Surviving the Apocalypse: All I Want Is to Find a Husband -
Chapter 47: A ’Romance’ Novel
Chapter 47: A ’Romance’ Novel
Medeia told Lucian about the use of eternal bond rings. "Blue means alive, red means one of us is in danger, and black ... it means dead."
And Medeia hoped she would never see the last color on her ring.
"How—"
Medeia cut him off, "Don’t ask me how the rings can do that. Just wear it and protect it like it’s our engagement ring."
Lucian held on to that ring tightly before he wore it on his ring finger. "Got it." He patted her head before walking away. "I’ll be back soon."
"I know."
Medeia waved her hand as the first group left the village. Some of the villagers cried because they hadn’t expected them to actually leave.
They thought they would be dead this summer, but miracle after miracle has happened since Medeia regained consciousness before she became the Lost.
Dr. Rory looked up at the sky, tears streaming down his cheeks, for he truly believed that Medeia was a Messiah sent by God.
"What the hell is he doing?" Medeia grimaced when she saw his strange behavior.
This doctor might need another doctor to look at his head.
[Activate Eternal Bond Rings]
The sudden voice of the system made Medeia lower her head and look at the silver ring on her finger. The gem on the ring slowly turned blue, indicating that the other wearer was alive and well.
"What should I do if I want to know his whereabouts?" asked Medeia aloud once she was alone.
[You can just think about wanting to see him, Host.]
Medeia closed her eyes for a moment, focusing her mind to think of Lucian. As her eyelids fluttered open, she saw a red thread emerge from her ring and stretch forward as if it had a mind of its own.
[The red thread will lead you to the exact location of the other wearer. The closer you are, the stronger the glow.]
Medeia sighed. "It would be nice if I could just teleport to him."
[Don’t try to eat too much, Host].
Medeia rolled her eyes. She didn’t have much energy to reply to the system’s sarcastic words, so she decided to say one word to it. "Cheapskate."
"Medeia," Naomi patted her shoulder, trying to get her attention. "Instead of looking like a hopeless wife, why don’t you help me pack the harvest?"
Medeia let out a heavy sigh. "I’m not his wife," she continued, "not yet."
Naomi replied with a chuckle, then asked Medeia to come with her to the farm.
Although she didn’t want to admit it, Medeia also felt that she was acting like a hopeless wife. Her body was busy with many things, but her mind couldn’t stop thinking about Lucian.
She drank a glass of water and immediately wondered if Lucian had run out of water on the way?
Not only that, she thought of him when she ate, sat or even bathed.
She had only been away from him for a few hours!
They might see each other again tonight, but why did her heart ache every time she couldn’t see his face?
Pathetic.
She had fallen head over heels in love with him, so Medeia couldn’t live without him anymore.
But that was okay, they would meet again tonight, right?
Wrong.
Medeia had helped Naomi pack the harvest all day, so she was exhausted and slept in until morning.
When she awoke, Lucian had already left the village, along with the elders and children.
Medeia gritted her teeth as she stared at the empty spot where Lucian’s car had been parked. She kicked at the gravel on the ground, angry at herself for missing the chance to see Lucian.
"Medeia!" Nico called to her.
She took a deep breath before turning to face him. "What?"
Nico jumped at her sharp stone. Nico hesitantly approached Medeia and held out a thick book. "Lucian asked me to give this to you before he left," he said as he held it out to her.
Her heart skipped a beat when she saw the book. It was a romance novel!
Oh, finally! Lucian must have remembered her offhand remark about missing those stories.
Secrets in the Garden.
Oh, the title looked interesting.
She opened the book excitedly. Her fingers turned the pages one by one to skim the stories.
But then her eyes widened as she continued to read. Words like "moaning", "thrusting his dick" and "fucking till morning" appeared so many times in the book.
Medeia’s face immediately turned red like an apple.
That wasn’t just a romance novel. It was that ’kind’ of romance novel.
She closed the book and held it to her chest as she tried to compose herself. "This ... this is what he thought I wanted? Where did he find it?" she muttered, half to herself, half to Nico, who looked confused.
Was Lucian teasing her? Did he even know what kind of book it was?
Nico nodded quickly. A bright smile appeared on the boy’s face. "Lucian found it in one of the stormclad hunters’ belongings. He said the cover looked like a sweet romance novel, so he thought you would like it. Do you like it?"
Ah, so he didn’t know the contents of the books.
She thought Lucian wanted her to read a dirty novel so they could practice later.
Maybe, just maybe, that was his plan all along.
Medeia’s cheeks burned even brighter as she coughed. "Well, uh ... I’ll definitely read it later," she mumbled.
"Great! I will tell him to find you more books like this when I meet him," Nico said enthusiastically.
Oh, please don’t, boy.
She was embarrassed to look at the book, but in the end, she read it to the end.
When she reached the last page of the book, it was already her turn to go to the Red Canyon.
For five days, Medeia hadn’t had a proper conversation with Lucian because of their busy schedule.
But now everything was taken care of by the last three batches. The only thing that had to be carried by the four groups were their clothes and some of the things the villagers had left behind.
So Medeia couldn’t contain her happiness and ran toward him as soon as he got out of the car.
She jumped on his back, hugged him tightly from behind and said, "Lucian, I’ll truly forget your face if you ignore me further."
