Chapter 101: Securing a Seat to Heaven
Chapter 101: Chapter 101: Securing a Seat to Heaven
Two bowls of flat noodles were quickly served, covered with red chili peppers and green vegetables, adorned with spots of red oil and steaming hot, instantly stimulating the appetite.
A clove of garlic lay at the corner of the table, which He Fang had already peeled during the wait, and now she tossed one into Qin Guanglin’s bowl, saying, "Here you go."
"I don’t eat this," Qin Guanglin disdainfully prepared to pick it out.
It wasn’t a big deal to cook with a little garlic, but eating an entire raw clove was something he had never tried and did not want to try.
"Flat noodles without garlic lack soul; just try a bite."
"I won’t try it, it makes your breath stink."
"It won’t stink." He Fang stopped his movement with her chopsticks, "Just eat it."
"..." Qin Guanglin was somewhat speechless, "Why should I eat this?"
"Because I want to eat it," she raised her eyebrows, "so you must eat it too."
"You eat it then, I’m not stopping you."
"When one person eats it, you can smell it, but if two people eat it you won’t notice the smell."
As He Fang spoke, she had already bitten into a piece of garlic, her eyes fixed on him, "Are you going to eat it?"
"I’m not going to complain..." Qin Guanglin wanted to resist some more, but seeing her eyes slowly widen, he grimaced and bit off a small piece, quickly following it up with a few bites of noodles.
Thinking about it, it made some sense; if both were stinky, neither could smell the other’s stink— as if no one had eaten it.
Perfect.
"Are you satisfied now? Now I stink too."
"You’re not stinking, eat all of it." He Fang smiled contentedly, "It’s really tasty, you’ll know once you try."
What started as a first could lead to a second and a third; once begun, she wouldn’t even need to tell him, he’d find it delicious on his own.
The flat noodles came in a large bowl, spicy enough to cause Qin Guanglin to sweat at the nose tip, and after finishing the noodles and drinking some soup, he leaned back on the chair, exhaling in satisfaction.
"Are you full?" He Fang had picked some noodles for him when he was a third of the way done, now she was almost finished too.
"Pretty much, the large bowl is quite substantial," Qin Guanglin said with slight regret, "It’s a pity it’s too far, or else we could eat here often."
"I didn’t lie to you, is it not delicious?"
"It’s the noodles that are tasty, not the garlic."
He felt this detail was crucial, lest she think he had enjoyed the garlic.
"Apparently, once the residential area opposite is completed, a new bus route will be added. By then, it should be more convenient to come from your place," He Fang ignored his protest about garlic, "You can come here to eat whenever you want."
"I mean it’s too far from my office. It would be great if it were located right below my office building, eating set meals every day gets tiresome."
Qin Guanglin felt a bit smug, "At home I cook myself, why should I come here?"
"Look at you, able to cook and all," He Fang placed her chopsticks down and wiped her mouth, then turned towards the cashier with a tilt of her head, "Let’s go pay."
Two bowls of flat noodles were only twenty-two yuan, with two eggs adding up to twenty-five yuan. Qin Guanglin paid promptly, then walked out and opened his umbrella, leisurely strolling with He Fang.
"Where are we heading?" He asked as he noticed He Fang leisurely strolling.
"Just wandering around, look at that school." He Fang pointed to a distance, "I plan to start working there in a couple of months."
Qin Guanglin looked up, seeing the school’s playground through the fence on the wall, with basketball hoops visible inside. Perhaps because it was school hours, the playground was empty without any students.
"Isn’t that too far to go there to teach? There are decent schools in West City and near my home..."
"I have looked into many schools, and this one satisfies me the most," He Fang smiled, "By then, I’ll truly be Teacher He."
"Um..." Qin Guanglin saw she had made up her mind and didn’t advise further. After thinking for a bit, he asked, "Does this mean Classmate Li, Classmate Tian, and Classmate Zhang will also come out?"
"Don’t worry, there’s only one Classmate Qin." He Fang pointed at him a few times with her finger, "Even getting jealous over kids, can you stop being so childish?"
"I just casually asked." Qin Guanglin shrugged indifferently, "Who’s jealous?"
"You just want to hear me say it again?" He Fang gave him a look and took a turn with her feet, "Come on, let’s go relax for a bit."
Qin Guanglin diligently held the umbrella as he followed by her side, occasionally turning his head to look around. If it weren’t for that annoying construction noise, this place would be really nice.
The roadside greenery was even better than on the university town side, and the wide road was quietly shuttled by a flow of cars with no traffic jams; naturally, there were also fewer horn sounds.
"So, about renting an apartment..." Qin Guanglin suddenly became a bit worried. If she worked here and lived here too, meeting up would be more troublesome than when she was in the university dorms.
"Hmm?"
"Nothing." He shook his head, "Renting here is pretty good, convenient for going to and coming from work, and the environment isn’t bad either."
At most, he would just bother himself a bit more and make a few more trips over here.
"Who said I’m going to rent here?" He Fang didn’t know how many turns his thought had taken, "Plus, I haven’t even started working yet."
"That’s true." Qin Guanglin realized he had thought too far ahead, "We’ll wait till you start working to move over."
"You don’t need to worry, Teacher He has it all planned out."
He Fang led him all the way to the park—it should actually be called a botanical garden, full of various flowers and plants, and large green trees. The paths were all covered by lush green leaves, with only fragments of light falling through the gaps, so they didn’t even need the umbrella anymore.
A gentle breeze wafted, taking away much of the heat from their bodies.
"Isn’t this more interesting than shopping?" He Fang strolled along the path, stopping to carefully inspect any pretty flowers she saw.
Qin Guanglin kept looking around, "It is nice. Next time I want to paint landscapes, I can come here to paint."
"Include me too in your painting."
"Sure, but you would have to stand here as a model."
"Forget it, I’d have to stand still for ages." He Fang thought about it and gave up, speeding up to sit on the swing ahead, "Come push me."
"Are you seated well?" Qin Guanglin chuckled and pushed her high, adding a bit more force on the return swing.
"Who told you to push so hard!" He Fang exclaimed, holding down her skirt with one hand, "Push gently."
"It’s more thrilling when you swing high."
Qin Guanglin added force swing by swing, unable not to feel joyful as he watched her skirt flutter, "Hold tight."
"I don’t want you pushing anymore, go away."
Luckily there was no one nearby; He Fang didn’t brake with her feet, letting the swing slow down on its own after he stopped pushing.
"Feels cool, right?" Qin Guanglin sat on another swing, turning his head to look at her.
"It is quite cool. Aren’t you afraid your girlfriend will have a wardrobe malfunction?" He Fang replied, holding down her skirt irritably.
Others had boyfriends gently swaying their girlfriends on swings, but this fool seemed like he wanted her to fly to the sky.
"Uh..." He looked around, "There’s no one here."
"So if there’s no one around, it’s okay to have a wardrobe malfunction?!" He Fang got even more annoyed.
"Okay, my fault." Qin Guanglin admitted honestly, "Next time you can push me, I’m not afraid of having a wardrobe malfunction."
"Who wants to push you, you can sit there yourself."
Absolutely clueless man, absolutely infuriating.
