Chapter 829: Chapter 829: Taking Him into the World of Her Memories

They had no shared living environment, didn’t operate in the same area, and he had no recollection of the past at all: his eyes were only for his wife.

She was barred from his world, unable to enter.

"Ms. Cheng, have some vegetables! This is your cooking, you should eat more today," An Hao greeted Cheng Yu enthusiastically.

"Alright. I haven’t cooked in a long time, I don’t know if it’s any good," Cheng Yu said, her gaze shifting to Qin Jian, "Staff Officer Qin, how do you find the dishes I’ve made? Are they palatable?"

"Quite delicious," Qin Jian complimented her.

Although her cooking skills were far inferior to An Hao’s, he praised her to save face.

Cheng Yu’s smile was like that of a young girl of eighteen, her eyes and brows tinged with a light blush: "Staff Officer Qin is really serious! You remind me of someone. This person has always been vague and unclear in my memory, but today, after coming into close contact with you, a surge of memory suddenly burst into my blank mind. Ever since the head injury, I have mostly forgotten the past, and I thought I would continue to forget, but I never imagined that those memories forgotten in my mind would come back to life."

"Your head was injured?" An Hao remembered what Cheng Yue had told her, mentioning that Cheng Yu’s condition was very serious and that she could... at any time.

"Yes," Cheng Yu decided to reveal that part of the past, to tell it to the man before her, "After the China-Vietnam War broke out in ’79, I went to the battlefield as a medic. There I met a company commander, I think he was from the reconnaissance company; he had an arm injury and dug the bullet out without any anesthetics. Later, I vaguely remember a shell exploding before my eyes; if he hadn’t leapt forward, I might have been dead..."

Before Cheng Yu could finish, An Hao interjected: "What about the commander who saved you? Was it then that you were wounded?"

"He fell into a pool of blood, and countless times I tried to find him, hoping to thank him for his life-saving grace. But I never got the chance again; in a battle, two bullets penetrated my head. One was removed, but the other still remains in my brain. It’s this bullet that presses on my nerve, causing my vision to blur often and giving me frequent headaches," Cheng Yu said softly, her eyes already reddening, "The war has caused me too much harm. Bearing so much pain, I still strive to live, hoping in my lifetime to see that commander again, to thank him in person."

"Ms. Cheng, you are crying," An Hao quickly passed a handkerchief over, "Wipe your tears."

Cheng Yu took the handkerchief, her gaze turning to Qin Jian.

His gaze was indifferent, as if his face showed no emotion.

Cheng Yu was stunned; she had made her point so clear, could it be that Qin Jian still remembered nothing at all?

Could it be that, in that battle, his brain had been shocked?

Causing memory damage?

Cheng Yu’s mind slowly pondered over this matter, her thoughts becoming as chaotic as porridge.

This wasn’t the effect she wanted.

She thought she would at least hear Qin Jian say, "That commander is me!"

That way, in the future, she could naturally make contact with him and discuss both the past and the future!

"Ms. Cheng!" An Hao’s words suddenly interrupted Cheng Yu’s thoughts, "Is that commander who saved your life the same man you’ve always loved in your heart?"
