Chapter 1099: Chapter 1099: Lying

Upon hearing this, An Ping felt that the crying was so familiar.

"Why do I feel like it’s Niu Shanshan’s voice?" Earlier at the ground floor, I also ran into Niu Shanshan’s cousin. He said she lives on the third floor. Could it be such a coincidence that she lives right next door?

With An Ping’s remark, Erzhuzi also felt it was similar, "The voice indeed resembles hers, but how could Niu Shanshan be here?"

"If you think it sounds like her, it probably is. I’m going to knock on the door and see," said An Ping, who then went to knock on the neighbor’s door.

The door creaked open.

Standing in front of An Ping was none other than Niu Shanshan.

"An Ping?"

"Niu Shanshan?"

Both of them were momentarily stunned.

An Ping was the first to recover and asked, "Why are you crying?"

Niu Shanshan quickly wiped her tears, invited An Ping into the room, and frantically thought of an excuse, "It’s nothing. I’m just feeling a bit upset."

"Where are you feeling upset? Talk to me!" Seeing Niu Shanshan’s tearful appearance, An Ping felt a pang of heartache and embraced her.

Niu Shanshan struggled and pushed An Ping away, "Why are you here?"

"I came to see my sister! Her family lives right here in this military compound." An Ping pulled a handkerchief from his pocket and handed it to Niu Shanshan to wipe her tears. His gaze swept across the table, and he noticed a bottle of opened liquor, "I wondered why there was a smell of alcohol when I came in. Have you been drinking?"

Niu Shanshan’s tears fell once more, leaving An Ping at a loss for what to do.

"What’s really going on?"

Niu Shanshan kept crying and refused to speak.

It wasn’t that she didn’t want to speak, but that she just couldn’t.

She couldn’t explain the situation to An Ping.

She and the warrior loved each other, but because her family was poor and couldn’t afford a dowry, her mother vehemently forced them to break up.

However, in a moment of passion, they both gave in to temptation.

Now she was pregnant.

She told her family, hoping her parents would agree to their marriage.

To her dismay, her family decided to take her to the hospital for an abortion.

Having no other choice, she fled to the military.

Under the guise of visiting relatives, she temporarily stayed in this military recruitment center.

She and her boyfriend had talked that night, but there was no resolution to the issue.

The young warrior took out the money he had saved over half a year and gave it to her, suggesting she get an abortion and find another man to live with.

She loved him and, if they couldn’t be together, she still hoped to keep the child.

But no matter who she married, it was unlikely that anyone would want to take on a child as an extra burden.

And as for a woman pregnant before marriage, she would be the talk of the town, branded with disgrace, and even if she married, it would have to be done in secret.

Her parents were envious of the An Family’s successful business and coveted their money.

Moreover, An Ping was especially fond of her, which further solidified her parents’ determination to marry her off to An Ping.

How could she discuss any of this with An Ping?

"If you have been wronged, I’ll go and take action for you! If your family is in trouble, just tell me! Shanshan, please, can you just talk? You’re nearly driving me crazy," he implored.

After sobbing for a while, Niu Shanshan calmed down and thought of an excuse, "My mother is sick, the family is short on money for treatment. I came to ask my cousin for a loan, but didn’t manage to get much. When I think about my family’s financial state, I just can’t help crying!"

Upon hearing Niu Shanshan’s explanation, An Ping let out a long sigh of relief, "I thought it was something serious. Money issues are easy to solve, how much do you need? I’ll give it to you."
