Chapter 89: Chapter 89: Is It Okay Not to Go Back?

He Fang had spoken for a long time, indeed a very long time.

Qin Guanglin had been waiting left and right but hadn’t seen her. Just when he was about to doubt whether she was teasing him again, she finally sent a message saying she had gotten off the bus.

He looked at the time; it was already past eight in the evening, and he had to send her back by nine... With such a short while, he might as well have gone to find her at school.

He had just sent her back yesterday afternoon, and though they had only been apart for a little over twenty hours, it still wasn’t enough for them. They always craved more time together. Qin Guanglin wished he could see her as soon as he got home from work every day and then have to part the next morning when he went back to work.

After marriage, they should be able to...

He quickly stepped out the door and hurried toward the bus stop. As Qin Guanglin turned the corner, he saw He Fang approaching under the streetlight. He was about to smile and speak when Teacher He had already pounced and hugged him tightly.

"I missed you."

Qin Guanglin staggered back half a step from her impact. He hadn’t expected that after a trip out, his girlfriend had become so clingy. Feeling the strength of her embrace, a sense of happiness bubbled up from the depths of his heart.

"Next time you miss me, just tell me, and I’ll come to find you at school, okay?"

He Fang buried her head in his chest without speaking and snuggled in hard for a moment before letting go of her arms. Then, linking her arm through his, she turned him around, "I miss you all the time, why don’t you come to school with me?"

"Aren’t you about to graduate?" Qin Guanglin followed her movement and started walking towards their home, "I’ll ask at work if they are still hiring editors. You could come work with me."

"No, I’m waiting to be a teacher." He Fang rejected his suggestion outright.

She had already planned everything and wasn’t going to change it on a whim, plus she was considering having him quit his job. How could she possibly go to work with him?

"Alright." Qin Guanglin was a bit disappointed, his fantasy of working together with her was dashed.

He knew He Fang had her own plans and didn’t try to persuade her further. After a moment of thought, he reminded her, "There’s a relative staying at my house for a few days, quite annoying. Just ignore her when you see her."

"What relative?"

"My aunt."

"Oh~" He Fang leaned on him and smiled, "Okay, I’ll ignore her."

The two of them strolled home arm in arm. When they reached the door and opened it, the aunt was still chatting with Qin’s Mom in the living room. Curious, she turned her head at the sound of their entrance.

"Is that He Fang? Do you want some sunflower seeds?" Qin’s Mom picked up some sunflower seeds to offer.

"No need, thank you, Auntie."

"Are you Guanglin’s girlfriend?" The aunt twisted her head around to size her up.

Tsk, the kid’s girlfriend looks quite decent.

Qin Guanglin didn’t bother with her and pulled He Fang straight to the bedroom, afraid she would interrogate them further. Even if he could throw her words back in her face, it would still be disgusting.

He Fang unenthusiastically nodded without saying a word and followed Qin Guanglin into the bedroom. With a click, they closed the door behind them.

"Eh?" The aunt was stunned for a moment, her gaze shifting from the door to Qin’s Mom, "Why is the girl so silent?"

"Isn’t that what I said?" Qin’s Mom, who had grabbed a handful of sunflower seeds, hadn’t put them down but continued cracking them in her mouth, "I asked her if she wanted any, and she said no."

"..."

The aunt pouted, "Running over here so late at night, what stage has their relationship reached? They’re not planning to stay here, are they?"

"Go on, what’s wrong with a young couple being sweet for a bit? Guanglin will send her back in a little while."

"If my Ting dares to do that late at night..." The aunt looked again toward Qin Guanglin’s bedroom door.

"You’d break her leg." Qin’s Mom sounded impatient, "She’s not your daughter; why worry so much? How can people date according to what you say?"

"I’m not worried, when did I say it had to be according to what I say." The aunt paused for a moment, "It’s just that watching them..."

"Why meddle in others’ business, just pretend you didn’t see anything."

