Chapter 298: Chapter 293: I’m Here for the Appointment

Dreams faded with the early morning awakening.

He Fang stretched out her hand and grasped at the air as if she were trying to hold on to something, then opened her eyes, dazed for a moment, before turning her head to look at Qin Guanglin, who was making noises beside her.

"Dreaming?"

Qin Guanglin was getting dressed and laughed a bit when he saw her movement. "Did you dream about pork elbows or pig’s trotters again?"

He Fang closed her eyes to savor the moment, then propped herself up to kiss him. "Are you going out?"

"Yeah, I’ve got to go to a friend’s to get familiar with his wedding arrangements so I won’t be all over the place later."

After standing on the floor and stamping her feet, He Fang laughed and said, "Go on then, call me if anything—do you want me to come with you to his wedding?"

"We’ll see, you hurry along."

Suppressing her laughter and waving her hand, He Fang said, "Bye-bye."

"Bye-bye."

Qin Guanglin finished dressing and went out. He left his car at the car wash for cleaning, preparing it to join the wedding motorcade, then he took a taxi alone to Xiao Yu’s home. There were several cars parked at the door, including Sun Wen’s BMW prominently among them.

As he entered, he indeed saw Sun Wen sitting on the couch, chatting and laughing with a few people. He greeted Qin Guanglin nonchalantly as he came in.

Pretending as though nothing was amiss, Qin Guanglin chatted with everyone for a bit before Xiao Yu emerged from the bedroom, signaling for everyone to head to the hotel.

These were all classmates and friends who would be helping with the wedding, meeting up for a meal to set the tone and to get the group from Zhou Nan’s side together to familiarize themselves and avoid any blunders on the day of the wedding.

"Where’s your car?" Xiao Yu asked curiously when he didn’t see Qin Guanglin’s car.

"I sent it to get washed. Gotta make it clean and impressive for the bride-picking," replied Qin Guanglin.

"Good brother, that’s thoughtful," Xiao Yu said with a pat on his shoulder, then turned around and instructed, "Look at you guys, after we finish eating, get your cars washed as well, put it on my tab. We’ve got to be impressive, shake up the bride’s family a bit."

"Then I’ll call them to give it a wax too," joked Qin Guanglin as he got into Xiao Yu’s car.

Seven or eight cars slowly left the alley and drove onto the road. Xiao Yu led the way at the front, followed by a long line, all heading majestically toward the hotel.

"Last time, from what you said, I thought Sun Wen wouldn’t come, but I just saw him again," Qin Guanglin said casually as he looked through the rearview mirror.

"I just tried inviting him; I didn’t expect him to come," murmured Xiao Yu, smacking his lips. "Don’t let it slip. It’s not something to be proud of, just act like you know nothing."

"Nonsense, would I go up to him and specifically bring it up? My mouth is much stricter than yours. I heard about it from you."

"Sigh... Back then when the three of us used to drink together, he seemed the most likely to get married. How did things turn out this way... I really can’t figure it out."

Xiao Yu was reminded of the times they drank at Uncle Shao’s restaurant. Back then, Sun Wen was still arguing with his girlfriend, he was single, and Qin Guanglin had just started dating.

In just two years, aside from Qin Guanglin who was still tepidly dating, he and Sun Wen had both experienced earth-shaking changes.

"That’s fate, I suppose," Qin Guanglin remarked.

Ever since the trip to Zhongnan, he often pondered destiny; previously a skeptic, he now believed more than anyone.

"What destiny? It’s all one’s own doing. If he had broken up with that someone earlier, and if I hadn’t... cough."

"Hadn’t what?"

"Nothing."

"You sneak home yet still want to play the innocent after getting the advantage."

"Hehe... When are you getting married? You’ve been dating for so long, and you let me overtake you on the inside track."

Sometimes, Xiao Yu also found it odd how, out of the blue, he had jumped straight to marriage – it was a complicated business...

"Preparations are underway. Should be married by next year."

"Then I can’t be your best man, as I’ll already be married."

"There has to be someone who can’t do it, I’ll see who else isn’t married by then and grab one—right now it’s good to familiarize myself with the process, gain some experience."

"Have you proposed yet?" Xiao Yu was curious. He had skipped almost the entire process, jumping directly to marriage.

"Not yet, I need to think about how to propose," said Qin Guanglin, reminded by the question that he indeed had forgotten to ponder this matter. "You didn’t propose?"

"Propose my ass, I already had a kid on the way, and I was in a hurry to organize the wedding."

"I was hoping to get some ideas from you..."

Qin Guanglin sighed with regret. Everything was a first for him; he didn’t even have any experience to draw from.

"Come on, think about it later."

