Chapter 59: What is She?

Lucian tried to get up but immediately fell over again. "Just take me and let her go."

Medeia held him down, preventing Lucian from getting back up. "No, I’m not going anywhere."

Lucian pushed her away with his trembling hands. "Go away!" he shouted, his tone filled with desperation instead of anger.

"No."

Lucian’s eyes widened as he heard her short answer. "Medeia, you--"

She cut him off. "You’ve always protected me, so I’ll protect you this time," Medeia said, "None of us will die today, I promise."

"No! I don’t need your protection!" Lucian still tried to push her away, but Medeia stayed in her place.

Lucian might think she was a fool, who was trying to act like a hero. However, Medeia would not dare to promise something she could not keep.

’System, will my demon ability also disappear if the General touches me?’

[No, host].

[Your demon abilities are not mutations, so he can’t disable them].

Medeia smiled because she had guessed this earlier. That was why she was confident enough to fight Orlon.

I want to activate my demonic power.

[Are you sure, Host? Lucian can see your true nature if you activate your demonic abilities.]

Medeia clenched her fists. ’It’s not like I have a choice. Watching him die is more painful than being abandoned by him.’

She hoped to spend more time with Lucian, but she couldn’t be greedy. A few weeks with a kind man by her side was more than she deserved.

Someone like her didn’t deserve him anyway.

"Lucian," she whispered to him, gently stroking his hair. "I’m glad I got to know you."

Lucian didn’t understand why Medeia was suddenly talking like that, but he knew something was wrong. "Medeia, please ... I beg you to go."

Medeia gave him a sincere smile. "I can’t."

[Your C-points will be reduced by 90% if your potential husband leaves you.]

The system was ridiculous again.

Back then, it wanted her to choose as many potential husbands as possible, but why would it reduce her C-points if a man left her?

Did the system want her to have many potential husbands so that it could keep reducing her C-points?

At this point, Medeia didn’t know if the system was trying to help her or ruin her life.

’I don’t care anymore.’

If Lucian left her, Medeia was not sure if she could find another potential husband anymore.

Maybe letting the system reduce her C-points to zero didn’t sound so bad.

"How romantic." Eddy clapped his hands as he witnessed their dramatic conversation. "If you just don’t mess with something you can’t handle, maybe you won’t get into this miserable state."

Lucian clenched his jaw. "You’re the one messing with us first."

"Enough." Orlon ended their conversation. "I don’t have all day to deal with you. Colonel, kill the bastard and bring his wife to my office now."

"Yes, sir!"

Two men immediately grabbed Medeia’s arm and dragged her roughly into the base. But before they could go any further, Lucian grabbed their legs as tight as he could.

His eyes were filled with rage and desperation as he tightened his grip. "Let them go!" he growled.

The soldiers stumbled, struggling to kick him off. "Damn it! He’s like a rabid dog!" one of them cursed, kicking Lucian several times in the face.

Colton let out a cruel laugh as he watched this pathetic scene. "How pathetic. The desperate hero trying to save his damsel," he walked over to Lucian and stomped on the back of his head. "If only your ability weren’t such a nuisance, I might let you see your wife impregnated by other men."

Lucian’s body trembled under Colton’s foot, but his grip on the soldier’s legs didn’t loosen. Blood dripped from his lips, staining the ground beneath him as his emerald eyes locked their gaze upon them.

"You...," Lucian’s voice was hoarse but firm. "I won’t let you touch her."

Colton pressed his foot harder against Lucian’s head and chuckled. "And what can you do about it? You are useless here. You’re nothing but a weak man now."

Medeia’s sharpened her gaze, her voice was deep and filled with anger. "He can’t do anything, but I can."

[Activation Skill: Demonic Strength]

[Countdown: 00:15:00]

Medeia bit her lips as she endured the pain of her physical transformation. Two small, pointed red horns sprouted from her head, along with her nails, which grew longer and sharper.

Colton rounded his eyes, surprised by her sudden change. "What the he---"

Medeia pushed the soldiers away and kicked Colton in the stomach as hard as she could before he could finish his words.

