Chapter 168: Chapter 166: My Wife and My Wife

Qin Guanglin closed the door as he left to fulfill Qin’s Mom’s request to bring He Fang over. Qin’s Mom sat in her seat for a while, her mind ticking, and then she hastened her pace of eating.

She still had to go out and buy something for her – probably something from the clinic. She’d have to check that out later.

He Fang’s place was just a short walk away, and in a few minutes, Qin Guanglin had reached it, climbed the stairs, and walked into the apartment. He Fang was in the kitchen, wrapped in an apron, cutting vegetables and preparing herself a meal.

The vegetables were from what Qin Guanglin had bought in the morning; there were quite a few, so she’d only fried half at lunch and saved the rest for dinner.

"Let me do it; I didn’t cook today," Qin Guanglin went over and hugged her, then took off her apron to wear it himself, taking over the knife to practice his knife skills.

"Thanks," He Fang looked up and pecked him on the cheek, not objecting, and turned to rest on the sofa, "You finished dinner so quickly?"

"Mhm, all done. My mom said she’d drop by in a bit; she has something to tell you."

"What does she want to say?" Her curiosity was piqued. Could it be about that strawberry?

Surely not...

"How would I know? Maybe she wants to tell you not to turn into a giant mosquito and bite me."

"Did she say anything when she saw your neck?"

"Yeah, she did." When Qin Guanglin saw that she brought it up, he went along, "She asked when you were gonna take me to your place. I said within the next couple of months... Didn’t you say you were going home for the summer holiday? Have you figured out when?"

"Is that all?" He Fang asked.

"Pretty much... When are you taking me home to meet your father-in-law?" Qin Guanglin continued to ask.

He had long since earned the requisite hundred thousand beans, and though his cooking skills weren’t perfect yet, he could make do with some simple home cooking; all it needed was a bit more practice. He was eager to meet his father-in-law for a heartfelt chat.

"Your father-in-law went back to his hometown to escape the heat, and only my brother and sister-in-law are home. Want to go?" He Fang didn’t argue with him calling her father "father-in-law," playing along with the conversation.

"Ah?"

When Qin Guanglin heard her response, he paused his chopping, turned around, and asked, "When is he coming back?"

"Probably when it’s not so hot."

"Oh." He sounded a bit let down as he turned back to continue chopping. After a few cuts, he spoke up again, "What did you do after I came over yesterday? Tell me about it."

"I just slept in bed, what else?" He Fang leaned back lazily on the sofa, watching him, "You were as dead drunk as a guinea pig, sprawled on my bed without moving. Later, I gave you a bit of a wipe down, and we slept together."

"My mom said she heard me calling you ’my wife.’ Is that true?"

"... Oh right, you were talking in your sleep, and she just happened to hear it."

"I feel like you’re not telling the truth." Qin Guanglin squinted suspiciously at He Fang. Seeing her gaze back unfazed, he finally turned to keep busy, "Anything else? Don’t wait for me to say it before you do. Come clean, what else did you do?"

"That’s it, really. What else would I do? You think I’m like you? If I’d gotten as drunk as you... Yikes, you wouldn’t believe the trouble I’d be in." He Fang made a disgusted face, "Shameless."

"You and drinking beer..."

"Just hypothetically, okay? I would never. It tastes awful; I don’t get what’s so great about it."

"Okay, hypothetically, if you got drunk..." Qin Guanglin turned and looked her over, his eyes finally landing on her little feet, "Hehehehe..."

"Don’t even think about it." He Fang quickly tucked her feet away, "Stop being so creepy. What’s so fun about feet?"

"So definitely don’t drink."

Qin Guanglin was just teasing her to make sure she wouldn’t get curious and go on a drinking binge one of these days.

Tiny feet might not be fun, but he really wanted to pinch them, and her reactions were amusing... Hehe, he’d have to find another opportunity to give them a pinch.

Dinner was just for He Fang, so there was only a simple dish, but Qin Guanglin rummaged through the fridge, found some tomatoes and eggs, and added a plate of scrambled eggs with tomatoes for her—cooking them up with a sizzle before serving.

"I can’t eat all this, you should have some more," He Fang said, holding a full bowl of rice to persuade him.

"I had plenty at home; I’m not hungry."

Qin Guanglin sat across from her, shaking his head and watching her take small bites of her food, feeling a sense of satisfaction.

Such simple daily moments had an indescribable sense of happiness, not intense, but able to seep into the heart.

"Your cooking skills have improved, not bad."

"I’ve told you to come over for dinner. When you’re alone, there are just two dishes. If I didn’t come, you’d only have one. It’s not as good as eating together."

Compared to the present, Qin Guanglin preferred eating with three people; it had a sense of home, which was very comforting.

"I like it, I’m willing," He Fang glanced at him provocatively, taunting, "You gonna hit me, huh?"

"..."

"Hit me then."

"Let’s just eat."

"Hmph," He Fang snickered as she picked up a piece of egg with her chopsticks, "Open up."

After feeding Qin Guanglin a bite, she sucked on her chopsticks and continued to eat, "I knew you wouldn’t bear to hit me, so don’t nag so much, or you might as well pick me up and give me a beating."

"One of these days, I’ll string you up and lash you with a whip to see if you’re still so cocky," Qin Guanglin spoke toughly, but he couldn’t help picturing the scene and laughed, "And I’ll have to strip..."

"You dare?!" He Fang stared, "I should whip you instead."

"You’re such a pervert."

"Aren’t you one too?"

Qin Guanglin shrugged his shoulders, stood up, and poured her a cup of water, "Drink some water, don’t choke."

The egg she just ate was a bit salty; she wasn’t sure if the salt hadn’t dissolved or if it was just too much.

He Fang finished the rice in her bowl and set down her chopsticks, wiping her mouth before getting herself another half bowl of rice and placing it in front of Qin Guanglin, "Since there’s so much food, you’re in charge of finishing it. I’m full."

She always had confidence in Qin Guanglin’s appetite; even if he was full, he could still shove down two more bowls. She wondered what kind of stomach he had.

"Really full?" Qin Guanglin asked.

"Really full, I ate so much."

"Then I’ll finish it."

At home, he was influenced by Qin’s Mom; he truly wasn’t too full. Initially, he refused because he was worried He Fang wouldn’t have enough, but now that she was full, he could eat another meal just right.

He took the chopsticks and rice He Fang had put down and, without further ado, quickly finished off the remaining dishes. Grasping the cup of water she handed him, he drank it down in one breath before letting out a long sigh of relief.

Now, he really was full.

"Should we go to your place now, or rest a bit before going?" asked He Fang as she washed the empty bowls and plates in the kitchen in two minutes and shook her hands dry returning to ask.

"Let’s go now, and take a walk. Later we can just go jogging."

Qin Guanglin sat on the couch with a cup of water, drinking again. The scrambled eggs with tomatoes weren’t due to undissolved salt; they really had been a bit too salty. He Fang didn’t change her expression as she ate half the plate, which must have been tough for her.

"Alright, then wait for me to get changed."

He Fang went into the bedroom and closed the door. When she came back out, she was dressed in sportswear, casually tying her hair into a ponytail and flicking it, "Let’s go, see what Auntie wants to talk to me about."

"Probably nothing important, probably just small talk."

"Maybe she wants to betroth you to me, hehe, give you away to me, let you be my wife."

He Fang spoke joyfully as she looped her arm through Qin Guanglin’s, and they headed down the stairs together.

"You’re my wife, remember your status."

"You should remember your status, my wife."

The night breeze blew as the two of them wandered down the road, chatting idly like a young married couple.
