Chapter 276: Chapter 272: Get Yourself One Too

Early in the morning.

He Fang sat at the living room table, sipping porridge from her bowl little by little, and when she looked up, she noticed that Qin Guanglin was giving her an odd look.

"What are you looking at?"

"Nothing."

Qin Guanglin lowered his head to blow on the porridge in his bowl, took a sip, and then couldn’t help but look at her again.

He Fang was somewhat perplexed. Seeing the tiredness on his face, she asked, "Did you stay up late last night?"

"Uh... a bit late."

"Oh."

The atmosphere was slightly awkward. He Fang frowned, unable to pinpoint anything amiss, and decided not to mind it any further.

This guy always likes to be inexplicably odd.

"That... do you remember singing a song for me?" Qin Guanglin finally managed to ask, after hesitating for a while as breakfast was almost finished.

He suspected a mistake in his memory—the internet clearly stated it was an original theme song that had only been released two months ago.

A song that became popular on the internet in just two short months, how could it have been unknown before?

Odd.

"What song?"

"Cough... I want~ you to dress up for me~" Qin Guanglin sang a line acapella, looking at her curiously.

He Fang’s heart skipped a beat. She buried her head and took a few sips of porridge before looking up thoughtfully, "... I sang quite a few songs while riding my bike with you during your runs, right?"

"Yeah, you did sing quite a few."

"With so many songs, how am I supposed to remember whether I sang them or not? Most of them were just random hums I heard somewhere. People played music all the time in the dormitory when I was in school." He Fang rolled her eyes at him, pausing before asking, "Why suddenly ask about this?"

"There’s this new song..." Qin Guanglin started to gesture with his hands, then stopped, unsure of how to put it.

The new song clashed with an old one?

All the articles under the sky are plagiarisms, and so it is with songs.

He dropped his hand and sighed, shaking his head, "It’s nothing, maybe I remembered it wrong."

"I think you’re just too tired, working so hard and not going to bed earlier." He Fang held her bowl and gently blew on it, looking at him as she spoke, "You should spend more time thinking about houses instead of pondering over songs, you’re not becoming a star, are you?"

"It just feels strange."

Qin Guanglin scratched his head and pushed the thought to the back of his mind. He picked up his bowl and gulped down several mouthfuls of porridge, then stuffed a chopstickful of pickled vegetables into his mouth, chewing and saying, "You don’t take house-hunting seriously either, always finding fault with this place or that place. Where can you find such perfection? Wait until you face the reality that we are poor, then go over those neighborhoods again."

"It’s you who hasn’t faced that reality."

He Fang countered, putting down her utensils and wiping her mouth. Seeing that Qin Guanglin hadn’t finished eating, she took the hat beside her, put it on, and shook her head to swing the two small balls on top, asking, "Does it look good?"

"I bought it, so of course it looks good."

"You’re terrific, happy now?"

After finishing breakfast and tidying up the table, both dressed accordingly. He Fang helped him wrap his scarf and tidy it up, then they walked downstairs arm in arm.

The light snow from the previous night had turned into a heavy snowfall, blanketing everything with deep snow that almost covered the tops of their feet, turning everything in sight a blinding white. Qin Guanglin, exhaling cold breath, took a broom to clear the snow off the car before sitting inside to start the engine—fortunately, it started up without issue.

"When we buy a house, we have to get one with a parking spot—a garage would be best."

As Qin Guanglin started the car and turned it around, he casually added another criterion to their house-buying plan.

"And you say I’m not facing reality, when clearly it’s you who hasn’t accepted that we are poor." He Fang pouted and huffed, turning her head to look outside, "Let’s save money. We’re not in a hurry to buy; when we have enough, we’ll get it all in one go."

"You just told me to think about houses when I’m free."

"Thinking and buying are two different things, can’t I just think about it first?"

"Fine, you literature people are always so clever, you’re always right." Qin Guanglin shook his head resignedly, "All talk and no action, come here and give me a kiss."

"Drive safely, focus on the road."

After leaving South Fly Road, the snow on the main road had been cleared, and the conditions were fairly good. He dropped He Fang off at the gate of her school and watched her walk into the campus, her hat’s pom-poms bouncing. Then Qin Guanglin restarted the car and drove away.

He had stayed up until one or two o’clock the previous night, and yawning, he opened a small gap in the car window to let the cold air seep in. Instantly, he felt more alert, and his mind cleared significantly.

This really is strange... Could I have actually remembered it wrong?

He drummed his fingers lightly on the steering wheel to the rhythm of the music inside the car, listening to the familiar voice singing, and thoughts of the song surfaced again in his mind.

Even He Fang herself doesn’t remember ever singing it...

Qin Guanglin suddenly furrowed his brows, feeling that something was not quite right.

He had only hummed a line and asked He Fang whether she remembered singing this song, she could have simply answered yes or no. Why did she give such a long explanation?

Protesting too much?

...Surely not.

And there was no reason to.

After thinking it over for quite some time and coming up with no leads, he drove all the way to the office. Climbing out of the car, a blast of frigid wind hit him, sweeping away all his thoughts.

A silly song isn’t as important as going to work to make money.

"Good morning, Brother Lin."

"Morning."

"Morning."

He entered the office with greetings, took off his scarf and hat, and just as Qin Guanglin was about to sip the hot water he had gotten from the water dispenser, Chen Rui also arrived, plonking down opposite him.

"Why are you here so early today?" Qin Guanglin asked in surprise, grabbing another paper cup and heading back to the water dispenser, "Is everything set up on your end?"

"Set up... Add some cold water for me, don’t make it too hot."

Chen Rui, propping his elbow on the desk and half sprawling over it, looked completely worn out.

Pushing over the lukewarm water mixed with a bit of cold, Qin Guanglin watched as Chen Rui guzzled it down, then asked for another, "One more cup."

After downing three cups in succession, Chen Rui let out a long sigh, "Phew, it really wore me out..."

"What’s happened? You’re so tired, why not go home to rest instead of coming here."

"Rest? I wouldn’t dare."

"What’s being planned now?" Qin Guanglin frowned. The company was in good shape at present, and he truly didn’t want Chen Rui to start messing with all sorts of things.

The guy was always full of crazy ideas, who knows if one day he might run the company into the ground.

"I think you’re the one who’s out of touch." Chen Rui pointed at him with a finger, "Look at the date, less than a week until New Year’s Day, it’ll be 2017, a new year’s coming."

Qin Guanglin understood when Chen Rui mentioned it, holding his cup he said, "Isn’t it just the official launch of the website? I remember it, thought it was something else..."

"This is critical."

They had spent almost the entire year preparing for this moment, and now it was finally time to go live.

Knock, knock, knock.

The office door wasn’t closed, and Yu Le stood at the entrance holding a stack of documents, knocking on the door.

"Come in."

"President Chen, Brother Lin." Yu Le greeted them as he placed the documents on the desk, and couldn’t help but click his tongue silently at the faint dark circles under their eyes.

The big shots were really something else, one a boss and the other a director, yet still working so hard.

I should study one more hour tonight myself, keep it up!

"Are all the people outside here yet?"

Chen Rui called out to Yu Le as he turned to leave.

"Yeah... everyone’s arrived."

"Alright, then let’s have a meeting." He rose from his chair and motioned to Qin Guanglin, "It’s going to be busy."

"Being busy means making money."

Qin Guanglin shrugged as he stood up, looking at his dark circles and said with a chuckle, "I’m just afraid you’ll drop dead suddenly."

"No worries, I’ve got a heart rate monitor that saves my work in time." Chen Rui grinned and lifted his wrist, "I suggest you get one too."
