Chapter 201: Chapter 35 Researching Demons Can Be Deadly_2
The mages who had made progress in their research stood in the laboratory, clad in dazzling magic shields, staring blankly at everything that was happening.
In their hearts, there was only curiosity about the text, with no temptation from the evil aura within the demon text.
Fran had always warned them to be careful, yet they thought Fran was being alarmist. It was just researching text; how could it possibly seduce any evil within them?
It wasn’t until today, when the Archmage who had recently been currying their favor suddenly mutated in front of them, that they realized the danger. If Adrian hadn’t acted promptly, their heads might have been torn off.
Adrian dismissed the shields and asked them with a smile how they felt and whether they needed a rest.
The mages only then reacted, shaking their heads to decline, but requested Adrian to provide them a quiet place, preferably where no one else would enter.
Adrian chuckled inwardly and agreed.
At first, when these old scholars had gathered, Adrian had asked them if they needed a quiet and undisturbed environment.
But these few thought that Fran and his apprentice looked down on others too much. Gathering so many people would always lead to new ideas, which might inspire them greatly!
They firmly refused Adrian’s offer and even scolded him a few times for his narrow-mindedness, adding that scholars should not solely be distinguished by simple national affiliations.
Now, they finally behaved themselves.
As long as those old mages and scholars were well protected, Adrian did not care even if others fell into corruption.
If not for these few, Fran would not have requested that Adrian stay here every day.
Snow Cloud Peak was very clear-headed. On the first day they sent people over, they met with Fran and Adrian and explicitly explained William’s arrangements.
In such matters, Hill usually opted to drive people away to avoid any incidents.
But Fran had no intention of intervening.
Since these people insisted on participating despite knowing the risks to their lives, they would have to take responsibility for themselves!
Adrian summoned a few Sky Knight Puppets to guard the small laboratory.
Outside in the large room, where crowds used to gather daily at the isolation barrier, suddenly there was no one.
Adrian couldn’t help but laugh and then he headed down to the reception hall.
Sure enough, as soon as he stood in the hall, people began to bid him farewell.
Watching their stiff smiles and listening to their stumbling farewell words, Adrian happily saw off most of the unwanted guests.
Fran would not try to retain these people either. He had only actively invited those scholarly mages dedicated to text research upstairs.
Those who were leaving all had their own hidden agendas. Moreover, some were clearly accepting money from unknown sources to gather information.
They didn’t realize that even a simply skewed thought, after watching the demon text for too long, would deepen their enticement.
As soon as they resonated with the evil waves emitted by the text, those with poor control would mutate on the spot.
Adrian didn’t know how many of those who wanted to leave were already on the verge of the abyss, but he dutifully informed them to spend half an hour at the fountain in the center of the square before leaving, to enjoy some natural purification.
Fran would take Adrian for walks around that place every morning and evening and would also invite those old scholars.
These people hadn’t learned their lesson and even planned to record more of their thoughts while Fran and the others were absent.
After all, Adrian often forgot to collect the drafts of the old scholars.
In this time, Adrian truly discovered that unrealistic desires and shameless profit-seeking made people incredibly foolish.
Some of the fools among the nobles were truly born with low intelligence, while others simply never received proper upbringing from a young age.
And these mages had once been very intelligent and pragmatic; otherwise, they would not have advanced to mages, let alone Archmages.
Adrian felt a bit bewildered, wondering if these guys really advanced to Archmages on their own.
He stood by the door and saw off the last Mage to take leave, quietly watching for a few minutes. All those who wanted to leave were honestly standing in the small square, some even directly drinking from the fountain’s water.
Adrian turned around and saw several Mages smiling at him; he tilted his head slightly, imitating Hill.
These were the ones directly sent by their countries, not the fools outside who were there for the money, and were very resolute.
Adrian nodded to them, preparing to go upstairs to report to his teacher.
"Mr. Adrian," someone suddenly called out to him.
"What is it? Is there something wrong?"
"I see many people have left!" he said with a smile, "But I don’t think it’s that dangerous yet. Can I bring more people over?"
"This territory only has requirements for factions," Adrian laughed. "As long as it’s neutral or above, and interested in research, they can come."
He slowly walked upstairs, hearing someone ask from behind, "Can we go to the Array outside anytime?"
"Of course, it’s always been a public place," Adrian frowned. "Just please do not disturb others. Also, do not damage it randomly. I think you understand what it means to be a territory of a Nature Warlock."
"Of course, no one dares."
Adrian walked thoughtfully into Fran’s room.
"What’s the matter?" Fran was slightly surprised. There couldn’t be anything about these people that would puzzle Adrian so much.
"There’s one guy, something seems off about him," Adrian said, standing by the window and watching the Mage join the crowd in the small square and converse with many people who were preparing to leave.
Fran came over and took a look too.
"He wants to bring more people here," Adrian pointed at the Mage, "Even though he acts very nobly, I don’t think he is one."
"Must be one of Dionysio’s men," Fran deduced. "The kind raised by the Temple. A brainwashed Mage, who could never reach a high level in his lifetime."
Adrian asked curiously, "What do we have here that makes them so cautious? And they even need to send someone."
"His Majesty the King might know something," Fran mused. "I’ve always felt there must be a reason he suddenly sent the Undead Tribe to watch over this."
"A Fallen Mage couldn’t possibly escape from Hill’s territory unless he was Legendary," he turned to look at the town reeking of natural essence, "Let alone this small square."
"There are so many Treants, the Elves would be jealous," Adrian said. "The last time I talked with Hill, I don’t know how he judged it, but he thought there were fewer here than in the Elf towns."
"What he reads are descriptions of the Elf King City," Fran sighed helplessly. "Rare villages, those are more like border towns, heavily guarded places, of course, full of Treants."
Adrian could only smile, "Sometimes Hill is really naive about things like this."
If Hill had heard him, he could only grumble internally. After all, reading too many fantasy novels and mistaking the Elf Forest for being full of Treants isn’t something one easily admits.
"Don’t worry about it," Fran asserted. "Just inform the Lord’s Mansion Tower Spirit Marsha. Keep an eye on these people at all times."
"Alright," Adrian said. "I think Hill just promoted List again. Even the Legendary Tower Spirit is no different now, right?"
"His advancement direction is a bit strange," Fran nodded. "Probably because of the Nature System! It seems to be becoming more human-like. Different from the direction of the Mage Tower Spirit."
"No wonder the teacher gave that Puppet to List," Adrian said with a laugh. "It’s only really practical with Hill."
"You’re not as good as Hill in that regard," Fran spoke slowly. "Hill immediately looks at the intelligence and flexibility of this Puppet to see if it can compare with a living person."
"Ah!"
"Hill is closer to nature and more sensitive to anything related to the World Rules," Fran said. "You have a lot to improve in this aspect, must pay attention."
"Yes, teacher!"
Through the window, Fran looked at the affable and versatile Mage outside and sneered: "That one has ascended to the Starry Sky too long, daring to use Humans to spy on Deities?"
Adrian silently stood aside. Fran truly despised that Deity of Kings and Nobles!
