Surviving the Apocalypse: All I Want Is to Find a Husband -
Chapter 35: Leave or Stay?
Chapter 35: Leave or Stay?
Medeia let out a forlorn sigh as Lucian beheaded James. If only he knew she loved to eat humans’ souls, maybe he would let Medeia take James’s last breath.
Or ... maybe he would be afraid of her and look at her as if she were a lunatic.
’Such a waste of food.’
[Host, eating too many souls in one day will make your stomach ache].
’Nonsense! I can even eat 100 souls in a day!’
[The system has already reminded you, if Host’s stomach gets sick in the future, please don’t blame the system.]
’When have I ever blamed you for my misfortune?’
[....]
The system remained silent after that, so Medeia didn’t talk to it anymore. She turned her eyes to Lucian, who had been looking at James’ headless body for a while.
"What do you feel?" Medeia asked, "You must hate him so much, right?"
"I do." The sword in his hand fell to the ground with a clatter. "I want to end his life for so long, to make him pay for everything he’s done to my family."
Medeia knew something was wrong in his heart, so she asked, "But?"
"It’s empty." His golden hair fell into his eyes. "I thought killing him would bring peace, but ... all I feel is nothing. His death won’t bring my parents back to life."
Lucian began to wonder if maybe his decision to kill him was a wrong move.
"Yes, it won’t." Medeia continued, "But it’s not meaningless either. You may feel empty, but for the women he captured ... His death was something to celebrate. Oh, I even want to eat cake after seeing his corpse."
Lucian chuckled. "Too bad we can’t buy cakes at the bakery."
It would be nice if Medeia could take Lucian on a date to a cafe or a bakery.
But the system chose to throw her soul into a hellish world filled with monsters and rotten food.
Bad system.

"Excuse me, I don’t want to interrupt your moment, but I think we need to discuss something." Matilda had been standing behind them for a while, waiting for them to pay attention to other people as well.
Medeia let out a heavy sigh, then turned around. "What?"
"It’s about the women," she began, her voice low but firm, "Many of us have lived in the bunker for years, so we don’t have much information about the outside world. If you don’t mind, can you tell us where we can find safe places?"
Most of them were nomads before they were captured by Stormclad. Even if their families were still alive, they could not know their whereabouts.
Therefore, they did not know where to go.
"I don’t think other places are safe either." Lucian told her, "I’ve seen other places, and believe me, it’s no sanctuary."
Matilda frowned. "But there must be someplace—"
Lucian cut her off, "If you are not strong enough, you are just trading one hell for another."
Medeia knew that Lucian had not exaggerated the situation to Matilda. The reason he had survived so far was simply because he was strong enough to protect himself and find food by hunting the monsters.
If the women followed his way of life, they wouldn’t survive at all. Besides, twelve of them were pregnant, so it would be hard for them to fight.
"Then what should we do?" Matilda seemed upset. She had been planning to escape the base for years, but when she reached it, reality was not as kind as her dream.
Medeia answered in Lucian’s place, "This place is not a bad place to live. There is an endless source of water and plenty of food in the camp if it survives Lucian’s power."
Lucian scratched his head in embarrassment. "I think they put the warehouse in the basement, so it will survive, right?"
"That’s okay. If there is no food left, we still have plenty of meat here."
Medeia pointed at the lifeless body around them, causing Matilda to freak out. "No! Oh, God, no! We don’t do cannibalism here!"
"Of course, I’m joking, silly!" She laughed awkwardly.
They had been living in hell for fifteen years, so how come cannibalism wasn’t a thing yet!
Who cared about morality when there was nothing left to eat.
Medeia didn’t think about it any further because Matilda was making a fuss about Lucian’s suggestion.
"How could you suggest that we stay here?" Matilda seemed offended. "All this time, all we wanted was to leave this base, not live here forever."
Medeia shrugged. "Well, it’s just a suggestion, not something you have to do. Whether you stay or leave this place, it’s on you."
Medeia thought that persuading people to stay was a tiring job, so she didn’t give a damn about their life decision.
But her words caused Matilda to hesitate. She stared at Lucian, "Are you sure there is no safe place for us?"
Lucian said firmly, "I can guarantee you that leaving this place is the worst option. He continued, "Even if there is a safe place, will you be able to get there? Monsters and the Losts still exist, you know."
Matilda gulped. "If we decide to stay, isn’t this place dangerous for us as well? People from other alliances will come here if no one sends water supplies to their base."
"How many alliances work with Stormclad?" asked Medeia.
"Three. Coalhaven, War Stock, and Junk Garden."
Medeia twitched her eyes because the names of those alliances were worse than her demon pets’ name.
Based on their names, Medeia could guess that Coalhaven traded gas for water, War Stock produced weapons, but what about Junk Garden?
"Did James trade water for junk?" wondered Medeia.
Lucian laughed quietly. "No, Medeia. Junk Garden collects many things, like food, old clothes, or even entertainment like books."
Medeia was intrigued. "Books? Do you think they collect romance novels? Lucian, can we go there?"
"We can check it out when we send them the water supplies."
Matilda frowned. "Send the water supplies? Are you saying that we will continue Stormclad’s cooperation with other alliances?"
