Chapter 299: Chapter 294: As Promised

Outside the door, two girls were holding He Fang’s hand and following behind Xiao Yu as they entered the private room.

Sun Wen and Yu Fei exchanged glances, looked at the people over there, and then looked at Qin Guanglin.

"Are you trying to steal Xiao Yu’s bride?"

"No... Bah, I mean, the one next to her." Qin Guanglin snapped out of it, stood up to go pull He Fang, but seeing the girls holding hands, he felt too embarrassed to interrupt, fiddling with his pant leg, not knowing where to put his hands.

"What brings you here?"

"I’m here for a friend’s wedding."

"Do you know each other?"

Xiao Yu was dumbfounded, and Zhou Nan was also stunned. She took a closer look at Qin Guanglin, then suddenly realized, "You’re her boyfriend!"

"Ah?" Xiao Yu continued being dumbfounded. Was this Qin Guanglin’s boyfriend... Bah, girlfriend?

Qin Guanglin came to his senses as well, "You’re... You’re that..." He turned to look at Xiao Yu and slapped his thigh, "So it’s you guys!"

No wonder those wedding photos looked familiar; these were the roommates he’d had a passing encounter with under He Fang’s dormitory building.

"Let’s sit down and talk. There’s this connection too?"

Xiao Yu still hadn’t sorted out the relationships, but that didn’t stop him from greeting everyone to take their seats.

The group, including Sun Wen, who had already been seated, watched the scene of this recognition gathering with wide-eyed wonder.

What a coincidence!

Did these two guys hook up with two sisters who knew each other?

"Come here for a sec."

Qin Guanglin pulled He Fang aside to a corner, glanced at Xiao Yu and the intrigued and complicated expressions of the bride, and whispered, "Did you already know?"

"Know what?" He Fang feigned astonishment, "Turns out the wedding of your friend and that of my friend are the same one!"

"..."

Qin Guanglin resignedly said, "Alright, let’s sit down. We can talk about it later."

"Nice to meet you, Mr. Qin." He Fang’s eyebrows curved as she followed behind him, hands clasped behind her back.

"How nice is it?" Qin Guanglin quirked his mouth, still a bit startled from earlier.

"As nice as you knowing me."

Qin Guanglin’s heart skipped a beat, then he took her to their seats with a cough, "Eh... this is my girlfriend." He scratched his head, looking at the bride-to-be whose belly was slightly protruding, "We’ve met before... never expected to have such serendipity."

"So, my wife, and your... your future wife, were roommates?" Xiao Yu couldn’t hide his amazement. If only he had known to introduce them to each other, to go out and hang out together.

"Yeah... I just found out."

"You’re Xiao Yu’s friend... who would’ve guessed? Walking on the street, I probably wouldn’t even remember who you are."

Zhou Nan felt the surprise too. Looking at it this way, Qin Guanglin was even the best man... Best man and maid of honor being a couple made her wedding all the more interesting.

"Fate, it really is fate," He Fang smiled sweetly at Qin Guanglin, a peace in her heart like she had never felt before.

"I even asked her before to bring her boyfriend out to hang out, but she refused. Otherwise, we would’ve met earlier," Zhou Nan glanced at He Fang with a smile, "Just now on the way here we were talking about when she would get married. What a coincidence that you two are best man and maid of honor."

In a way, it seemed like a continuation of happiness; now she and Xiao Yu were getting married, and in the future, the best man and maid of honor might as well. It inexplicably made her happy.

Xiao Yu’s eyes darted back and forth across everyone’s faces, starting to believe in fate.

His good buddy as the best man, his buddy’s girlfriend being the bride’s good friend and serving as the maid of honor... Such a coincidence happening to him...

Incredible!

"Let’s talk later; I’ll go tell them to start serving the food." Xiao Yu poured tea for everyone and went out to call the waiter.

