Surviving the Apocalypse: All I Want Is to Find a Husband -
Chapter 97: Hostages
Chapter 97: Hostages
As the sky darkened, Medeia stood before the garage, her gaze landed on the two massive twelve-wheeler trucks loaded with weapons and ammunition.
After considering the risks, they decided it was best to leave the Warstock base under the cover of night to avoid drawing the attention of bandits. Medeia tapped the pen on the cardboard, checking off the crates that had been loaded onto the trucks.
Based on Lucian’s calculations, the two trucks carried: 200 rifles, 150 pistols, 80 grenades, 50 machine guns, and over 10,000 rounds of ammunition.
Additionally, they brought raw materials and equipment for manufacturing ammunition from scratch, ensuring they could replenish their supplies when needed.
However, they left a few weapons and ammunition behind at the base for Tian and Simon. In just half a day, Tian had placed numerous weapons around the base and positioned them so he could easily shoot anyone attempting to sneak in.
Medeia double-checked the load, her eyes narrowing slightly as she scanned the list. "Everything matches," she muttered to herself before turning to Lucian, who stood nearby. "We’re good to go, darling."
The moment the word slipped from her mouth, a deafening silence fell over the group. All the people around her suddenly stopped what they were doing and looked at her in disbelief.
Ren almost dropped the crate in his hand, asking, "What the fuck is that?"
Medeia raised one of her eyebrows and stared at him confusedly. "What?"
"You call him darling!"
"Because he is indeed my darling," said Medeia casually.
Simon let out a loud, dramatic gasp. "You are finally dating each other? Since when?"
"I thought your relationship was not that serious," said Harry.
All the villagers knew they were close and seemed to like each other, but no one had ever confirmed it. Hence, they thought Medeia and Lucian only shared a strong partnership, a bond of close friendship rather than romance.
"Oh, really? How can you say that?" Medeia protested, "I’ve been sleeping in the same bed as him for ... I don’t know how many and you still doubt our relationship?" She continued, "I’ve never even slept in the same room with another man."
Ren replied casually, "Maybe because you’ve never asked them."
"It’s not like you would agree to sleep in the same room with me if I asked, right?" asked Medeia.
"Well, I ...," Ren stopped his words mid-sentence as he felt goosebumps all over his body. When he turned his head, he accidentally met Lucian’s sharp eyes. He was smiling, but the way he looked at him was extremely terrifying. "... I will refuse you immediately!"
Tian sighed as he saw his brother almost get into trouble for who knows how many times. "That’s enough. The night will get colder if you don’t leave soon."
"Brother, are you sure you’ll be alright if I leave you alone?" asked Ren.
"Do you want to switch places?"
Ren immediately closed his mouth and slowly shook his head. It wasn’t that he was afraid of the bandits, but he felt uncomfortable staying in the large, empty base, which also served as the graveyard for many soldiers and innocent children.
"Good. Now go with them and don’t cause any trouble while I’m gone."
Lucian then said to Tian, "Be careful. I’ll come back here two days from now."
Tian nodded. "Don’t worry. We’ll be fine."
On the other side, Medeia patted Joy’s shoulders. "You have to stay alive when I come back or you can’t get the facilities I promised you."
Joy’s expression turned grim after hearing her dark words. "Please, don’t say something like that so casually, Miss Medeia."
"Just call me ’Leader’ from now on," Medeia replied.
Joy hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Understood, Leader."
Medeia nodded in satisfaction. Since the first time she arrived in this world, she had never liked being called "Miss Medeia" because it didn’t sound cool at all.
She was used to being called "Your Majesty" or "My Queen," so the word "Miss" felt too out of place.
But since she wasn’t royalty in this world, she had reluctantly accepted it. Fortunately, Lucian allowed her to be the leader of the alliance, which meant she could use the title "leader."
Lucian closed the trucks’ door after the doctors got into the cargo. The trucks were packed, and everything was ready to leave. He gave Medeia a quick glance before climbing into the driver’s seat.
