"What kind of practical action?" Commander Lin asked.

"For example, how about a ’beauty trap’ of sorts!" the Deputy Commander joked. "It’s said that heroes can’t resist beauties since ancient times. Why don’t you get a beauty for real? I think Yingzi from the cultural troupe is not bad—tall and pretty. Why not let her serve as the Staff Officer’s communications soldier?"

While they were talking, they arrived at the headquarters, and the guard got out first to open the car door.

Commander Lin got out and said with a chuckle, "It looks like you’re about to make a mistake! What, aiming to wreck a military marriage?"

The three of them talked and went upstairs.

The communications operator came out of the telephone room, saluted the three leaders with a snap, and then said to Qin Jian, "There was a call from your home just now. He bought a sleeper ticket for the evening train and left overnight. The next afternoon, he got off the train and hurried back to the military compound.

The person who opened the door turned out to be Zhang Yun.

"Mom! I’m back," Qin Jian said as he tossed his luggage on the ground and walked inside, "How are Dad and An Hao? Are they both in the hospital?"

"They’ve both come back." Speaking of the events at home these past few days, Zhang Yun couldn’t help shedding tears. "Jianzi, you have no idea how your mom has managed these few days. Right after you left, so much happened at home, and Xiaoye has been holding the fort. If not for him, I’d have been worried sick. "I’ll go thank you all later. Mom, how are Dad and An Hao doing now?" Qin Jian asked with concern.

"Your dad is okay now. But, your wife’s fever just won’t go down... Go see her. I’ll go to the kitchen and make her something to eat. She hasn’t eaten well for several days and has lost weight," Zhang Yun said before heading to the kitchen.

Qin Jian first looked into his parents’ bedroom to see Ning Yibin, who was sleeping quietly, and without disturbing him, left the room and went upstairs.

In the bedroom upstairs, An Hao lay under the covers, one arm hooked up to an IV, sleeping groggily, totally unaware of his arrival.

Qin Jian gently sat on the edge of the bed and took hold of An Hao’s hand.
