An Hao was now pregnant and couldn’t overexert herself.

"I’ve been cooped up all day, I can’t lose my freedom of movement just because I’m pregnant, can I?" she protested discontentedly.

Seeing his wife so determined, Qin Jian could only let her have her way.

Worried she might catch a cold, he took a thick scarf from the coat rack and wrapped her up tightly, only her eyes were visible.

A young soldier came down from upstairs. As he passed by the entrance, An Ping thought he looked familiar.

"Cousin!" An Ping quickly walked a few steps to catch up and patted the young soldier on the shoulder from behind. When he turned around, An Ping lit up, "Cousin, it really is you, isn’t it?"

The young soldier’s expression became momentarily uncomfortable when he saw An Ping, "You’re... Shanshan’s boyfriend, right?"

"Yes! We met during the New Year! What are you doing here? Has Shanshan come to visit?" An Ping inquired.

"Yes... yes," the young soldier nodded, "She’s staying on the third floor. You can drop by to see her when you have time."

"Sure. Cousin, when do you have time? Let’s have a meal together," An Ping warmly invited.

Upon hearing the invitation, the young soldier fled as if to escape, "You guys eat! I’ve got things to do! Take good care of Shanshan for me."

Qin Jian and An Hao had completed their registration for accommodation. When they came out, they saw An Ping talking to a young soldier, not knowing what they were discussing.

It was too dark outside for An Hao to make out the features of the other person clearly.

When An Ping came back inside, An Hao asked him, "Who were you talking to just now? Do you know someone in the military?"

"My girlfriend’s cousin," An Ping answered truthfully.

"Cousin? Let’s call him to dine with us sometime! I want to meet your girlfriend’s family members beforehand and assess their characters. It can also reflect on her character," If their character was not up to par, certainly they could not accept such a person to marry An Ping.

"Alright. We’ll see when we meet," An Ping agreed somewhat confusedly because for the next few days, he definitely wouldn’t have the time to meet with Niu Shanshan’s cousin as he had to attend educational training at the agency every day.

Qin Jian registered a triple room for the three of them and handed the key directly to An Ping. He did not go up but reminded them of a few precautions before leaving with An Hao.

An Ping took the key and led Wang Erzhu and Liu Xiaolian upstairs.

Their room was also on the third floor, room 301, at the end of the corridor. Upon entering and taking off their coats, they heard a woman’s sobs coming from next door.

"These rooms aren’t soundproof!" Wang Erzhu commented and pressed his ear against the wall to listen to the noise from next door, "This woman is crying so miserably! Wonder what happened."

"Aren’t the people here all military families? What could have happened? Could it be that her husband died, and she’s come for the mourning?" An Ping wondered, driven by curiosity, he too pressed his ear against the wall to listen.
