Surviving the Apocalypse: All I Want Is to Find a Husband
Chapter 46: Hug Like There is No Tomorrow

Chapter 46: Hug Like There is No Tomorrow

Medeia froze in her place after hearing these unexpected words. She even forgot how to breathe and her mind suddenly went blank.

"I-I thought you’d be mad," Medeia asked hesitantly.

Lucian slowly approached her, leaving no distance between them. "Why would I be mad? We hugged before, remember?"

Medeia lowered her eyes and muttered, "That was different ..."

Lucian had hugged Medeia in the Stormclad base because he felt relieved she was alive.

But last night ... Medeia hugged him because she just wanted to, for no other reason.

"But I don’t feel any different." Lucian gently lifted her chin so they could look into each other’s eyes. "It’s really no big deal. You don’t have to overthink it and avoid me all day."

He tilted his head. "Besides, friends hug all the time, right?"

Friends?

So he considered what she was doing a friendly hug?

Medeia suddenly felt as if something inside her wanted to explode.

But if that logic meant that Medeia could hug him whenever she wanted without looking weird, then she would gladly enter his friend zone.

Maybe their relationship would grow from friend zone to fuck buddy in the future.

No! She meant from friend zone to brother-sister zone!

Wait, that sounds even weirder than before.

Ah, whatever.

The future was a mystery anyway.

"Really? Then how about a hug now?" Medeia gathered all of her courage to ask him.

She thought Lucian would reject her right away, but who would expect him to immediately spread his arms, as if he was allowing Medeia to hug him.

Without further thought, Medeia jumped into his embrace and buried her face in his pectoral muscles.

Good heavens.

She finally had more opportunities to touch those big muscles.

On the other hand, Lucian was surprised by how eagerly Medeia had thrown herself into his arms. But then his muscles relaxed and his arms closed around her body.

They stayed in that position for almost three minutes, embracing each other like there was no tomorrow.

It felt as if the embrace could recharge their energy and erase their fatigue in a second.

"Okay, that’s enough." Medeia was the first to break the embrace. "I don’t want the others to think we committed adultery in the middle of the day."

Lucian seemed a little disappointed, but he didn’t try to convince Medeia to hug him any longer. "Medeia, hugging doesn’t count as adultery."

Yes, but hugging was the first step before a couple started sharing their bodily fluids.

"Let’s just do it in private, okay?"

Lucian only smiled, but Medeia assumed that he had agreed to her request.

"What time are you leaving tomorrow?" asked Medeia to change the subject.

Lucian looked at her, his expression softening. "At dawn. The first batch must arrive early so we can return to the village at night."

Medeia nodded. "I see. That’s a good plan." She said, "Nico and I will come with the last batch because the village still needs his shield."

It wasn’t that she cared too much about Nico, but the boy would definitely feel anxious as soon as Sister Jeanne and the kids left the village before him. If Medeia didn’t keep an eye on him, Nico might lose control again.

"Oh, I think Bear will stay with us too. People are still afraid of him, so I don’t want to leave him in other people’s hands," Medeia added.

Lucian gently stroked her long hair with his fingers. "So we won’t see each other much for the next few days." There was a hint of disappointment in his tone.

Medeia tilted her head, trying to lighten the mood. "It’s not like you’re going to miss me, is it?"

Lucian locked their eyes. "I will miss you, Medeia." His fingers moved to her face, caressing her soft cheeks. "It’s really hard for me not to see you for so long."

What nonsense.

They had only spent some time together, how could he have become attached to her?

But he also sounded genuine, so Medeia couldn’t help but feel happy when he said that.

She took a deep breath before she said. "It’s hard for me too."

Medeia had hoped to spend the night with Lucian before he left in the morning, but both of them were busy helping the villagers pack the goods that would be taken to the base.

"Miss Medeia, can I take this to the base?" Jeremy, a seven-year-old boy, held up his toy train, which looked like a piece of junk.

Medeia wasn’t even sure if the toy would be intact when it was placed in a storage box.

So rather than hear his ugly cry later, Medeia decided to come up with a white lie. "We can only bring something useful like clothes or food because the car will break down if we bring too much stuff."

Jeremy’s smile immediately turned down. "But I really like this train ..."

Medeia groaned softly, thinking that a kid really was a nuisance. "You know... the base is filled with lots of materials, so we can make new toys when we get there."

He looked at Medeia enthusiastically. "Really? You know how to make new toys?"

She tried to smile softly. "I can try. Now start packing your things."

Jeremy nodded, then ran quickly to his room with the other children.

"You are very good with children, Miss Medeia," Sister Jeanne praised. "I hear there are a lot of pregnant women on the base?"

It was more like she was good at acting.

Medeia nodded. "Yes, at the moment there are eight pregnant women. Their condition wasn’t so good because they had been living underground for years, so your arrival will be a breath of fresh air for them."

The women had never had a proper health check, so Medeia could guess that they would appreciate Sister Jeanne’s ability more than anything else.

Sister Jeanne smiled graciously. "I’m glad if I can help."

The night felt so short while they were busy. Before they knew it, the sun had risen from the east, signaling the first batch to leave the village.

After Harry listed the batch group, he realized that there were only seven people who could drive cars.

That was because when the radiation hit Arcion fifteen years ago, the villagers under the age of 30 were just kids back then, and the elderly couldn’t drive for very long.

"It’s okay. The base has a lot of big trucks, so seven drivers are more than enough," Lucian assured.

The villagers helped them get their belongings onto the truck while Lucian used the remaining time to talk to Medeia.

Lucian, "I’ll be back in the village at night, so you better take care of yourself until then."

Medeia chuckled. "I had already take care of myself before you come."

But once she tasted the sugar, she would crave it again.

Medeia could take care of herself, but the idea of being protected by Lucian made her happy.

"I have something for you." Medeia asked Lucian to turn his palms up and then placed a silver ring on his palms. "Don’t ask me where I got it, but this ring can track our condition while we are separated."