The two casually chatted until they arrived at the hotel entrance, where Xiao Yu parked the car and waited for the others to park theirs before leading them into the private room.

The room was large, with two big tables set up. The dishes had been preordered, just waiting for everyone to arrive before starting the meal. For now, only their half from the groom’s side had arrived; the bride’s party hadn’t yet come, so they sat and chatted over tea.

"I have to say, pretty impressive. I’ve been married over a year and still not a dad, while you’ve got cooked rice ready to eat," Yu Fei slapped Xiao Yu’s shoulder lamenting. His own wedding was lively, but till now, nothing had come of it, making him consider a trip to the hospital to check for any problems.

"Hey, it’s all fate," Xiao Yu had already embraced the reality of being a soon-to-be dad, showing off smugly. "It just so happened, my son couldn’t wait to come out and see me, don’t worry, maybe your son just doesn’t want to come out so early."

"Pssh, you just know it’s going to be a boy?" Sun Wen sneered on the side.

"It has to be a boy!"

"Shivering cold here, make way, make way, I’m about to throw punches... Don’t splash me with blood."

"Easy there, easy. I’m afraid you’ll splash me with shit."

After some laughing and horsing around, Xiao Yu went outside to look around and sent Zhou Nan a message asking why she hadn’t arrived yet.

"Almost there, on the way."

...

Zhou Nan held her phone and replied, then turned to He Fang, "My belly’s all big now, and you and your boyfriend still aren’t married?"

There weren’t as many people on their side as Xiao Yu’s, just four cars, lined up on their way to the hotel.

"What’s the hurry, acting like you’re so honorable or something," He Fang said, looking at the road, feeling slightly complicated.

"Eh, are you secretly breaking up and too embarrassed to say it? It’s fine, I can introduce you to someone else. My husband has so many single buddies from school, there’s bound to be someone you like."

"How do you know your husband has so many single friends?"

"He bragged to me, saying he was the second one in the dorm to get married, the first to become a dad."

Zhou Nan touched her belly and looked up at her with a smile, "Back when you hadn’t even graduated, you started dating, and now I’m even faster than you."

"Who was asking me last year how long does it take to do ’that’?" He Fang squinted her eyes at her.

"Which ’that’?" Zhou Nan feigned ignorance.

"Do... ah..." He Fang raised her eyebrows and mouthed to her.

"Pah, you’re getting more and more indecent."

"Hmm, you’re not indecent, then how come your stomach’s blown up like a balloon?"

"...I’m ignoring you."

The two of them laughed and teased in the back seat, while Wu Yunyun, who was driving, glanced at the two through the rearview mirror and pouted, "Hey, hey, hey, there’s a single lady here, tone it down."

Two female hooligans, even worse than Chen Yan.

"Single lady?"

"..."

"Ah~ Could it be that our dorm really is cursed? So far, I’m the only one married."

"Chen Yan is also preparing to get married, being lovey-dovey with her boyfriend far away."

"What about you?" Zhou Nan leaned over the back seat to ask, "He Fang is on reserve now, where’s your boyfriend?"

"Do I need a boyfriend?" Wu Yunyun snorted, "Weak women need to cling to men, whereas strong individuals like me have no need for the opposite sex."

"Why don’t you have a baby on your own then?"

"We’ve arrived, keep up this act and be careful the groom might send you back."

"He wouldn’t dare?!"

Zhou Nan waved her fists and got out of the car upon seeing Xiao Yu waiting at the entrance. She pulled He Fang and Wu Yunyun together to go over.

...

In the private room.

Hearing that the bride was pregnant, no one smoked. Those who had the urge went outside or kept drinking tea instead.

Sun Wen kept holding his tea, swirling it like wine, taking a sip, and swirling it again before another sip.

"If you want to smoke, just go outside, you’ll end up peeing like a horse."

"You cannot imagine how strong my kidneys are," Sun Wen scoffed, filling his cup to the brim.

"...Isn’t it the bladder that holds urine?" Qin Guanglin questioned.

Sun Wen paused, "Is it? — Then let me rephrase, you cannot imagine how strong my bladder is."

"Always poop, pee, fart—can’t you do something productive like Xiao Yu?"

"Don’t talk about us, what about you?" Yu Fei nudged Qin Guanglin, "Where’s your wife?"

"Yeah, you’ve been dating for several years now."

Sun Wen chimed in, "Back when I broke up, you said you were about to get married. Now Xiao Yu’s become a father, so where’s your wife?"

"What’s the rush, my wife is just... just..."

Qin Guanglin heard some noise by the private room’s door. He turned to look and was suddenly stunned.

"Just... just... My wife’s right over there."

Confused, he raised his hand and pointed at the group of people who had just walked in.
