Chapter 123: Fluffy Fur (2)
Chapter 123: Fluffy Fur (2)
Medeia suddenly frowned, her lips forming a pout. "They’re too fluffy."
She had a soft spot for fluffy, adorable animals because they had a way of melting her anger and bringing her comfort. How could she possibly bring herself to harm one of these gentle giants, let alone skin their fur?
How?!
Medeia sat behind the bushes, covering her face with her hands in frustration. "Lucian ... What should I do?" she murmured. "I need their fur, but they’re just too cute!"
Lucian tilted his head. "Do you want me to get it for you?"
Medeia gasped, immediately turning to him with disbelief. "You want to kill a fluffy animal?!"
He could kill anyone in the world, but not the fluffy ones!
There was nothing more evil than someone who could harm adorable animals!
Lucian chuckled softly. "No, I’m not going to kill them," he said. "Do you know what fluffy animals do?" He gestured for Bear to sit on his lap and began brushing its fur. "They shed. See?"
A large amount of black fur came off Bear’s body, and when Medeia touched it, the fur still felt so soft and fluffy.
’Can I get the fur this way?’ Medeia asked the system to confirm.
[Yes, Host! Luckily, you can!]
Her eyes immediately lit up, and she couldn’t help but throw her arms around Lucian. "Lucian, you’re a genius!"
Lucian had no idea what made Medeia think he was a genius when he was simply sharing basic knowledge. However, he gently patted her back and smiled. "So, do you want to meet the big fluffy mammoths now?"
Without answering his question, Medeia stepped out of the bushes and slowly walked toward a large mammoth that was picking grass with its trunk.
She moved quietly and carefully, trying not to startle the mammoth. When she was close enough, Medeia stopped and stood still, letting the mammoth notice her presence.
The mammoth tilted its massive head, then lowered its trunk toward Medeia’s face and hair, as if it wanted to sniff her scent.
"I’m not here to hurt you, so do you mind if I touch you?" Medeia asked in a gentle tone, perhaps even gentler than when she spoke to humans.
After all, animals were kinder and softer than humans, so they deserved more of her gentle side.
The mammoth didn’t react aggressively, so Medeia slowly raised her hand and touched its trunk. Unexpectedly, the mammoth lowered its head further, allowing her to touch its forehead.
Lucian approached from behind, smiling. "I think she likes you. When Bear and I first met them, they tried to attack me."
Medeia chuckled softly. "Maybe it’s because Bear was so big back then, so they saw you both as threats."
"Or maybe it’s because you’re more lovable than me," Lucian said, placing his hand on the mammoth’s head. "You’re such a sweet girl."
Though Lucian was clearly talking to the mammoth, for some reason, Medeia couldn’t shake the feeling that his words were directed at her.
She pretended to cough to brush off the thought. "Do you want to help me collect their fur?"
"Of course. What are you planning to do with it?"
"It’s a surprise," Medeia replied with a sly smile. "So, you’re not allowed to know just yet."
Making a blanket from shed fur would take more effort since she needed to turn it into yarn first, but it was far better than skinning the fur off their bodies.
Medeia would do anything to protect those fluffy mammoths!
She took out a few sacks from her Space Pocket and began gathering the shed fur with Lucian.
Since some of the mammoths had gotten wet in the lake, Medeia had to dry their fur first before putting it into the sacks.
"We might have to stay here tonight," Lucian said. "Should we set up the tent now?"
Medeia looked around, noticing that the place was perfect for staying the night. Because of the mammoths’ presence, the other mutants didn’t dare approach the waterfall.
"Yeah, this spot feels safe. Let’s set up camp here," replied Medeia.
Lucian went to work, efficiently setting up the tent while Medeia finished packing the fur into the sacks.
The sound of the waterfall in the distance was calming, and the presence of the mammoths made the area feel even more secure.
Once the tent was ready, Lucian looked over at Medeia. "All set. We can rest here tonight, but don’t you think the tent feels a bit cramped for two people? Didn’t I give you a bigger one?"
Medeia quickly replied, "What do you mean? You gave me this one, not another tent."
Why would she bring a bigger tent?
The purpose of camping was to sleep in a small, cramped tent so they could cuddle and keep warm as the temperature dropped.
She would never throw away such an opportunity.
Lucian raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced by her response. "Hmm, I see. Well, if you say so," he stepped inside the tent. "I suppose we’ll make do with what we have."
Once the night came, Lucian lit a campfire and carefully arranged the wood to keep the flames steady.
Medeia sat beside him, her hands stretched toward the fire. "The temperature dropped quickly, didn’t it?" She said, rubbing her palms together.
Lucian wrapped his arm around her shoulders and gently pulled her closer. "How about now? Feeling warmer?"
Medeia nodded, then placed her head on his shoulder. "Better."
She wanted to hug him, but Bear suddenly growled and its ears perked up. It turned its head toward the bush, as if it sensed something bad behind it.
Medeia immediately lifted her head from Lucian’s shoulder. "What is it?" She whispered.
Lucian stood up and walked toward the wolf. He commanded, "Grow."
Within seconds, the wolf transformed into a massive black beast, its sharp fangs protruding from its powerful snout.
"Step back." Lucian pushed the wolf gently. "Protect her for me."
