Sweet slice-of-life love story: Wife, Let's love again -
Chapter 325 - 318: Future Prospects
Chapter 325: Chapter 318: Future Prospects
"Life is but a few short autumns, I won’t rest until I’m drunk..."
On this day, at the end of June.
Qin Guanglin hummed a tune as he went to work, carrying a big bag with him. He arrived at the office and tossed a box of sweets onto Chen Rui’s desk.
"Here, for you."
Chen Rui picked it up, turned it over, then looked at Qin Guanglin, who had the satisfied expression of a spring breeze on his face, and said, "Wedding candies?"
"Of course, what, you think I’m confessing my love to you?" Qin Guanglin said. He then rummaged through the bag and finally pulled out a wedding invitation, examined it briefly, and handed it over to Chen Rui.
"Do we really need to be this formal?"
"Absolutely, I’ve relied entirely on your careful cultivation over the years, getting promotions and raises from you. Thanks to that I’ve bought a car, purchased a house, and even married a wife."
Qin Guanglin clicked his tongue twice and continued, "You have to come, it’s just on the weekend, no excuses about working overtime."
The concept of "letting some people get rich first, and then leading others to do the same" was perfectly exemplified in Chen Rui, rather than simply being lucky. If he hadn’t fortuitously met Chen Rui, although he was confident he could have earned all this eventually, it just wouldn’t have happened so quickly.
"I’ll be there for sure," Chen Rui said with a smile, opening the wedding invitation to take a closer look before tucking it into his bag.
"All this talk of cultivation, I couldn’t handle this big operation alone; it’s about mutual benefit."
"Right, mutual benefit. I’m off to distribute sweets to the others."
While each person only got sweets, Qin Guanglin walked around with his bag and collected a round of hearty congratulations.
"Have a candy and cheer up. If you have time, come join the fun, haha. And if you don’t, this blessing is enough."
"I’ll go, definitely."
"I’ll take the day off if I have to... Oh, it’s on the weekend? Well, then there’s no problem."
"Congratulations, Brother Lin."
The crowd chattered away, examining the candy boxes; they were quite high-end.
Qin Guanglin had prepared these specially. Since joining the company, although many people had come and gone, the harmony among those who stayed and the new coworkers was exceptional. They worked together towards a common goal, which resulted in the company’s current scale and income. As a director, he naturally received more than the others.
Initially, he thought the term ’partner’ sounded too cheesy coming from Chen Rui, but after spending time at the company, it didn’t feel the least bit out of place.
"Getting married is one thing, but don’t let it delay your drawing."
The very first thing Chen Rui did these days when he came in was to check the website data on the computer. Qin Guanglin’s webcomics were too eye-catching, with three out of the top five being his. The traffic for "My Wife is Too Cute" was even a bit higher than the combined totals of the second and third place.
"Fortune doesn’t betray the prepared mind..." Chen Rui shook his head in amazement. The adage really applied to this young man.
Although Sun Wen’s departure had been a severe blow at the time, now he thought about it, he should thank Sun Wen for bringing Qin Guanglin to the company. Otherwise, it would still be a little broken studio, too quiet every day.
Qin Guanglin, on the other hand, hadn’t thought so much about it and said nonchalantly, "Don’t worry, about the comics... how should I put it?" He pondered a bit, unsure how to describe it.
"Hmm?" Chen Rui asked, curious.
"It’s too easy... well, that’s not right. Anyway, getting married and such, it’s really beneficial for ’My Wife.’ Drawing life events is simple; there’s even more I can draw about marriage. And once my daughter is born, there can be a sequel called ’My daughter is so cute!’ How’s that?" Qin Guanglin grinned.
"..."
Chen Rui was momentarily speechless but realized that what Qin said actually made a lot of sense.
My daughter is so cute?
"So what if you have a cheeky little boy? ’My Son is Too Cute?’"
"It’s impossible. I drew a fortune stick too, and the Bodhisattva told me I would have a daughter," Qin Guanglin blurted out a Bodhisattva claim.