The food had already been mostly prepared, and upon being summoned, it promptly arrived at the table. The drinks and dishes were plentiful, and the atmosphere immediately became lively. Qin Guanglin did not sit at the groom’s table, quickly betraying his side to squeeze in at the bride’s table.

"What’s with Lin?" Sun Wen gossiped with Xiao Yu, and the others perked up their ears to listen.

The brief exchange had given only a rough idea, far from satisfying their curiosity for gossip.

"His girlfriend, she’s my wife’s best friend, here to be my wife’s bridesmaid."

"Wow!"

"You guys have got something here, why didn’t you marry on the same day?"

"Weren’t you introduced by them, or did you introduce them? Such a coincidence?"

Looking toward Qin Guanglin at the other table, everyone clicked their tongues in amazement, exchanging glances and reaching some unspoken agreement.

"Let’s get him drunk!"

Qin Guanglin was still marveling at the wonder when person after person came over with a drink.

Xiao Yu was dealing with a group of people and then glanced over at the crowd surrounding Qin Guanglin, pulling him to the table where he slammed down a bottle.

"Drink all you can today, just take it easy when it’s my turn to get married."

Qin Guanglin felt a twinge in his heart, "You’re serious?"

"Otherwise?"

"Then why are you dragging me into this..."

"As a groomsman, you’ve got to act the part," Xiao Yu winked. He couldn’t handle it all himself; he needed someone to stand with him.

One of a groomsman’s duties is to shield the groom from overdrinking, and Qin Guanglin had nothing to say. Although it wasn’t the wedding yet, it was like he was already taking shots for it.

"Come on, bring it on." Qin Guanglin grabbed the teapot and gulped down half a belly of water, just in case he drank too much to get home.

He Fang glanced over briefly and stopped paying attention. If they drank too much, he could just take them upstairs to sleep it off. He didn’t need to worry about this wedding.

Fortunately, the crowd was more rowdy than serious about drinking, and nobody was aiming to get anyone smashed. The usual ringleaders were subdued, and Sun Wen, who loved to rally everyone to drink, simply came over with a full glass and clinked with Xiao Yu.

"Now that you’re married, you’ve got to be happy."

He guzzled down a whole glass and, seeing Xiao Yu preparing to chug it all, patted his shoulder and said, "Just take a sip, a sip is fine."

Sun Wen refilled his glass and turned to Qin Guanglin, "You too."

Qin Guanglin didn’t know if he meant the first or the second part, or maybe both, but he laughed, nodded, clinked glasses, and downed it.

Around the circle they went, Xiao Yu’s face turned red, his spirit unusually high, "Brothers, let’s all grab one!"

His was a simple family and his wedding couldn’t compare to Yu Fei’s grand affair. Back then, Yu Fei only had two tables of classmates and friends at the huge hotel venue, dominated by business acquaintances of both sets of parents, with the entire event outsourced to a wedding planning company, requiring little effort on their part.

Xiao Yu handled everything he could himself, borrowing cars for the bridal procession from friends and relatives, renting from a wedding company when necessary. Not every little task depended on this group of brothers, but they all had to chip in some effort.

Everyone was in high spirits, blessing them with howls of joy even before the wedding had arrived.

"Cheers!"

After draining his glass, Xiao Yu let out a long sigh.

Transitioning directly from dating to fatherhood, he had skipped many steps. He wasn’t ready, yet Zhou Nan’s belly was growing day by day.

No longer could he drink and smoke alone, laze around with the cat, or pick up a fishing rod to fish by the Luo River.

He wouldn’t be able to rotate seven pairs of socks for a week, only washing once to save time and effort.

Adding more people and chopsticks wasn’t just talk—he went from a bachelor’s carefree work routine directly into the dual roles of husband and father.

From a carefree Fishing Man to the pillar of a family, no matter what lay ahead, he had to face it head-on and bear the weight.

This was the last time he could drink freely—at least for the next few years.

"I, Xiao Yu, am getting married! Hahaha."

He laughed loudly, eyes unexpectedly turning red.
