Chapter 102: Mutual Surveillance
Chapter 102: Chapter 102: Mutual Surveillance
"Can you do that flip?"
After sitting quietly on the swing for a while, He Fang’s gaze drifted to a horizontal bar a few meters away.
"Like Xu Sanduo?" Qin Guanglin hesitated for a moment, unsure, "I’ll try."
Back in college, he could do several flips, but now he wasn’t sure if he still had the ability.
He Fang looked at him skeptically, "Don’t try too hard. What if you fall?"
"Underestimating me."
He stood up, handed his cell phone and wallet to He Fang, and loosened up his body, preparing to try flipping.
He reached out, pulled himself up... and couldn’t make it.
Letting go awkwardly and turning around, he caught He Fang’s barely suppressed smile. Qin Guanglin’s temper flared, "I was just testing the waters. Now I’m serious."
"Come back now."
"Watch closely."
He grasped the bar and jumped up, struggling mightily and then helplessly fell down, "Alright, I really can’t do it."
"I was just saying it casually." He Fang swayed leisurely on the swing, "I’ve seen Zhou Nan do it before, she could spin several rounds."
"Your roommate?" Qin Guanglin recalled the tall, slim girl he had met once under her dormitory, exuding a spirited air.
"Yeah, you’ve met." He Fang nodded, "She’s amazing, she’s the president of the Sanda club."
"Indeed impressive."
Sanda club president... Qin Guanglin figured he probably couldn’t beat her.
He needed to find time to exercise more, otherwise he’d be looked down upon.
"Let’s not talk about her. Do you want to go over there? There might be people playing chess, we could watch for a bit."
"No."
Qin Guanglin took back his wallet and cell phone, sat back on the swing, and suddenly slapped his thigh, "Come sit here."
"What are you up to?" He Fang eyed him without moving.
"I can swing us both."
"What if it collapses?"
"It probably won’t." Qin Guanglin vigorously sat a couple of times, pulling on the chains to check, then patted his thigh confidently, "Come on, it’s sturdy."
"No way, how unseemly."
"Then I’ll come sit by you." He pretended to stand up.
"Don’t, I’m coming." Unable to resist him, He Fang reluctantly got up and moved over, "Just don’t swing wildly, go slow."
"Don’t worry, hold on tight."
Qin Guanglin wrapped his arms around her waist and lifted slightly to check the chains’ load. Confident they were secure, he began to swing slowly.
"This is nice." Holding one hand on the chain and the other around He Fang, he contentedly sighed, "It feels like I’ve dreamed of this scene before."
On an early summer afternoon, sitting on a swing with someone you like and enjoying some leisurely time—it felt strangely familiar.
"Really?" He Fang leaned back slightly into his arms and squinted her eyes, "When did you dream that?"
"I don’t know, just one of those fleeting feelings, like déjà vu..." Qin Guanglin thought for a moment and explained, "Many people occasionally feel like they’ve experienced a scene before, that kind of feeling. You must have felt it too, right?"
"Hmm, maybe in a past life you did the same."
"Then that would be great, it means we were together in a past life too." Qin Guanglin laughed, "Or maybe you were my daughter in a past life, and I was swinging you."
"Pah." He Fang kicked her foot against his leg, "You still want to be my dad?"
"Just saying... Do you think there really could be a past life?"
"Probably not."
"I think there might be, otherwise, why would I get this feeling?" Qin Guanglin lowered his head and lightly sniffed her hair, "It often feels somewhat familiar."
"Maybe you did this in your dreams with some woman."
"I’ve only dreamed about you."
"Liar," He Fang huffed, "What did you dream about me?"
"I dreamt about you... uh..." Qin Guanglin faltered, "just dreaming about hanging out with you."
"Let go of me, I’m not sitting anymore." He Fang suddenly stood up, glaring at him, "You’re never honest."
"Ahem..."
Qin Guanglin coughed lightly, quietly sitting for a while before he got up, "Let’s go somewhere else."
Human evolution really isn’t perfect, we can’t perfectly control our bodies and always end up in embarrassing situations that ruin the mood.
Hmm... got to get used to it slowly.
While wandering around the park, He Fang occasionally pulled him over to take photos, this time he didn’t resist at all, even taking initiative to ask for more photos.
Now that I’ve finally gotten a bit more handsome, I should definitely take more photos to remember this by.
Before they realized it, the sun was setting, the light turning into soft orange hues that scattered around, and they circled back to the swing which was now occupied by several children.
"Someone’s there, shall we sit in the pavilion?" Qin Guanglin turned to ask He Fang.
"No need to sit, let’s head back," He Fang shook her head, "We’ve walked around a lot, we can come back another time."
It would require several bus changes from here, and it would be troublesome if they hit rush hour.
"That’s fine."
Qin Guanglin checked the time and walked with her towards the exit, "We’ll be back near the university, just in time for dinner, let’s go have a good meal."
"What kind of good meal?" asked He Fang.
"What would you like to eat?"
"What do you want to take me out for?"
"Anything you want to eat is fine," Qin Guanglin said with a show of his wealth, "Choose anything, let’s eat well."
He Fang glanced at him, "Something good happened?"
"Spent another day with you, isn’t that worth celebrating?"
"What else?"
"That troublesome relative of mine is planning to leave, double happiness," Qin Guanglin’s eyebrows lifted with joy, and after a moment’s thought, he turned to ask her, "The guest room at my place is free now, maybe you could just..."
"No."
"There’s renting a room, right? You can treat it as renting from me, I’ll charge you rent."
"That’s not okay either, how would it look?"
"Alright." Qin Guanglin just mentioned it casually, not really expecting her to agree.
He thought about it, if it was just his mom at home, living there would be no issue, but him living there too would really not look right.
"I’ve seen quite a few rental listings on South Fly Road, I’ll check it out in a couple of days," He Fang told him.
"South Fly Road?"
Qin Guanglin was a bit surprised, "That’s just across the street, great place."
It’s just a short walk from South Fly Road to his house; they could see each other often, even have meals together frequently.
"Yeah, if I find the right spot, I can see you whenever I open the window," He Fang raised her eyebrows playfully, "I’ll buy a telescope to keep an eye on you."
"You keep an eye then, I’ll get a telescope too to watch you."
"Okay... let’s hurry, there’s the bus."
He Fang hurried him along, catching the bus just as it arrived, and after tossing in a couple of coins, they sat down in the back.
"Then when I’m free, I’ll check it out, see which spots are best for keeping an eye out." Qin Guanglin was quite pleased with the area she had chosen.
"I’ll find it myself, just help me move next week."
He Fang leaned on his shoulder, chuckling, "If I catch you bringing any other girls home, I’ll kill you."
"No need, I’d kill myself first."
