Qin Jian pushed the door open and saw the table inside already filled with dishes. An Hao and Cheng Yu were sitting by the table waiting for him to eat.

Seeing Qin Jian return, Cheng Yu stood up with a smile spreading across her face, a radiant smile blooming, "Staff Officer Qin! You’re back!"

"Teacher Cheng," Qin Jian nodded slightly as a gesture of acknowledgment.

"It’s pretty sunny outside, isn’t it?" An Hao walked up to him, naturally taking his military cap to hang it and handing him a towel, "Wipe off your sweat first, then wash your hands and have dinner."

"Okay," Qin Jian’s eyes brimmed with a smile as he watched his diligent and virtuous little wife, feeling lucky to have married her.

Cheng Yu observed all the subtle changes in Qin Jian’s expression, her gaze gradually darkening.

His manner towards her was polite and organized, but with An Hao, it was affectionate and natural, like sweetness was about to drip out.

Qin Jian went to the restroom and realized there was no soap, casually calling out, "Wife, where did you put the soap? Bring me a bar."

"Okay," An Hao fetched a bar of soap from the bedroom drawer and handed it over, about to leave when Qin Jian grabbed her, "What are you doing?"

Without a word, Qin Jian bent down and kissed An Hao on the lips, "It’s really hard work to cook so many dishes in such hot weather."

"The dishes weren’t made by me, they were cooked by Teacher Cheng," An Hao said with a smile, "I only helped a little. Come and try later, see how the teacher’s cooking is?"

"Do I even need to say it? It certainly won’t compare to my wife’s cooking," Qin Jian said with a raised eyebrow and a smile.

An Hao blushed with joy at his praise, stood on tiptoe, and wrapped her arms around his neck, leaning in to peck a kiss on his cheek, "That’s a reward for your sweet talk."

"I’d like a lot more of that reward."

"It depends on how you behave," An Hao said laughing as she ran out.

Cheng Yu heard every detail of the couple’s intimacy in the restroom; although she couldn’t see their actions, she could perfectly imagine their appearance and expressions.

If it wasn’t for that damned bullet!

She wouldn’t have been separated from Qin Jian for so long before meeting him again!

If it hadn’t been for that damned bullet, maybe she would be the one being sweet with Qin Jian in the restroom today, not An Hao!

Eight years ago, she left in such a hurry that fate didn’t even give her the chance to show herself to Qin Jian! Destiny was so harsh and ruthless to her!

Cheng Yu’s heart was tumultuous, but her eyes were calm and still.

Once both husband and wife were seated at the dinner table, her face maintained a proper smile, "You and your husband are really affectionate."

With a Yanran smile and happiness swirling in her dimples, An Hao said, "Teacher Cheng, you should hurry up and find a good man to marry! Then you will taste this sweetness that’s even better than honey."

Cheng Yu’s eyelids dropped, her smile tinged with bitterness, "No, that won’t happen. I’ll spend my life just like this if I can’t wait for the one in my heart."

Stunned, An Hao said, "Teacher Cheng, you really are devoted."

Cheng Yu chuckled softly, "There’s a saying, ’once you’ve seen the ocean, all else is mere stream.’ I think you understand the meaning of that phrase, but can’t grasp the feeling. A mere glimpse was enough to leave a lasting impression for me to savor for a lifetime."

"I admire you," An Hao said, moved by her sentiments, and then raised her cup, "Let’s not talk about that, cheers to Teacher Cheng’s arrival!"

Their three cups clinked together, and that crisp sound also struck Cheng Yu’s heart.

She now doubted her contemplation of the phrase, wondering if it was appropriate for the current Qin Jian who knew nothing of her past.
