An Hao made her way to the second floor of the mall and strolled around before stopping in front of a women’s clothing store. In the window hung a red coat that wasn’t too expensive, but still looked pretty decent.

She approached and felt the fabric of the garment, checked the workmanship, then said to the sales assistant, "Excuse me, could you bring out one of these coats for me? I’d like to try it on!"

No sooner had she finished speaking than another voice chimed in, "Get one for me too! I want to try it on as well!"

The voice sounded very familiar, and when An Hao turned around, it turned out to be Song Yueqin, "You? What are you doing in the city?"

Having not seen her for several months, her attire had changed significantly.

Her clothing wasn’t of particularly good quality, but it was clearly very fashionable.

"Why can’t I come to the city? Is this city owned by your family?" Song Yueqin burst out, her tone full of hostility, as if she had encountered a nemesis from a past life.

An Hao frowned, "Did you swallow gunpowder? Can’t you speak properly?"

"I can speak nicely to others, just not to you!" Song Yueqin glared at An Hao as if she wanted to slice a piece of flesh off her body, "An Hao, you’re my bane! My life’s been miserable ever since I met you!"

"Life is what you make of it, who else can you blame if you can’t live well?" Encountering her, she had been driven to jump off a building in a past life, who could she blame for that?

While they were in the midst of their verbal battle, the sales assistant came over and said, "This coat is selling very well and is out of stock now! The one on display is the last one!"

"Then take it down, I’d like to try it on!" An Hao said.

The sales assistant took the coat down and handed it to An Hao. She tried it on and it fit perfectly, and it even made her complexion look fairer, she was quite satisfied with this piece of clothing, "I’ll take it! I’m buying it!"

"Hold on! You’ve tried it on, but I haven’t yet!" Song Yuqin had also taken a liking to it the moment she saw the coat.

"I was the one who took interest in this coat first. Don’t you understand the concept of first come, first served?" An Hao was really put off by Song Yueqin’s behavior.

"I noticed this coat at the same time as you did, it’s just that you spoke up a minute earlier than I did!" Song Yuqin didn’t want to waste words with An Hao and glanced at the price tag before taking out money from her bag and slapping it on the counter, "I’m paying now, sell the coat to me!"

The sales assistant didn’t care about who was first or last; she would give the coat to whoever paid first.

In those days, state-employed sales assistants could be quite formidable, showing a tough demeanor without even a hint of a smile.

Sometimes, whom they sold or didn’t sell to depended entirely on their own personal preference.

It so happened that this sales assistant took a liking to Song Yueqin and handed her the packed coat, "Here you go! Take it!"

"Wait a minute!" Buying things meant waiting in line, and this sales assistant’s actions greatly infuriated An Hao, "It’s all about the money and not the person, is that right? But shouldn’t there be some sort of order to things? Even if the coat is to be sold, it should be sold to me! How could it possibly be her turn?"

"Here, whoever pays first, gets the coat first!" snapped the sales assistant as she pocketed Song Yueqin’s money and quickly popped a couple of melon seeds in her mouth when it wasn’t busy.

This was the first time An Hao had heard such bandit logic, "Fine! So you just bully people outright? I’m telling you, I’m going to find the head of your mall’s sales department right now! I’ll let him come and sort this out, to see who should get this coat! In the meantime, you’d better not let her leave! Otherwise, you’ll bear all the consequences."