Inside the bedroom.

He Fang flopped onto the bed and didn’t want to move. She turned her face to one side and looked at Qin Guanglin while asking the same question.

"Is it inappropriate for me to come over so late at night?"

"What’s there to mind?" Qin Guanglin carelessly poured her a glass of water, "You’re my girlfriend. You can come over whenever you want; there’s nothing wrong with that."

The pair already shared a bed when they went out to play, so this little thing really wasn’t an issue—after all, they would be a family in the future.

"Just leave it there, I don’t want to drink right now." He Fang rejected the glass of water he handed over and then turned over to spread her arms, "Hold me."

"Missing me that much?"

Qin Guanglin climbed onto the bed and gave her a peck before slipping his arms under her neck and pulling her in with a slight effort, "Did you come over just because you wanted me to hold you?"

"Sometimes, I feel like it’s all so unreal." He Fang buried her head in his chest and mumbled.

"What’s unreal?"

"Everything, all of it, it all feels unreal."

"Huh?" Qin Guanglin laughed, "How could that be? I’m a real person holding you here. Could that even be fake?"

"I had a dream last night. I dreamt you were gone again." Her voice was a bit somber, "I’m really scared."

"Don’t worry, when have I ever disappeared?"

Seeing her spirits dip, Qin Guanglin gently stroked her back to comfort her, "Next time you have a nightmare, just call me. I’ll turn up the ringtone at night, I’m sure I’ll hear it."

"Hold me tighter."

"Is that enough?"

"Yeah, just like this."

He Fang closed her eyes and felt the warmth of his embrace, the oppression on her heart gradually dissipated a bit.

In the middle of the night, she suddenly woke up, surrounded by darkness, lying alone in bed, unable to distinguish dreams from reality, that sense of despair suffocated her.

Thankfully, now it was real.

"I don’t want to stay at the dorm anymore."

"If you don’t stay at the dorm... do you want to rent a place outside?" Qin Guanglin thought for a moment, "Anyway, we’re about to graduate. It might be good to find a place to live first. I’ll help you look for a suitable place another day."

"I can find one myself. You can just help me move stuff when the time comes." He Fang quickly decided to move out, "I’ll look for a place close to here so I can come over often."

"Yeah, it’s better to be close. It makes things easier if anything comes up." He kissed his girlfriend, feeling a little expectant, "If you find cooking a hassle when you’re alone, just come here, and I’ll cook for you. I’ve been the one cooking these past days. I’ll learn to make it tasty in no time."

Being able to see her every day, eating together every day—it sounded like a perfect, happy life.

"We’re just dating, coming over to your place for meals wouldn’t look good if others saw it."

"Then I’ll come over to your place." Qin Guanglin’s mind raced. It didn’t matter who visited whom, as long as they were close enough to see each other every day.

"We’ll talk about it when the time comes."

He Fang shifted in his embrace, quietly savoring the comfort and saying no more.

She didn’t want to rent a place; she just wanted to live together, to fall asleep holding him every night, and to wake up being able to snuggle in his arms for a while longer.

But it wasn’t possible yet.

Qin Guanglin also fell silent, imagining her life after renting her own place, until he thought it was about time to check his watch, "It’s past nine, I should take you back."

"So soon?" He Fang reluctantly propped herself up to look outside, sitting on the bed, not wanting to move.

Qin Guanglin reluctantly sat up, time had indeed flown by, "Let’s go. I’ll come to see you at school tomorrow, and we’ll have dinner together."

"Can I not go back tonight, please?" He Fang suddenly suggested.

"Ah?"

"You sleep on the sofa outside later, I’ll sleep here." She stretched out her hand to push Qin Guanglin down on the bed, then dived back into his arms, "That’s decided."

"..."

Qin Guanglin was dumbfounded as he held her again, instinctively tightening his arms.

Although he felt it wasn’t right, it seemed impossible to refuse.
