Chapter 250: Chapter 248: A Great, Great Harvest
After a Vampire’s death, the Vampires it has created do not perish along with it. Even the Derivatives it created won’t die. On the contrary, they at last gain their freedom.
When Envis died, the White Night Guards he created did not die with him. Aside from two particularly loyal Vampires who tried avenging him by harassing Leon—only to be obliterated to ash by Leon’s Hand Palm Bomb—the rest scattered and fled. Leon didn’t bother chasing them down one by one; it was simply too much hassle.
Envis left behind quite a haul of spoils. His weapons and shield were guaranteed to be rare-tier, if not legendary-tier. Beyond that, his cloak, gloves, boots, and rings were all Magic Items. Unfortunately, all his Potions and scrolls were destroyed in the battle.
Unless one doesn’t care about loot, the Samadhi True Fire should be used sparingly. Though not as lethal as the Samadhi True Fire, the Hand Palm Bomb still packs a decent amount of power.
A quick sweep of the spoils—there’s nothing more important than looting corpses.
Leon could never forget Castanin and Haken as he soared forward, reserving his Mana instead of casting Spells, flapping his wings with a powerful charge. He landed directly in front of the two, grabbed Castanin without a word, and slammed him into the ground, smashing the Undead Admiral into a pulp of gore.
"I surrender! I surrender!" Haken had long since fallen to his knees, now raising his hands in defeat.
Envis had been a formidable foe—not only agile and resilient but also a high-level Spellcaster who had mastered immensely powerful Spells like Time Stop. Even the Storage Dragon Tassera seemed like a mere rookie in comparison to him.
If not for the Hand Palm Bomb, which excelled at targeting Undead Creatures, he would have been very difficult to defeat. A war of attrition would have likely been futile. Of course, if things became truly dire, Leon could always ensure his escape with ease.
Having conquered such a formidable enemy, Leon was in high spirits. Castanin had dared to insult and provoke him and was, therefore, marked for death. As for the others, their survival was negotiable. That’s why Leon didn’t immediately attack Haken. Instead, he said, "Surrender is fine, but first, you must prove your worth."
Leon might be a bad guy, but that didn’t stop him from wanting good people as friends—or useful underlings. In this case, Haken had attacked him first, retreated upon realizing he was losing, and had apparently failed to check his ego altogether—his mind worked a little too quickly.
Haken opened his mouth, unsure where to begin, stammering, "I... I can pledge my loyalty to Lord Leon and plunder treasure for him."
"Captain, don’t spare him! He was the first to attack you. He’s not the big, simple-minded fool he looks like—he can’t be trusted," came a voice. Leon’s newly appointed first mate, Andrea, stepped forward. Having betrayed Moon Bay to bring Leon this far, Andrea was now staunchly on Leon’s side.
"Andrea!" Haken growled as he glared at the first mate, suddenly drawing an axe.
In front of Leon, Andrea acted timid and subservient, completely unlike a ruthless pirate captain. But when faced with Haken, he didn’t back down in the slightest. With deft ease, Andrea sidestepped Haken’s attack and reached for his belt. Out came a pistol—at seven meters, both its speed and accuracy were deadly.
Haken and Andrea began to clash.
The former had initiated the attack, kicking off a chaotic melee. The latter had guided Leon from the Flash Sea to Moon Bay and had spent three days calling him "Captain." There was no question whose side Leon would take—he immediately helped Andrea by twisting off Haken’s head.
"I know exactly what you’re up to..." Leon said after dealing with Haken. Letting his hands fall to his sides, he stared at Andrea, confirming his suspicions that the first mate was removing rivals to solidify his own position. "You’ve been quite obedient these past few days, and I’m pleased. Bringing me to Moon Bay earns you some credit, so I won’t take your life today."
"Now, listen to my orders." With Envis dead, there was no one left in Moon Bay who could stop Leon. "Take some men and strip all the sails off the ships at the dock. Whatever you do, I don’t want to see a single ship leaving without my command."
"Understood," Andrea said with a respectful salute. "Captain."
Andrea departed.
Leon glanced around. The docks were now devoid of life. He mused to himself that Moon Bay was far from Volcanic Island and provided little in the way of territorial value. Since it wouldn’t be ruled like Watchtower Port, there was nothing left to do except pillage. His first target was the nearest warehouse.
Leon raised his fist and smashed it through the warehouse roof. He ripped it apart with a single sweep, craning his neck to peek inside as his hands rummaged through the contents.
He expected to find treasures but instead found only food and wine. Upon reflection, it made sense—anything of value would have been dealt with long ago. Even if it hadn’t, it wouldn’t be left carelessly in a warehouse.
Abandoning the warehouse, Leon headed toward the town itself.
Screams echoed everywhere—from panicking pirates and their families alike.
