Chapter 53: Cousins (2)

"Lucian, you’ve grown taller!"

"You’re too thin! Are you eating properly?" another added, squeezing his shoulders like a concerned mother.

Lucian’s expression changed from calm to pure discomfort. His body stiffened under their embrace, his emerald eyes moving toward Medeia as if silently pleading for rescue.

Medeia’s face darkened as she saw many of them touching his body over and over again. She had never even touched him for so long!

If the rumors were true, didn’t that mean they were Richard’s wives?

How could they touch another man like that? Have they no shame?

"Can you back away?" Medeia’s cynical tone made them turn their heads toward her. "He looks uncomfortable."

The women froze for a moment, exchanging glances before the eldest-looking one spoke, "Oh, and who might you be?"

Another woman, the one who was clinging to Lucian’s arms, tilted her head. "You sound jealous. Are you his girlfriend or something? Oh, my! Are you his wife?!"

"Our baby boy has gotten married?!" The woman with short black hair spoke in a dramatic tone. "Without inviting us?!"

The more they talked, the more Medeia was confused. "I’m his companion." she replied curtly, crossing her arms.

Lucian coughed awkwardly, and used her interjection as an excuse to step away from the group of women. "Medeia, they are my cousins."

"Cousins?" Medeia blinked. No wonder their faces looked alike and Lucian didn’t push them away as soon as possible.

"Yes, cousins!" The youngest woman said with a giggle. She released Lucian’s arms. "Richard is our baby brother, not our husband. I know you also heard about those silly rumors, didn’t you?"

Medeia’s face heated as embarrassment crept in, but she masked it with a cough.

Fortunately, she didn’t have to endure that embarrassment for too long because the man they wanted to meet from the start finally came out from his bedroom.

Based on the gossip about him, Medeia thought Richard Black was an old man with ugly wrinkles and a bald head.

But the truth was far from the rumor.

He looked like a man in his early thirties, perhaps the same age as Lucian. His figure wasn’t particularly tall, around 1.70 m, even shorter than Medeia.

Though his face and hair color were similar to Lucian’s, his slender and frail body made him look more beautiful than handsome.

With that kind of appearance, Medeia was sure she could beat him down in one punch.

[Please, be respectful toward your potential husband’s family, Host!]

Medeia rolled her eyes internally. ’It’s not like I have to come to their house for dinner every christmas.’

"Lucian? Is that really you?" Richard rubbed his eyes several times. "I think you’ve forgotten us!"

Lucian approached Richard and gave him a brief hug. "I’m sorry for not visiting you for so long."

"Are you kidding? You’ve been gone for seven years! Can you imagine it? Seven years!"

After seeing his behavior, Medeia finally understood why his big sisters were being so dramatic.

But, why was Lucian so calm all the time?

Is he adopted?

"But now I’m here." Lucian scratched his neck awkwardly. "You know ... I’ve wandered too far, so I don’t remember the direction to City H. A few weeks ago, I tried to come here, but ended up in the forest instead."

The room fell silent after he said that. Medeia remembered she met Lucian for the first time in the forest.

She thought he was just wandering in the forest, but it turned out he had lost.

But could someone blame him? The world had been in chaos for years, so no wonder he couldn’t tell which was the right direction.

Yes, that’s right!

Lucian was never wrong!

[You’re just blind by love, Host.]

Richard coughed once to break the silence. "Alright, the important thing is you can come back now."

He continued, "I’ve heard from my guy that you killed the Stormclad leader. Is that true?"

Lucian nodded. "You know why I did it, right?"

"He is the bastard who sold auntie and killed Uncle Julio." Richard clicked his tongue. "I can’t believe I have the same surname with that bastard."

One of his sisters said, "Yeah, we’d rather change our surname to Lucifer!"

Medeia choked on her own saliva when that name came out of their mouths.

"Are you alright?" asked Lucian.

Medeia murmured, "I’m fine. My throat just feels a bit dry."

Richard’s older sister looked guilty. "Oh, my. I’m sorry for not offering you a drink, dear. Do you want a soda?"

Simon and Tian screamed at the same time. "Soda?! You also have soda?!"

After exchanging pleasantries, Richard asked them to sit down and gave them soda. Instead of canned drinks, they made the carbonate drinks manually.

It didn’t taste the same as the soda can, but it was enough to fulfill their craving.

Tian’s eyes widened as he chugged down the soda. "It ... it tastes like heaven. Ren would be angry with me if he knew he could drink soda if I didn’t switch schedules with him."

"I really want to bring this drink home," said Simon.

Richard, "You can bring some if you want."

Simon was almost crying when he received his kindness. "Really?! Thank you, kind sir! I promise I will be loyal to you forever!"

Medeia shook her head because she couldn’t believe their loyalty was only for soda. But she immediately changed her mind as soon as she tasted it. "Lucian, we really have to bring it home!"

Unlike them, who were crazy about the soda, Lucian asked a crucial question. "How can you make such a drink? Aren’t you short of water?"

Richard replied, "We have collected many waterheart plants from the forest, so we can still have water supplies even if Stormclad does not send us more water supplies."

His youngest sister complained. "I’m really sick of that sweet water." She continued, "I just want to drink fresh water! Is that too much to ask?"

"Do you have an empty glass?" asked Medeia.

She looked at her confusedly but nodded. "Yes, why?" she asked, handing her an empty glass.

Medeia smiled slightly and placed her fingertips on the glass. "Didn’t you say you wanted some fresh water?"
