please alight." the coachman gestured ahead, "Walk straight ahead to reach."
Leon paid the fare, even tipping.
Tassera linked arms with Leon walking down the passage, discovering two people standing in the Gladiatorial Arena’s plaza.
In the plaza, not in the stands.
Drumming started, deep and resonant, echoing within the enormous circular Gladiatorial Arena.
The stands were crowded with people, cheers like waves, as if the earth was trembling.
Leon scratched his head: "That coachman said there’s a Dragon appearance in today’s show, turns out it’s us."