Leon could stop one person from fleeing, but he couldn’t stop an entire crowd—unless, of course, he went around reciting the Soul Summoning Mantra. But he had no intention of exterminating all the pirates; some needed to remain alive. After all, without darkness, how could there be light? Without the threat of pirates, who would seek his protection in the Flash Sea?
He ignored those running empty-handed but made no secret of swiping at anyone carrying bags full of valuables. Still, it was inconvenient using claws after getting used to wielding a sword. When this was over, he’d be pressing the Elves to promptly restore the Catastrophe Blade to its finest form.
"Damn Red Dragon."
"Come get me, you bastard!"
Leon hadn’t expected to encounter resistance in town after killing so many people—including Envis—at the docks. But if they wanted to pick a fight, Leon would gladly oblige.
Ripping off roofs house by house and rummaging for treasure was tedious work. After all that effort, he barely managed to find ten Gold Coins. Silver coins and copper coins weren’t even worth using the Object Capture Skill on. It struck him belatedly: He should be focusing on houses that looked more promising.
Leon had no interest in becoming a Pirate King, but he did plan to gather a few pirates under his wing. At the very least, he needed manpower to help him loot and plunder. Why hadn’t anyone defected to him yet? Was it because his behavior at the docks had been too ruthless?
"You. Come here."
"I have a new task for you."
Leon found Andrea and ordered him to recruit some pirates to help loot Moon Bay. He couldn’t do it all by himself, and he also needed someone to lead him to the residences of the major pirates—especially Envis’s castle, rumored to be hidden just outside the city.
"Damn it!"
"Running off so quickly, huh?"
With a guide, Leon easily located the grand homes of the major pirates. By the time he arrived, though, most of them were emptied out.
Many of the major pirates had fled amidst the chaos, hiding in remote corners of the wilderness. Being seasoned sailors, they didn’t even need ships to escape—they could swim or dive. Tracking them down would be near impossible and a massive headache. The good news was they hadn’t been able to take all their wealth with them; there was still plenty left to seize.
Envis’s castle contained some of his remaining followers—Vampires who had retreated to it, as well as a Necromancer who had long worked for him. The Meat Body Demon Statue within was a hulking muscular humanoid stitched together from various humanoid body parts, possessing the rudimentary intelligence of a child.
With Envis dead, what kind of waves could his followers possibly stir?
The smarter ones took a bit of loot and fled immediately, leaving Leon with no choice but to let them go. The greedy fools who stayed behind to plunder more were easily caught—and killed—by Leon.
The homes of the major pirates contained mostly riches but no Magic Items of note. While Envis’s castle held a decent number of Magic Items, most were geared toward humanoids, leaving little that Leon found truly noteworthy.
The Flying Broom, for instance, appeared to be an ordinary wooden broom. If you sat on it and spoke the command word, it would hover beneath you, allowing you to fly. It could also fly autonomously to a familiar location if commanded. For someone like Leon who could already fly, it served no practical purpose—but it was fun, and that was enough. For a gamer like him, unless an item enhanced his equipment or abilities, it was less useful than a novelty toy.
Bilaro’s Iron Chain, an old, rusted metal ball, transformed mid-air into an iron net when thrown after speaking its command word. It was essentially a toy but might prove useful in certain situations.
Moon Bay wasn’t large. The nearest land was several hundred kilometers away, deterring most but pirates from visiting. Yet, it wasn’t exactly small either—its reputation as a notable Pirate City couldn’t be denied.
Over the course of looting Moon Bay, Leon accumulated nearly 400,000 Gold Coins, not to mention agate, pearls, and gemstones, none of which had yet been appraised. Magic Items hadn’t been tallied either, and three large ships were packed with ivory, rhino horn, and furs.
This was despite many major pirates escaping with their wealth. Some had hidden their loot on remote islands, while others stashed it in banks under fake names in cities within the Talia Alliance. Naturally, there would always be some fish that slipped through the net—otherwise, the haul would have been even greater.
Even so, the sheer volume left Leon staggered. It was more wealth than he had ever seen in his life, forcing him to confront the stark disparity between his previous circumstances and this newfound fortune.
Yes, back in his small hometown, tens of thousands of Gold Coins could buy a house. But in a metropolis, that same sum wouldn’t even buy a bathroom—just perhaps a single tile to stand on.
Pouring all this wealth into Volcanic Island might just transform it from a promising outpost into a true Heavenly Realm. But this realization sobered Leon. The revolution wasn’t over—the real work had only just begun.
Gold and jewels were ultimately external possessions. Only true power mattered. And the rewards from his Golden Finger were the real prize.
"Conquer and plunder—loot, loot, loot, loot, loot! Pillaging an entire city."
"High-level reward: Three Heads and Six Arms."
