Chapter 1202: Chapter 1202: Do you think she is suitable?
The second batch of victims arrived, and after a whole day of search and rescue, another group of people were retrieved from the rubble and debris.
They have been distributed to various nearby hospitals.
An Hao silently counted the number of injured patients that had arrived, and quickly estimated in her mind – there were just enough doctors to go around, meaning she could leave now.
"Let’s go." An Hao slung her arm through Qin Jian’s and headed toward the stairs in the corridor.
At that moment, agonizing cries of pain suddenly emanated from the wards, and a nurse shouted urgently in the hallway, "Doctor!! Is there any doctor left?!"
The duty room was empty; no one was available to attend to the wards anymore.
"Qin Jian, wait for me here, I’ll take a quick look." An Hao let go of Qin Jian’s arm and hurried to the wards, although as an intern she wasn’t allowed to practice medicine independently without a certification, but the urgency of the situation now left no room for concern about that.
Besides, it wasn’t the first time she had bent the rules.
Upon arriving at the ward, she saw a patient on the bed clutching his stomach, writhing in pain, drenched in sweat, almost fainting from the agony.
An Hao pulled out the case card at the head of his bed and glanced at it; it read "chronic cholelithiasis."
He had been scheduled for surgery to remove the stones the next day, but unexpectedly, his condition had shifted from chronic to acute, causing him unbearable pain.
"We need emergency surgery!" An Hao declared.
The nurse looked at An Hao uncertainly and said, "All the doctors from General Surgery are already in the operating rooms, and they won’t be out for quite a while. Also, there’s no operating room available right now."
"Consult with the Dean! Have him allocate some resources," An Hao commanded the nurse to do what needed to be done.
"Would the Dean be in at this time?" the nurse worried, it was almost 1 in the morning, and the Dean might have already gone home, right?
"Just call! I’m sure he’s there!" The entire city of Nancheng and the whole country were paying attention to this incident; hospitals in Nancheng and all departments were working around the clock.
As the Dean, his responsibility was even greater; even if he wasn’t in the operating rooms, he certainly wouldn’t leave.
"Okay." The junior nurse, following her instruction, quickly called the Dean’s office to explain the situation.
"What did he say?" An Hao asked.
"The Dean said he will come down and make arrangements," the nurse replied.
Qin Jian approached then and asked An Hao, "Can we leave now?"
"Wait a bit longer! Let’s see how the Dean plans to handle things. If he manages everything, then we can leave."
"Okay," Qin Jian agreed.
Although he was worried about his wife being overtired, as a military man, he fully understood An Hao’s feelings at the moment.
He decided to stay with his wife until she was ready to go home, no matter how long it took.
The Dean came down and, after a quick review of the resources in each department, found that the cardiac surgery department wasn’t very busy tonight, and the doctor on duty was Ma Mei.
She had spent a significant amount of time in General Surgery before moving to cardiac, and this case was something she could help with.
Ma Mei quickly made her way down from the upper floor.
"This is a case of a patient with cholecystitis, who has gone from chronic to acute, and needs immediate surgery. You’ll lead this surgery. Let us know what you need, and don’t hesitate to ask," the Dean briefly informed her of the situation and checked if she had any requests.
"We’re short on staff. Our department also conducted surgeries all day, and everyone has just dispersed. We’ll need additional personnel if we’re going to operate," Ma Mei stated. The hospital had already far exceeded its intake capacity today.
The hospital was operating at full capacity now.
The Dean glanced at An Hao by his side and said, "How about her? Do you think she can still handle it?"
