Chapter 1146: Chapter 1146: Unreasonable
Yan Ye had always wanted to visit An Hao, but recently the school and the department had been too busy; he couldn’t even make it home these days.
"There’s nothing seriously wrong with my body," An Hao said with a smile. "I’m probably just too tired; some rest should do the trick."
Yan Ye gently furrowed his brow, "You’re absolutely right. Ji Chuan is indeed a workaholic, demanding that students be as strict as himself. If you feel you can’t cope, I can talk to him for you."
No sooner had he finished speaking, than Ji Chuan walked over and his eyes lit up immediately when he saw An Hao.
"You’re here? You’ve been looking well lately. Ready to start work again?"
"Mhm," An Hao nodded.
"It’s great you’re back," Ji Chuan said, then handed An Hao a stack of folders, "Seven surgeries today, two big ones, five small ones, you’ll come with me... And for this surgery, you’ll work on the plan. I’ll let you lead the operation."
"Is this appropriate?" An Hao was very pleased to have the opportunity to operate. Isn’t this what every surgeon waits for? "But, I’m just an intern, this isn’t according to protocol... "
JI Chuan confidently stated, "In General Surgery, I am the protocol. I believe in you! Every doctor has started with an internship. You must work hard and push yourself!"
"Okay," An Hao agreed.
"By the way, this week is going to be quite busy, so prepare yourself mentally," Ji Chuan advised.
"Are you trying to work my student to death?" Yan Ye asked, frowning.
"Professor Yan, do you think our General Surgery is the same as your Cardiothoracic Surgery? Do you know how many patients the emergency department brings us every day? All sorts of medical cases keep coming in; I’m on my feet in surgery from morning and can’t step off until night. I’m human, not steel; I get tired too."
"An Hao, do you think there’s any problem with you?" Yan Ye decided to still ask for An Hao’s own opinion.
If it had been before, An Hao would have said there was no problem without hesitation.
The opportunity was rare, and even if it meant gritting her teeth, she would have to endure it.
But now it was different, she couldn’t risk her health, especially since she was going to be a mother.
She had to be responsible for the life inside her.
"Director Ji, could I possibly have a lighter workload...?" An Hao tentatively asked.
"Of course not!" Ji Chuan decisively refused An Hao’s request. "Experience needs to be accumulated in large amounts to quickly become a skilled surgeon! Besides, our surgery department is short-staffed. With your level, you need to do more. Let the capable take on more work."
"I..." An Hao hesitated, unsure whether to tell him about her pregnancy.
Yan Ye then said, "If it really becomes too much, don’t force yourself."
"Disagree." Ji Chuan stated almost callously, "You don’t protect your students like this! After all, interns are the same everywhere! I can lead her seriously in her studies, but I cannot afford her any special treatment beyond that."
"So you refuse to even take care of your students’ health?" Yan Ye disapproved of his dictatorship.
"I didn’t say we wouldn’t take care of them, but they must give their all," Ji Chuan replied and then looked at his watch. "I have a surgery to prepare for immediately. An Hao, finish up with him quickly and come to the OR with me."
With that, he turned and strode away.
"This guy can sometimes be quite insensitive! I just don’t know if you can handle it?" Yan Ye looked at An Hao with some concern.
He knew An Hao very well; she never bragged.
She was always serious about doing her job well.
