Chapter 129: Chapter 129 I Want to Be a Fisherman
Even Earth is far from peaceful, with people dying every day in several war-torn regions, not to mention this world, where fighting and killing are commonplace and hardly surprising.
Leon thought it was just the usual skirmishes, with Dwarves clashing with Orcs, goblins, or even with Gray Dwarves—the latter completely an intra-species conflict born from bitterness and resentment, evolving into an unending dispute. He didn’t expect that the main characters in the fight would be Fire Giants.
The challenge level of Fire Giants is not low, and one must be careful when spectating a battle involving them. Leon landed on a distant hilltop and quickly transformed into human form to avoid being conspicuous, feeling fortunate that the intense battle meant no one noticed him.
"Fire Giants fighting Dwarves?" Cecilia landed beside Leon, who liked watching the excitement and was eager to observe the battle up close but really didn’t have the guts for it. She could handle one Fire Giant at most, but two would be too much for her.
"And Humans," Leon reminded.
Cecilia blinked and asked, "Did the Fire Giants capture slaves?"
Fire Giants, who are Order Evil, enjoy enslaving other creatures for low-tech labor so they can focus on more important tasks, such as forging and crafting things only they can handle. However, compared to Efreeti, they are relatively better masters—not overly cruel but certainly not kind.
Under such circumstances, Fire Giants favor Dwarves as slaves because they believe Dwarves are ideal for servitude. Even when captured and forced to work, Dwarves are driven by nature to give their all to the task at hand, which offers some relief from the feeling of confinement.
"No, it’s not the Fire Giants descending the mountain to capture slaves," Leon looked at the smoking Volcano, realizing they were initially drawn to the Volcano, seeing a stream of Molten River flowing through the iron casting hall halfway up the mountain, "It’s not Fire Giants coming down to take slaves, it looks more like those Humans and Dwarves attacking the Fire Giants."
Leon took a closer look with a slight frown and said, "I see Fire Giants fighting Fire Giants, so it’s Humans and Dwarves allied with some Fire Giants attacking other Fire Giants."
"It’s not Fire Giants capturing slaves, nor is it Humans and Dwarves against Fire Giants. I can imagine a civil war among Efreeti..." Cecilia said, "But Humans, Dwarves, and Fire Giants joining forces to attack other Fire Giants—what’s that about?"
Leon glanced at Cecilia and said, "As your master, I command you, my maid, to investigate the reason for their battle."
"Me?" Cecilia hid behind Leon; she wasn’t ready to die yet. "Brother, don’t say such scary things, your sister doesn’t want to die yet."
Leon did not bother Cecilia. He himself was reluctant to get involved in this battle, afraid of danger, not to mention Cecilia was truly just an average Green Dragon.
"I see a Hellhound," Cecilia suddenly said.
The Hellhound, a formidable beast resembling an evil dog and breathing fire, is pervasive throughout the Lower Plane, typically serving as animal guards and companions for devils, Fire Giants, and other evil creatures in the Material Plane.
Leon looked carefully and spotted the Hellhound as well, seeing it knocked down by a hammer blow from a Dwarf in heavy armor, followed by another hammer strike, then quickly consumed by the uncontrollable Purgatory Fire inside, leaving nothing but charred fur amidst the billowing smoke and burning ashes.
Cecilia was indeed far more attentive than Leon. She quickly noticed other anomalies and said, "I see them, those humans, dwarves, and fire giants who are together attacking other fire giants – the ones with horns on their heads and tails."
As soon as Cecilia mentioned it, Leon also saw clearly. His expression turned grave as he said, "Prison Fire Villains, those are Prison Fire Villains... I didn’t expect to see them in addition to the Evil Flame Fire Giants."
"I’ve heard my master speak of the Evil Flame Fire Giants; my master’s weapon was forged with the help of one." Cecilia’s experience was limited as she had only inherited some fundamental knowledge from her parents, not extensive, "What are Prison Fire Villains all about?"
"The Evil Flame Fire Giants are those who gazed too deeply into the Fierce Flame and succumbed to corruption by the Fire Element Prince, Yimixi." Leon explained, "The Prison Fire Villains are those who, because of their addiction to the blood war, made a pact with a powerful devil, and inevitably became corrupted."
Cecilia chuckled, "Are fire giants so easily corrupted?"
"If fire giants didn’t become corrupted, we wouldn’t be able to see such an exciting scene," Leon said.
Cecilia nodded non-committally and continued, "If those fire giants have turned into Prison Fire Villains, then the battle becomes easy to understand – it’s the fire giants uniting with humans and dwarves against the Prison Fire Villains, those traitors who sided with the Evil Demons."
Leon nodded. He thought Cecilia’s speculation was mostly correct, at most with minor details off.
"I think this is a good opportunity." Cecilia touched her lips and suddenly said, "We could wait for them to be both weakened from fighting each other, then take out whoever is left. That Fire Giant Fortress would then be ours, including the farms at the base of the mountains."
"Even if the master doesn’t want to stay here," Cecilia continued, "there must be many treasures hidden inside that Fire Giant Fortress."
Facing those kind-hearted beings, like pixies, as long as he didn’t provoke them, Leon felt a bit guilty about bullying them. But if the opposition belonged to the evil camp, dog-eat-dog, he didn’t feel any psychological pressure at all.
"You really are an instigator," Leon admitted he was somewhat tempted.
Compared to defeating enemies head-on, green dragons prefer conspiracy and trickery, achieving victory through deception, temptation, suggestion, incitement, bribery, intimidation, and divisiveness. Cecilia was no exception, and upon hearing Leon’s words, she couldn’t help but smile, taking it as a compliment.
"It looks like those Prison Fire Villains are a bit at a disadvantage," Cecilia observed, "Shouldn’t you help them out so they don’t fall too quickly? Humans, dwarves, and fire giants all have animosity towards the Red Dragon, so it would be just right for you to assist the Prison Fire Villains."
"If I didn’t want this piece of land..." Cecilia’s plan was good, but Leon had other thoughts, "Why shouldn’t I just storm into that Fire Giant Fortress and then run off with the loot?"
Leon was eager to try, surprised to find himself in a situation where fishermen profit from the quarrel between snipe and clam.
So, how should he sneak into that iron-cast hall without making a sound? It seems the only option is to activate Gathering Form and Scattering Energy and go invisible to sneak past.
In any case, with the fierce battle raging outside, it’s unlikely that anyone would still be in the iron-cast hall.
