Surviving the Apocalypse: All I Want Is to Find a Husband
Chapter 41: Emergency Meeting (1)

Chapter 41: Emergency Meeting (1)

The villagers flocked to the gate as they heard Medeia and Lucian had returned.

Wide smiles appeared on the children’s faces as they ran and hugged Medeia tightly. She grunted softly, resisting the urge to push the little gremlins away.

"Miss Medeia, we miss you!" cried Lilac. Big tears streamed down her round cheeks as she kept imagining the worst possible scenario since Medeia left.

Sticky brat.

She even rubbed her runny nose on Medeia’s jacket!

"Here, just eat the candy." Medeia shoved a piece of Sugar Flower into Lilac’s mouth, making her immediately stop crying and jumped several times because of the sweet.

"More! More! I want more!" Lilac tugged at Medeia’s jacket, demanding that she give her more sweet.

"I don’t have any more." She lied because she didn’t want to give all of her sweets to the little gremlin. "If you promise not to cry every minute, maybe I can give you more in the future."

Her words were basically just another lie to calm Lilac down, because who in their right mind wanted to fight giant bees just to get a sugar flower?

Not Medeia, obviously.

But Lilac took her promise seriously. She puffed up her cheeks and tried her best not to shed a single tear.

How ... How cute.

Medeia immediately slapped her own cheeks.

"M-Miss Medeia, are you alright?" asked Lilac concernly.

Medeia pushed the pouch into Lilac’s hands. "Here ... just take it all. Now go and share the sweet with your friends. Don’t bother me again because I need to talk to the adults."

Lilac smiled broadly, revealing her white teeth. "Thank you!" She gave Medeia one last hug before running around to share the sweets with her friends.

After the little kids had left her, another one came to her.

"Medeia!"

Medeia sighed heavily and spoke in an annoyed tone. "What now?!"

"I didn’t kill anyone while you were away," Nico said proudly.

Medeia tilted her head. "Okay." Nico continued to smile at her, his feet couldn’t stop tapping on the ground, and Medeia thought she saw an imaginary tail wagging behind Nico.

The boy was waiting for a compliment.

Medeia patted his head hesitantly and said, "You did well, boy." She continued, "And it would be even better if you didn’t bother me right now. Just ... do something else, like ... feed Bear! Oh, he must be starving and waiting for a good boy to bring fresh meat."

"Tian caught a big boar yesterday! I can bring him some pieces of meat!" said Nico enthusiastically.

"Good." Medeia shooed him away. "Now go."

She let out a long sigh as no more children came to bother her. Who would have thought that dealing with a bunch of kids would be more tiring than fighting a Grade-S monster.

"What’s happening here?" Tian walked toward the car with sleepy eyes. He rubbed his eyes a few times to make sure he didn’t see anything wrong. "Is that a car?"

Medeia clapped her hands, "100 points for you! Congratulations, you don’t need glasses!"

Tian huffed, "Stop playing around." He approached the truck and looked at Harry and Simon who were unloading the wooden boxes from the truck. "Where did you get all this stuff?"

"And where did you get this car?" Simon seemed both confused and excited, "The car looks well maintained and ... fuel! There is a lot of fuel in the jerrycans!"

"Whoa, I must be dreaming!" Ren shouted excitedly. He ran around the truck before climbing into the driver’s seat. "Brother! I can finally learn to drive!"

Tian immediately pulled his brother out of the truck. "Don’t touch the steering if you can’t drive. Let’s help Harry get the boxes down."

Ren refused, "Why? They even hasn’t explained where these things came from yet! What if we bring dangerous things into the village?"

"You’re just making excuses not to help." Tian slapped his brother on the back of the head and said, "And don’t just accuse people like that."

Medeia hadn’t expected Tian to defend her of all people.

"You’re right. Never let anything enter the village carelessly." Lucian said, "How about we open the boxes first and then decide which items can enter the village and which must be hidden?"

Tian narrowed his eyes. "It’s not like you brought anything dangerous, is it?"

Medeia smiled. "Oh, you’ll see ..."

When Lucian opened the lids of the boxes, their faces darkened and they couldn’t help but open their jaws wide.

Ren stuttered, "T-those are ... g-guns and rifles!"

Medeia backed away when she heard his shout. "Yes, everyone can see it clearly, so you don’t need to shout."

The ammunition was hard to find after years, so people had abandoned this weapon long ago and used other practical weapons such as knives, arrows, or swords.

Therefore, it was the first time they had seen these holy weapons again.

Even if they couldn’t kill high-grade monsters with bullets alone, they could at least use it to kill the low-grade monsters and bandits.

"Where did you get them?" asked Ren hysterically.

Lucian told them what they had been through the past few days. Their expressions changed as the story progressed, but they were relieved that Lucian and Medeia were able to escape the danger.

After Lucian finished the story, Ren looked as if he had been hit by a truck. "Y-you... you killed everyone in the base?"

Lucian seemed uncomfortable talking about it, so Medeia decided to fill in for him. "Not everyone. Lucian only killed a few men and their leaders, while others chickened out and ran away."

"That’s impressive!" praised Simon. "I really hope I can see your ability!"

Lucian chuckled awkwardly. "It’s not that impressive ... really."

Fortunately, Tian changed the subject by saying, "This place really has an endless supply of water?"

"Yes, the springs have never run out of water, and because of the canyon area, it will be easy for me to protect the springs even without Nico’s shield," Lucian explained.

The Stormclad could protect the springs from the monster because of Redbeard’s ability, and many hunters had protected them when Redbeard had left the base.

However, Lucian was able to hide the springs from the monsters by manipulating the canyon’s terrain.

And combined with Nico’s shield ability, no human or monster could lay a finger on the springs.

Lucian, "That’s why I think the base is more suitable for us," he said, "We can rebuild the base and use it as our home."

"Impossible." Harry looked away and gritted his teeth. "It’s impossible to move everyone so far away."

"It’s only a six hour drive." Medeia suggested, "Instead of repeating our discussion later, why don’t we wake everyone up and hold an emergency meeting?"
