Surviving The Fourth Calamity -
Chapter 118 - 95: A Start that Satisfies Both Natives and Players
Chapter 118: Chapter 95: A Start that Satisfies Both Natives and Players
Adrian finally reacted, quickly laughing as he said, "I was just saying, it’s good as long as you know it yourself."
"With such a strong natural aura on you, you won’t be unlucky."
Adrian, seeming to understand what had happened, blurted out the word ’unlucky’.
For an alchemist, no matter how skilled they are at alchemy work, there is always a chance of failure. Naturally, no other talent is needed, just the existence of the word "unlucky" is enough to make an excellent alchemist shudder.
Natural Consciousness was appeased, and it let off Adrian who had provoked it, contentedly circling around Hill, expressing its affection for him.
"For you, I’m willing to tolerate this fool."
Hill smiled warmly.
Adrian secretly sighed in relief.
Hill summoned Srei to summarize the information from the past two days.
"There are many magical beasts, the deeper you go, the uglier they get.
The ones at the front, if they can’t beat them, will flee, but the further back you go, the more they are the insane kind, fighting to the death.
If you’re not careful, they might even detonate their demon cores, which is how some of them died." Srei had a puppet bring over a ring, "The Old Age Sanda King Lady told us to keep one of each kind of magical beast they had, these were her exact words."
Adrian took the ring and began to examine it.
He frowned deeply, "This is more than just the scent of divine power. I need to take it back and show it to my teacher."
Hill suddenly felt that the world became very real: The world consciousness actively helping the God of Time and Space, and the ease with which players entered, probably meant that something was about to happen soon.
What else could be underground?
An Abyssal Gate or spiders?
"Has Rose not returned to the Divine Kingdom yet?" Hill remembered the God of Nobility who was contending with the Abyssal Gate.
"No," Adrian said, looking up. "Dionysio is preparing to take over the Pope’s position."
Hill’s eyes widened in surprise.
"That church, the internal strife is always terrible," Adrian sneered coldly, "That god has always been unable to return to the Divine Kingdom, causing instability within the church.
The current Pope, probably flattered into stupidity, thinks he can ascend directly to the Divine Kingdom and take the Main God’s divine position."
Hill wanted to recite a scripture for him, for scattering one’s soul is certainly the best outcome already.
"The current Pope is one of the rare ones from a lower background in that church," Adrian said with a smile: "The Dionysio royal family was too fiercely infighting, wiping out that batch of heirs, all benefiting this person.
Now that this person, who claims to be the strongest orthodox heir under All Gods, has appeared, the Pope has been completely sidelined.
They opted for a rather tactful approach, given the status of the church’s Pope they have elevated so high over thousands of years.
The Main God in Divine Kingdom also seemed to cooperate, the current Pope, who had been flattered for hundreds of years, truly thought himself immensely powerful, ready to occupy a position just below the Main God upon entering the Divine Kingdom.
These people never expected that the Main God could not return, and the Pope actually thought he could take his place.
The Mage Association must be overjoyed, the news spread rapidly."
"They’re all waiting for Dionysio, wondering when he would dispose of that foolish Pope and take his place! It must be soon, otherwise such a secretive piece of news wouldn’t have been leaked for mages to know."
Hill silently sighed, feeling that the Noble Church was bound to be a disaster eventually.
Adrian stood up: "When is Mobi Chenxin coming over? We need to find a place to unload these things."
"Is the second floor empty?" Hill asked Srei.
"They all went to rest in the Lord’s Mansion," Srei answered. "No one has come up to the second floor."
"Then clean it up and keep it for Uncle Adrian," Hill turned and asked, "Why not put it in the newly opened general store? There’s so much space there."
Hill casually tossed the materials to Adrian: "Keep these."
Adrian carefully examined the materials in his hands, saying absently, "That store is best kept ordinary. High-value items should still go to the small town."
Hill nodded: It seemed that Fran and Adrian were still taking a conservative approach toward the players. That was good.
He turned to look outside, where most of the players had been drawn to Adrian’s store.
"When I came up, did I see your store selling food?" Adrian began.
"The Undead Tribe needs to eat food," Hill replied. "Their bodies need food to replenish some energy."
"How strange," Adrian felt it was bizarre. "They won’t get hungry. What’s the point of eating? Why not replenish with crystal stones?"
Hill felt he couldn’t explain it. Was this just a fixed rule of the online game?
Hill thought distractedly: Perhaps concepts like dwelling in morning breezes without mundane concerns, absorbing spiritual power through spirit stones are more similar to Eastern fantasy games. Maybe players couldn’t adapt to that?
Adrian didn’t really expect Hill to provide an answer; he was very satisfied with the materials in his hand, packed them up, and then got up to go downstairs to store them.
"Srei," Hill softly asked, "that elderly Striking King?"
"Following Sir’s usual practice, she was given three times the standard Territory Contribution Points," Srei answered. "This lady can now settle in our territory, and she gets a 20% discount in our shops."
Hill first nodded in approval, then was surprised, "Is she Orderly Good?"
Hill had set a requirement for those settling in his territory to maintain a Kind Alignment to minimize trouble, otherwise there wouldn’t be just a dozen or so players up to now.
"It might be because of the Priest," Srei calmly replied. "She generally only participates in defensive battles."
"Okay," Hill muttered to himself, "Temper doesn’t represent alignment."
"Mr. Mobi Chenxin has arrived, bringing several people," Srei asked, "Shall I take them directly to the second floor to meet Mr. Adrian?"
"Yes. Call me down when everything is over," Hill thought for a moment, "It’s best to only keep Mobi Chenxin there; tell Uncle Adrian a word."
Hill sat by the window, watching as the players continued to trickle in.
Even after seeing Adrian’s steep prices, the Black and White Path still brought several thousand people.
Hill’s mind drifted, realizing: Their level is only increasing within the Magister rank, but the high-level items crafted by Fran could be used by even legendary heroes without money.
Equipments worth keeping for a long time — the players willing to spend money probably wanted to jump to the best all at once.
It’s just one-off, Hill consoled himself, it doesn’t break the fairness of the game, Fran won’t make more later, and Adrian can’t make them either.
Eventually, William would come out with divine replicas.
Moreover, Hill reflected bitterly, players still relied on numbers in battles, the strength of individual equipment only affected their own arenas.
Hensley was snooping around again.
Probably calculating how much Adrian had sold.
The outgoing players were waving their newly acquired weapons, boasting loudly.
The envious gazes of the bystanders only made them more triumphant.