Medeia followed him and sat beside him, while Harry and Tian climbed onto the other truck.
The engines roared and the convoy slowly pulled out of the Warstock base, leaving Tian and Simon in the empty base. From afar, Medeia could hear the sound of machines from inside the base that Tian had ignited.
"He’s really reliable. I like him." Medeia pretended to cough once as she thought she had chosen the wrong word. "I mean as a friend."
Lucian chuckled softly. "I know. You don’t have to keep your distance from other men just because we’re together now," he said. "I don’t want this relationship to become a burden for you."
Medeia glanced at the window and spoke softly, "But you seem easy to be jealous of me."
Even though Lucian hadn’t said it loudly, Medeia could see the jealousy in his eyes and in the way he acted. Therefore, she thought she had to be more careful in the future.
"How can I not be jealous? My girlfriend is too beautiful, so I’m afraid a mole might snatch you from me." Lucian patted her hand lightly. "But it’s not your job to worry about how I feel. You don’t have to change who you are just because you’re dating me."
Lucian smiled and said in a gentle tone, "Besides, other people can only look, but I’m the one who gets to hold you."
Is this how a relationship is supposed to be?
Medeia used to be controlled by her scumbag ex. The way she acted, the way she presented herself in front of others, it was all dictated by him.
She was the queen of hell, but she didn’t even have the right to be in charge of her own life.
Hence, she thought Lucian also didn’t like it when she did something without considering his feelings. That fear lingered, even though he was nothing like her ex.
"You’re right." Medeia laughed and dismissed her bad thoughts. "Only you who can kiss and hold me every day."
She really had to learn to forget her ex influence in her life.
As the night passed, they finally arrived at the Red Canyon. The people who guarded the gate were alert when they saw two strange, intimidating trucks moving toward the base.
The massive trucks were unlike anything they had seen in a long time. It was hard to find those vehicles in the apocalypse because they didn’t have the resources to refuel them. Even the trucks that were used around the Red Canyon were much smaller in comparison.
Before the guards lifted their weapons, Medeia stuck her head out of the car window. "It’s us!"
They sighed in unison, not even surprised to see that Medeia had brought something unexpected back to the base again.
At this point, all the things she brought seemed like mandatory souvenirs.
"Chief Eldric, I think your son has come home!" a man shouted through the base as soon as they saw Harry waving from inside the car.
Not long after, Nico finally opened the invisible shield so they could enter the base. Even though the sun hadn’t risen yet, all of the people in the base immediately came out of their places to see the two large trucks that had just arrived.
"What are these?!" Naomi almost had a heart attack when she stepped out of her tent and saw the monstrous trucks. "How... how did you find these things?!"
Ren jumped out of the truck with a smirk. "Oh, you haven’t seen the real deal yet."
Ren and Harry then opened the cargo door, making all of the doctors breathe a sigh of relief as they could finally breathe fresh air again.
But they quickly abandoned the idea of getting off the truck when they saw so many unfamiliar faces in front of them.
"Who are these youngsters?"
Medeia glanced at the doctors before turning to the group of people standing near the trucks. "These are our hostages." She talked in casual manners. "From now on, they’ll work for us."
Tilly looked at her in disbelief. "You bring hostages from Warstock?! Are you insane?! What if the soldiers from the Warstock come here and attack us?!"
Medeia waved her hand. "Oh, don’t worry. All the soldiers and the general are dead, so no one will attack us."
Tilly was taken aback. "D-dead? All of them? H-how ...."
The women from Stormclad knew better than the villagers that it was impossible to take down the entire Warstock. All of them were soldiers and had advanced weapons, so how could they be dead so easily like that?
"And we also bring their weapons with us." Medeia opened the cargo door widely, so everyone could see the crates of weapons and ammunition inside.
Tilly’s face lost its color instantly. "You ... you are insane."
