Surviving the Apocalypse: All I Want Is to Find a Husband -
Chapter 40: Welcome Home
Chapter 40: Welcome Home
Lucian moved the canyon walls with his telekinetic, creating a maze so that no outsiders could enter the base while Lucian and Medeia returned to Willow Village.
"We’ll be back in four days." Medeia patted Matilda’s shoulder. "In the meantime, I’ll entrust the base to you."
Besides making the labyrinth, Lucian had also repaired the damaged building so the women could comfortably live and sleep inside the base.
Lucian, "The maze is unsolvable, so please don’t go into it or you’ll be stuck there until I come back."
Tilly folded her hands and sighed heavily. "It feels like you want to trap us here too."
"I don’t, Miss Tilly." Lucian smiled. "I don’t have the motivation to kill people until next week."
Tilly looked at him in horror and slowly stepped away from him.
"I’m so sorry, I’m just kidding." He laughed softly and handed her a map of the canyon. "If something bad happens to this base, you can take this emergency path. It will take you to the nearest abandoned town where you can hide until I find you."
The route on the hand-drawn map looked so detailed. He had carefully drawn roads, tunnels, and potential dangers on it, so they would be safe as long as they used his map.
"How exactly did you have time to draw something like that?" asked Medeia in disbelief.
"I drew it last night."
Medeia narrowed her eyes, noticing faint dark circles under his eyes. "So you haven’t slept all night?"
"I’m fine." Lucian opened the pickup truck door for Medeia after Bear jumped into the back cargo. "Get in, we have to go now."
"I can’t let you drive when you haven’t slept all night! Let me drive!"
Lucian asked calmly, "Can you drive?"
Medeia kept her mouth shut for a moment before she mumbled, "I can’t," she huffed, "But how hard can it be? I just ... press the pedals and steer to make that thing move, right?"
Lucian chuckled softly. He reached out and ruffled her hair, his fingers running through the strands with playful ease. "It’s more than that, Medeia."
The way he pronounced her name was so soft and enigmatic that it sent an electrifying sensation through Medeia’s heart. As he continued, she lost the ability to speak, "Skipping a night’s sleep is no big deal to me. So get it now and just be my passenger princess."
Passenger ... Princess ...
His princess?
Medeia didn’t quite understand that term, but the word ’princess’ alone was enough to make her jump into the passenger seat and act like a good kitten. "Okay, let’s go! I will be your princess."
Lucian leaned over her to buckle her in. The closeness caught her off guard and made her hold her breath. When he clicked it, he said, "There. Now you are ready to be my princess." He smiled and shut the door.
"Miss Matilda, take care of yourself," Lucian said before getting into the car and driving away from the base.
Medeia rolled down the window and reached out to feel the breeze. "It feels nice," she leaned in further, letting the wind ruffle her long hair wildly. "This is my first time in a car."
Lucian looked at her out of the corner of his eye, one hand steady on the wheel. "Really?"
The only things she could ride in hell were hellhounds and demon beasts, but of course, she could not tell Lucian that. So she simply pretended to be sad and answered, "My family was poor. How about you? Were you rich?"
Based on his appearance and the way he acted towards others, Medeia couldn’t imagine that he grew up in a poor family. His manners and demeanor were too elegant, so he certainly came from a prosperous family.
"My family was ... decent enough," Lucian said hesitantly. "But it doesn’t matter how rich we were, because money had lost its value a long time ago."
Yes, he was definitely rich.
Medeia let out a forlorn sigh. If only they’d met when the world hadn’t collapsed, she might have had a chance to become a trophy wife, buying lots of jewelry and luxury items with her husband’s money.
"What a shame," she muttered.
As the wind grew colder, Medeia closed the window and shifted her position. She leaned against the window and read every street sign she saw to relieve her boredom.
Not only did her boredom disappear, but she even fell asleep in the middle of trying to remember how many stop signs she had seen.

"Medeia," she felt a gentle tap on her arms. "We’re almost arrived at the village."
Her eyes fluttered open. She was surprised to see that the sky had darkened. "How long have I been asleep?"
Lucian counted the hours in his mind. "About ... six hours."
Medeia immediately sat up. "That long?! Why don’t you wake me up?!"
She couldn’t drive the car, but she could entertain him on the way and make sure he didn’t fall asleep.
"You look tired." Lucian smiled. "Besides, you are my passenger princess, so you can sleep as much as you want."
Medeia pouted and started to despise that term. If being his princess meant letting him sacrifice a lot for her, then Medeia didn’t want that title anymore.
"I want to learn how to drive." Before Lucian could reject her idea, she told him, "That way, I can use my drive skill to survive when I’m alone. Will you teach me, Lucian?"
Lucian could not refuse if she used that excuse. "Alright. I’ll teach you once we get back to the base."
Medeia smiled broadly as she had more opportunities to spend time alone with Lucian. "Okay."
Lucian pulled the emergency brake as the car pulled up to Willow Village. A golden shield still covered the whole village, so they couldn’t just enter it.
Luckily, the person guarding the village gate that night was Harry. He frowned and raised his weapon as soon as he saw a strange vehicle stop right in front of the village gate.
But he calmed down when Lucian and Medeia got out of the car.
"Where did you get this car?" Harry asked confused. "And where the hell did you get the fuel?"
Medeia yawned and stretched her body after sitting on the seat for six hours. "It’s a long story. Hurry up and ask Nico to open the shield." She zipped up her jacket. "It’s chilling out here."
Harry immediately ran to wake Nico, but came back to say, "Welcome home, Medeia, Lucian."
