Tale of the Red Dragon Without Dragon’s Might -
Chapter 131: One Dies, One Escapes
Chapter 131: Chapter 131: One Dies, One Escapes
Red Dragon actually dodged the arrow, but Zaren didn’t pay much attention. Direct attacks are easy to dodge; it’s the hidden ones that are hard to guard against, and he was a master at those.
Leon naturally wouldn’t let Hunting Demon comfortably draw his bow. Offense is the best defense, he thought, and turned to pounce towards Hunting Demon. Considering the hall was filled with huge iron columns which could interfere with swinging a sword, he didn’t draw out Catastrophe Blade from the small space of Sleeve of the Universe.
Seeing the Red Dragon lunging at him, a roar rang beside his ear, far from panicking—he had fought through bloody battles, what could be more terrifying than that—he smiled slightly and, holding the Brass Crossbow, sprinted behind a column.
If one didn’t see it, it would be hard to imagine such a big and strong, almost overweight devil was not a warrior but an agile Ranger.
Anyways, Sogran remembered the first time he saw Zaren assassinate a disobedient Fire Giant; he rubbed his eyes several times and still couldn’t believe it.
A hint of a smile appeared on Sogran’s lips.
He seemed to already see Hunting Demon playfully tormenting the Red Dragon, maneuvering behind one column after another, using the Brass Crossbow to shoot the Red Dragon full of holes like a hornet’s nest, and finally a dagger piercing through the Red Dragon’s throat, only to see the Red Dragon ferociously pouncing towards Hunting Demon, who then agilely turned after a sprinting shift rather than crashing into the wall unable to stop.
What are you playing at?
One would think you’re a giant winged cat catching mice if they didn’t know you were the Red Dragon.
Devils do not have lifespans; they do not die a natural death. Zaren couldn’t remember how long he had lived but had participated in many blood battles. Mostly, though, he was tracking and hunting for the Devil Duke, his superior, following, searching, and then killing or capturing.
Naturally, he had seen Red Dragons before, even many times. Nine Prisons weren’t short of Red Dragons, but it was the first time he saw such an agile Red Dragon. Maybe even the Mercury Dragon isn’t that agile.
Even so, Zaren was not panicked but very excited because no Hunting Demon doesn’t enjoy a deadly opponent worthy of combat.
Zaren watched as the Red Dragon approached closer, took a Hand Palm Bomb from his waistband, and lightly tossed it, accompanied by a loud explosion and billowing thick smoke.
Leon’s size was too large; no matter how agile, it was hard to evade the explosion, but it wasn’t easy for the explosion to hurt him either. However, the thick smoke definitely obstructed his vision, and by the time he emerged from the smoke, he could no longer find Hunting Demon.
Leon turned around on the spot, searching for Hunting Demon, only to see Hunting Demon invisibly standing on a piece of Iron Felt used for forging.
Zaren found Red Dragon staring at him, now sure that Red Dragon possesses True Vision, just like he could see invisibility. He decisively pulled the trigger, launching an arrow tied with a large net.
You’re so agile? Then try dodging this net.
If accidentally netted, escaping wouldn’t be easy, and Leon would inevitably suffer a few arrows. Several countermeasures flashed through Leon’s mind, one was Gathering Form and Scattering Energy, which he had just used and couldn’t use again momentarily, and another was Object Capture Skill combined with Sleeve of the Universe to simply collect that net, but perhaps it was too late, he decisively turned around and swept the net away with his tail.
The net was swept away, but he couldn’t dodge the arrow, though fortunately, the damage wasn’t significant, which didn’t prevent Leon from keeping his composure. He sneered, "Is that all?"
"Arrogant Red Dragon, you might try lifting your tail a bit," Zaren said while rewinding his Brass Crossbow, which was as big as a person, almost a small Crossbow Cannon.
Leon, hearing this, tried lifting his tail, only to find the net was sticky, sticking his tail to the floor.
"Try dodging now," Zaren lifted his Brass Crossbow. His crossbow bolts were pulsating with electric arcs, hitting someone would not only cause Lightning damage but also a paralyzing effect.
Hunting Demon was just about to pull the trigger, not yet managed, when he saw Red Dragon lifting a hand, and his body stiffened.
Immobilization spell?
Red Dragon used Immobilization Spell!?
Zaren struggled free from stiffness, realizing Red Dragon had stood up, its head nearly reaching the ceiling, raising a pair of forelimbs, opening five fingers, electricity gathering in the palm... His body moved instinctively, subconsciously telling him he must dodge immediately.
Zaren jumped off the Iron Felt, catching a glimpse_bulk of a silver flash from the corner of his eye, then felt pain and numbness all over his body, but he barely endured, not daring to pause, he sprinted, jumped, and rolled behind a column, all in one breath.
A juvenile Red Dragon actually using Spells, releasing tracking Lightning, isn’t that a bit absurd? Zaren leaned against the column, heart pounding, relieved there was a column, or else he might have been flipped by the electricity.
Hmm, he remembered what he had just said; he was supposed to fight such juvenile Red Dragons, ten, five?
Isn’t one already tough enough?
The air seemed to carry the scent of burning.
As expected of a high-level Devil, even being elite Hunting Demon capable of battling ice demons with a challenge level of 14, it still didn’t fall after several hits from the Hand Palm Bomb. Leon forcefully pulled out his tail, thinking of how to defeat the Hunting Demon, realizing he had to go all out.