Colton flew backward and slammed into the gate with a deafening thud. Everyone froze, their eyes fixed on Medeia, now in her demonic form. She summoned the Abyssal Sword from the system as her glowing crimson eyes shot into the soldiers.

Lucian, still on the ground, looked up at her, his eyes wide with shock. "Medeia ..." he whispered softly.

She didn’t look at him, not daring to see his reaction to her disgusting appearance.

The soldiers stepped back in fear, their former confidence replaced by sheer terror. "Is she the transformation mutant?"

"But don’t most people with that ability turn into animals? She ... what is she?"

Medeia’s lips curled. "The one thing you should never have messed with."

Colton stood immediately. Despite the hard kick, he did not look hurt at all. In fact, he looked even stronger.

"Who cares what she is?" Colton took off his jacket and wore brass knuckles on his hands. "The more attractive she is, the more suitable she is to be our plaything."

"Let’s see who will be a play thing." Medeia muttered to herself, "System, I want to know his ability."

[Check his status ...]

[Name: Colton Gustav (Colonel of Warstock Base)]

Age: 47

Ability: Kinetic Absorption (Grade-S) — Effect: Absorb kinetic energy from physical impacts, whether punches, gunshots, or explosions, and store it within his body. Then, he can release the stored energy twice as strong.]

Kinetic absorption?

No wonder Colton seemed stronger after Medeia kicked him. She tightened her grip on the Abyssal Sword, trying to figure out a strategy to defeat Colton in the next 15 minutes.

No, she didn’t have to defeat him. She just had to fight him until Lucian regained his strength.

She had to protect him, no matter what it took.

"Lucian," Medeia called his name without looking at him. "You need to stay back."

Lucian, finally coming out of his reverie, said, "Medeia, I---"

"Step back, Lucian." She turned her head slightly and smiled, "Let’s talk about this later."

But Medeia doubted that Lucian would want to talk to her again after this.

"What are you waiting for? Take her down!" Colton yelled at the soldiers, who remained silent for a moment. "If you can’t fight a woman, you’d better be thrown into an experimental lab!"

The soldiers immediately regained their strength after hearing Colton’s threat. At his command, they scattered around her and unleashed a storm of bullets at her.

The bullets were fast, but not fast enough for her. Medeia was able to dodge easily, slicing through each bullet without breaking a sweat.

She ran toward them, moving gracefully as she swung her sword. It pierced one man’s chest, but avoided his heart, allowing Medeia to devour his soul before he died.

[You have killed an evildoer: +120 XP, +25 coins.]

[You have harvested a soul: +70 XP, +15 coins].

A broad smile appeared on Medeia’s face, a terrifying expression that struck fear and terror into the hearts of the humans. The way she fought the soldiers was terrifying and merciless. She tore their limbs apart, making sure they were still breathing before ripping out their hearts.

One by one, the soldiers fell, their screams echoing through the base as their souls escaped their lifeless bodies.

The system continued to chime in her mind.

[You have killed an evildoer: +120 XP, +25 coins.]

[You have harvested a soul: +70 XP, +15 coins].

She devoured their souls, ignoring the system’s warning not to eat too many souls in a short time.

[Countdown: 00:07:00]

In just eight minutes, Medeia had created a pile of lifeless bodies around her. From afar, she heard more people coming to the front gate, along with the General, who finally came out after Colton didn’t appear in his office for too long.

"Colonel! What the hell is going on here?! Why haven’t you killed him yet?" the General shouted when he saw Lucian sitting next to the car while Medeia stood in the middle of his lifeless soldiers.

Despite seeing his comrade killed, Colton was still able to answer calmly. "This woman has an interesting ability, so I’d like to observe her first."

Medeia gritted her teeth because Colton had treated her like a lab rat.

"I really, really want to kill you." Medeia pointed her sword at Colton, but the colonel remained unfazed.

Colton finally stepped forward. "General, if I may, I would like to continue testing her abilities. The Professor may like to hear my report about this."

Orlon, "Just do whatever you want." He went to Lucian. "Then I guess I’ll have to kill the bastard myself."