Chen Rui couldn’t help but laugh. "Then you can draw for a lifetime. Eventually, it’ll be ’My Grandson,’ ’My Granddaughter,’ and the legacy will go on forever."
"Yep, a house full of children and grandchildren, what a pity you don’t have any. Sigh—want me to have my girlfriend introduce you to someone? She graduated from the literature department; all her classmates are literary giants. They can write the stories while you do the drawing, a perfect match."
"Cut it out. I’m quite content as is."
After some idle chatter, Qin Guanglin went back to his seat to continue with his work, and Chen Rui stared at his computer screen, zoning out until someone knocked on the door, which snapped him back to handling business.
Comics are enough. Who needs a girlfriend?
...
...
After work in the evening, Qin Guanglin said goodbye to his colleagues and descended the stairs to drive home.
Upon entering the door, the aroma of food hit him in the face.
"Wife, where’s our marriage certificate?"
He had just gotten the marriage certificate yesterday, and today he had no idea where He Fang had put it. He searched casually and stretched his neck to shout outside.
"It’s in the nightstand... Why are you looking for it again?" He Fang, cooking, replied, "Didn’t you look at it all day yesterday and still haven’t had enough?"
"No, I need to use it."
Having received his answer, Qin Guanglin rummaged through the nightstand, and sure enough, it was there. He took it out into the living room and muttered, "Why did you hide it so deep? I had to look half a day for it..."
"I wanted to ask you the same thing. What use do you have for this thing, apart from getting a divorce? If you don’t store it at the bottom, where should you keep it?"
"Pah, pah, pah, stop talking nonsense. I’m drawing a copy of it—to show those single dogs who have never seen one, give them a glimpse."
Qin Guanglin happily took the marriage certificate into his study, found his drawing board, and began to sketch.
The drawing in the comic was, of course, not an exact replica; the photos on top turned into cartoonish big-headed stickers of him and He Fang in the comic. The names were listed as Qin Xiaolin and Little He Fang, and after pondering for a moment, he wrote down the date they first met as their ID numbers. It looked quite convincing.
As he said, this comic was indeed easy to draw, merely daily life with a touch of embellishment to complete an issue. It was mixed in with things like Qin’s Mom releasing captured animals, He’s Daddy playing chess, He Shan’s convoluted logic, and the day-to-day henpecked life of Xiao Yu.
"Do you have to be so meticulous? Come out and eat," He Fang stood behind him and watched for a while, then patted his hand to call him for dinner.
Qin Guanglin had just finished drawing the marriage certificate, set down his pen, stood up, and followed her out of the study, saying, "How could I not be meticulous? I have to show it to our daughter in the future, to let her see how her parents fell in love, to establish a proper view of love for her, so no stinking boy can run off with her... I have to watch out for Xiao Yu’s kid. My daughter can’t marry a fishing man who can’t catch fish."
"..."
He Fang paused imperceptibly. The closer it got to their wedding day, the more unease she felt, especially since Qin Guanglin brought up having a daughter on a daily basis.
A complete daddy’s girl at heart.
"That Xiao Yu can’t catch fish doesn’t mean his son can’t... Maybe his son won’t even like fishing," she said nonchalantly.
"Tch, he’s bound to take after him... and after his mother too. Isn’t your roommate quite impressive? I can already picture Xiao Yu’s son being unable to catch fish, getting so angry that he breaks the fishing rod in half, jumps into the river to catch fish bare-handed, punching a fish unconscious before hauling it out—"
As Qin Guanglin rambled on, his chopsticks paused, and he put down his bowl and got up, "That’s a great idea. I need to draw it down and add it to the comic. I’ll call it the Future Imagination Chapter. Our daughter needs to be included too. Later on, they can see how much it matches reality when they grow up."
"We’re having dinner!" He Fang got angry; this man had a comic drawing obsession.
He used to be like this, and he’s still like this with drawing comics, that same geeky habit.
"I’ll just jot it down so I don’t forget. I’ll be right there," Qin Guanglin hurried back into the study to ponder.
"Pfft, if I finish eating, you’ll eat naught!"
