Chapter 122: Finding the Right Person Is Important
Chapter 122: Chapter 122: Finding the Right Person Is Important
"Before we met, each of us was cultivating our own paths, not to reach the other shore but to find each other; each of us was traveling, not to find ourselves but to encounter one another."
After the movie ended, Qin Guanglin held He Fang in his arms, staying silent in quiet contemplation.
He reflected on the story and dialogue of the movie, feeling grateful as well as contemplative.
Grateful he had already met Teacher He, contemplative because not everyone is blessed with such good fortune.
Finding the right person is truly difficult, so one must cherish them all the more.
Feeling the air conditioning turning a bit chilly, Qin Guanglin grabbed the remote to turn up the temperature a few degrees, then pulled over a thin blanket to cover both of them, "Let’s go to my house for dinner tonight."
"Mhm, okay," He Fang nodded.
"I’m going to rest for a bit, if I fall asleep remember to wake me up." He wrapped his arms around He Fang tighter, feeling like he was holding a very big, soft, warm treasure that inexplicably brought peace to the mind, making one want to close their eyes and rest.
"Maybe we should set an alarm, I’d like to rest for a while too," He Fang yawned lazily and snuggled deeper into his embrace.
It was already past three in the afternoon, and if both fell asleep, they might oversleep without realizing it.
The weekend was passing too quickly, it felt as if they had barely done anything and it was already coming to an end.
Qin Guanglin stretched his hand to grab his phone and set an alarm for five o’clock to go grocery shopping, and to be back by six to start cooking would be perfect. After setting the alarm, he placed the phone aside. The two bundled up, holding each other tight, closed their eyes, and quickly fell into a steady breathing rhythm, fast asleep.
Summer days are short, and the hot weather can be exhausting both physically and mentally, making a nap essential to recharge one’s energy, but it can’t be too long or it’ll leave one feeling even sleepier.
Qin Guanglin was okay; as soon as the alarm sounded, he immediately opened his eyes to turn it off, then stared at the ceiling for a moment to fully wake up, while He Fang, who loved to sleep in, just turned over and smacked her lips, continuing to sleep soundly.
"Wake up, it’s time to get up," Qin Guanglin whispered as he gently shook her by the ear.
He Fang curled up into a ball, murmuring twice to indicate she heard.
"..."
The air conditioner had made the room a bit dry. Qin Guanglin walked around the bed, poured a glass of water and gulped it down. He then filled another cup and left it at the side for He Fang, before turning back to look at her and approached to wake her up the right way.
This time, He Fang was in a deep sleep, and it took quite a while for her to be woken up. Taking the cup Qin Guanglin handed her, she drank the water down in one go, licked her lips, and sat on the bed for a while before fully recovering her senses.
"If it weren’t for you, my routine would be ruined," He Fang acknowledged her self-awareness.
Already prone to low blood sugar, plus the habits of a lone life in the past, if she lived alone, she would likely fall into a pattern of not sleeping at night and not getting up during the day.
"It’s okay, I’m happy to wake you up," Qin Guanglin said with a cheerful face. He thoroughly enjoyed that feeling of Teacher He slowly waking up from unconscious sleep—no response at the beginning, occasionally stirring out of instinct, and finally waking up to interact actively. He found the entire process delightful.
"If only it were a bit more gentle," He Fang stretched and got up from the bed, as long as he liked it, that’s all that mattered — this was hardly a big deal and certainly better than being jerked awake by the arm.
"Come, let me help you put them on."
Qin Guanglin fetched her socks and shoes, kneeling on the ground, the picture of eager servitude.
What did it matter if it was unmanly? Watching He Fang wash dishes at noon, he had completely resigned himself to his fate.
He would not let Teacher He do anything he could do himself.
"I can do it myself," He Fang retracted her feet, refusing to let him touch.
"Come on, I’m already kneeling down."
"..."
He Fang hesitated for a moment, looking at his serious expression as she slowly extended her leg, "We agreed, if you’re going to help me put them on, do it properly, no pinching, otherwise..."
Before she could finish, Qin Guanglin had already grabbed her foot and slipped the sock on, carefully adjusting the edge before moving on to put a short sock on her other foot. Then he picked up her shoes, loosened the laces, and guided her feet into them.
He Fang looked up at the ceiling, her lips pressed tightly together, until both shoes were on and she could finally relax, happily hopping to the ground to give him a hug, "This is great."
As long as he didn’t pinch, this feeling of being pampered by him was quite fantastic.
It was like having a personal guard to take care of a princess. What woman hasn’t fantasized about such things when she was a little girl?
It’s just that her feet are too sensitive; otherwise, she’d let him help her every day with taking off her shoes, washing her feet, drying them, and tending to her needs from start to finish.
"All right, let’s go."
Qin Guanglin, feeling a sense of reward for his efforts, turned off the air conditioner, shut down the computer, gathered his keys, and led her out, "Let’s buy groceries, see what we want to eat... One of these days, we’ll ask the landlord to get you a fridge, so you don’t have to go buy groceries every day."
"Let’s talk about it later, daily shopping keeps things fresher," He Fang cheerfully linked arms with him as they went downstairs, not wanting to think about those troublesome matters for the time being.
Their relationship had progressed many times faster than she had anticipated. To say that she was giving him the best romance, but then, isn’t romance a matter for two?
What she was getting was also the best.
After grocery shopping, Qin Guanglin carried all the bags home, and He Fang didn’t have to pretend to take any of them. She naturally greeted Qin’s Mom and then dived into the kitchen to start working with Qin Guanglin.
Qin’s Mom leaned on the sofa, watching them go from the door to the kitchen, the joy clearly lighting up their faces, which made her smile too. She wanted to head to the kitchen door to take another look but after hesitating, remained seated, thinking this was not the right time to be a third wheel.
Since Qin Guanglin first brought He Fang home, he had been spending more and more time out of the house. He used to be a homebody, but now, almost every weekend, he was hardly seen at home.
Thinking of this, Qin’s Mom tsked, glancing over at the kitchen once more with a touch of relief mixed with a trace of melancholy.
After raising a "pig" for more than twenty years, it finally "knocked down a cabbage," and now it seemed as though the "cabbage" was about to run away with it?
"Here, you do it, I’ll direct from the side," He Fang said with her arms folded, preparing to teach Qin Guanglin how to cook.
"I know how, I just lack practice."
Qin Guanglin had grasped the essence of cooking; as long as the dish came out okay, that counted as cooking—after all, the process was the same, and whether it tasted good boiled down to proficiency.
"Won’t I get proficient faster under your guidance?"
"That’s true..." Qin Guanglin nodded, accepting her guidance.
He Fang simply washed the vegetables and did nothing else, leaving the rest to Qin Guanglin alone; she aimed to train him into a half-decent chef.
Why half-decent? Because having half her skill level would be enough, the rest would come with practice.
"Pour less oil, this dish doesn’t need much, too much makes it greasy."
"Add more salt, even more, this dish needs to be flavorful, it’s the same as none if it’s too little."
"Don’t use dark soy sauce for this, it’s too dark, use light soy sauce."
He Fang rolled her eyes watching Qin Guanglin’s clumsy attempts, almost wanting to grab his ear and ask what he meant by ’knowing it all, just lacking practice’.
What a load of crap.