Zaren could not see from behind the pillar, but Sogran, who was conducting the ritual, saw clearly how the giant Red Dragon pulled its tail from the sticky web, turned into a puff of smoke and disappeared, reappearing behind the Hunting Demon. The Hunting Demon, possessing True Vision, surprisingly couldn’t see anything and merely relied on passive perception to instinctively dodge.
The Hunting Demon had decent perception, and its passive awareness was quite good. Leon’s Breaking Stealth Strike with Gathering Form and Scattering Energy barely touched the Hunting Demon, probably causing little damage, but he still had another trick up his sleeve, the Samadhi True Fire, ready to unleash.
Sogran saw Leon take a deep breath and exhale a fierce flame towards the Hunting Demon with a laugh. Are the Red Dragons that foolish now, not knowing that the Hunting Demon is immune to flames?
Only Zaren, the victim, knew how outrageous the Red Dragon’s flames were. The Red Dragon’s fire was burning his soul.
Devils killed on the Material Plane do not die permanently; they are merely banished back to Hell. Death on the Main Material Plane merely brings inconvenience and shame. When burned by the Red Dragon’s flame, Zaren suddenly felt true death.
Being a survivor from the blood battles, Zaren was undoubtedly clever. Without hesitation, he didn’t care about anything else, such as, due to his desertion, causing Sogran’s ritual to open the portal to the Nine Prisons to fail; he started running frantically, never wanting to see that Red Dragon ever again.
Leon did not expect that the un-solidified Samadhi True Fire would kill the Hunting Demon. Hunting Demon, being a high-level Devil and an elite, Tassera might not be its match. Simply seriously wounding it was acceptable.
Leon was busy pulling out arrows that had penetrated his scales and flesh, expecting the Hunting Demon to continue guerrilla warfare with him until the Hunting Demon suddenly ran a great distance, tossing traps that cost nothing as it ran away, finally escaping out of the iron-forged hall.
Leon wanted to chase, but stopped after two steps, realizing that although it seemed like a burglary now, there were more important things than chasing the Hunting Devil.
Seeing the usually arrogant and imposing Hunting Demon running away from the Red Dragon’s flames, Sogran’s lips twitched continuously.
As a being often dealing with fire, Sogran could tell how special the Red Dragon’s flames were, but he didn’t have time to ponder the specifics of the flame because the Red Dragon was staring at him.
"Your aide has run off," Leon said.
"Don’t come here," Sogran was a bit panicked then.
"Any other aides?" Leon still had strength to spare, "If not, it’s your turn to fight me."
"You," Sogran uttered, stern yet fearful, "think carefully. Because you made the Great Devil’s plan fail, can you bear the Great Devil’s revenge?"
"I have never heard of a Red Dragon fearing a Devil," Leon said. "And how would he take revenge? Send another Hunting Demon to hunt me? With experience, it won’t escape so easily next time."
"You initiated the fight, and now that you’re losing, you want it to end—where’s the ease in that?" Leon, still in pain from the Hunting Demon’s arrow, wasn’t ready to let it go.
Sogran knew the Red Dragon wouldn’t let him go. Not one to beg for mercy, he stopped the ritual, picked up a Nail Head Hammer, and said, "Red Dragon, you’re formidable. You defeated that coward, but I’m not a weakling either."
Sogran swung the Nail Head Hammer, casting a Hellfire Orb without the gentlemanly warning to Leon that the Hunting Demon might have given.
Sogran was no weakling; presiding over the ritual here made him an elite among Prison Fire Villains, much higher in challenge level than ordinary ones. The Hellfire Orb was mighty indeed, with a broad attack range, causing not only flame damage but also Dark Erosion Damage.
However, no matter how, he was far inferior to the Hunting Demon—limited to only straightforward attacks, lacking various cunning tactics. As a result, Leon didn’t struggle much to finish him off. Of course, it wasn’t without effort, as none of the necessary spells could be spared.
After defeating the Prison Fire Villain, Leon checked his mana. Two consecutive battles had depleted his spell reserves significantly—if another enemy appeared, he might have to flee, suspecting the possibility of serious injury if the Prison Fire Villain and Hunting Demon had teamed up.
Now was not the time to think about these things. Leon curiously walked up to the massive teleportation gate, thinking the portal opened by the Prison Fire Villain, guarded by the Hunting Demon, probably led to the Nine Prisons.
Given another chance, he definitely wouldn’t come here. He might not know the benefits, but troubles were certain. But let it be, as he had just said, there’s no reason for a Red Dragon to fear devils; Pit Fiends aren’t that easily reaching the Material Plane.
Leon, having never seen a teleportation gate before, approached it curiously, thinking it might not have been completed yet.
Lost in his thoughts, Leon suddenly saw a pair of eyes looking at him from the other side of the portal, then two pairs, three pairs, four pairs, five pairs, stopping at five.
Leon was startled; recognizing the terrifying nature of the eyes’ owner, he thought of fleeing. Then with a change of heart, he decided, why not finish this? He unleashed a mouthful of Samadhi True Fire and burned the portal down.
Damn thing, scaring me. I dare not go to the Nine Prisons, so come find me in the Material Plane.
