Chapter 587: Chapter 587: Becoming Someone as Outstanding as Him

The next evening, as the train arrived at the station, An Hao, dragging her suitcase, alighted with Gu Shuangshuang.

Ning Yibin’s aide was there to pick them up. Seeing An Hao, he stepped forward to take her luggage and also helped Gu Shuangshuang with hers.

"The Commander is feeling a bit unwell, so he sent me to pick you and your friend up."

"What’s wrong with him? He didn’t mention it on the phone," An Hao asked worriedly.

"It’s the old problem," the aide said. "It’s his heart that’s troubling him."

An Hao sighed. It was such a troubling issue.

Her own mother had died of heart disease, and An Hao had viewed the condition with the same wariness one might reserve for a natural disaster. It was then that the seed of her desire to study medicine had sprouted.

Upon hearing that Ning Yibin’s heart was troubling him, Gu Shuangshuang decided not to disturb An Hao’s family anymore.

When they left the station, she bought some fruit and asked An Hao to give it to Ning Yibin on her behalf. Then she took a car back to school on her own.

An Hao returned home and, as soon as she entered, Zhang Yun came out to greet her.

"An Hao, are you tired from the journey? Put your luggage down and rest upstairs for a while, I’ll call you when dinner’s ready."

"Mom, I’m not tired," An Hao said, washing her face, then went into the kitchen where Zhang Yun was stir-frying with sweat on her forehead. She gently pushed her aside, "You rest, let me do it."

"This child..." Zhang Yun felt a sweet sense of pride. Although her daughter-in-law was young, she was incredibly competent.

She casually grabbed two tomatoes and started slicing them, preparing to make a sugar-tossed tomato dish.

"I heard from the aide that Dad’s heart is acting up," An Hao said while stir-frying. "How is he now? Is he resting in the bedroom?"

Zhang Yun shook her head: "No. Yan Ye is examining him."

"Teacher Yan?" An Hao had overheard before the holiday that Yan Ye had taken a medical team to the grassroots. It seemed he had returned.

"Yes. He’s an expert in cardiology," Zhang Yun said while busy with the preparations. "I heard from Qin Jian that you also want to become a cardiac surgeon. If that’s the case, you should learn earnestly from Yan Ye."

"Mom, don’t worry. I will study hard," An Hao said as she efficiently finished stir-frying the dish and dished it out.

Zhang Yun nodded, reassured.

Once dinner was ready, Yan Ye came out with a medical bag on his back, accompanied by Ning Yibin. He was momentarily startled to see An Hao had returned.

In a little over a month, she had blossomed, and an inadvertent sense of happiness radiated from the corners of her eyes and brows.

"Teacher Yan," An Hao greeted him with a smile.

"You’re back. How was your trip to the Northwest?" Yan Ye’s smile was gentle, devoid of his usual aloof manner.

"It was good. Teacher Yan, I heard you’ve been busy during the holidays, taking a medical team to the grassroots?" An Hao asked.

"It wasn’t exactly a medical team. It included a few of my students who are about to graduate. I took them out to gain more exposure—it’s helpful," Yan Ye replied.

She was young and unencumbered by romance, so she fully committed herself to her medical career.

"I really admire you, Teacher Yan," An Hao said sincerely.

Yan Ye smiled faintly and said to An Hao, "You are very talented. With diligent study, you’ll become an exceptional surgeon."

"I hope to become a doctor like you, Teacher Yan!"

"You will be even better than me," Yan Ye believed An Hao possessed that strength.

Ning Yibin, having heard this, felt very gratified. His daughter-in-law had received affirmation from Professor Yan, and it reflected well on him too: "Yan Ye, in the future, this child will still need a lot of your guidance at school."
