Chapter 122: Fluffy Fur (1)

It was actually denser than mist, so perhaps fog was the right word to describe it.

"The humidity in this forest is very high, so it’s always covered in fog, especially in the mornings and at night," Lucian explained as he waved his hand, dispersing the fog around him with his telekinetic ability.

However, the fog was so thick that it reappeared in less than three minutes, as if it had never been disturbed.

Medeia followed him closely. "The fog might seem like a nuisance, but if you think about it, it’s actually pretty useful," she said. "It can help us hide our presence from the fierce mutants."

Lucian nodded. "You’re right. But because of this environment, the creatures living here have developed sharper hearing and a heightened sense of smell."

Just like evolution, after living in a place where sight wasn’t as reliable for a long time, the mutants began to develop other ways to detect their prey.

If that was the case, even the slightest sound could trigger something in the middle of the fog. Because of this, Lucian had been speaking in a much quieter voice since they arrived.

"I guess we’ll have to talk like this from now on," Medeia whispered, her voice so soft it was almost inaudible. She patted Bear’s head and warned it, "You can’t make any noise either. Can you do that?"

Bear gently booped its snout against Medeia’s hand, then rubbed its head against her legs, as if to reassure her that it would stay quiet and be a good boy.

Along the way, Medeia noticed that the flora in the forest was unlike anything she had ever seen before. Every plant and flower had unique patterns and vibrant colors.

Medeia thought the Black Zone forest would look as gloomy as the X-Zone, but it turned out to be entirely different.

Technically, the fog covered these beautiful plants for half the day, but when it thinned during the other half, everyone could see them clearly.

In addition to their breathtaking appearance, the flowers also emitted a sweet fragrance, so intoxicating that it drew Medeia closer to smell it.

But before she could get any closer, Lucian pulled her hand. "No," he warned. "Don’t touch anything here."

"Why?" Medeia creased her forehead. "The flowers doesn’t seem danger—"

She closed her mouth tightly as she watched a little rabbit walk toward the pink-petaled flower and sniff its sweet fragrance.

In an instant, the flower’s petals suddenly opened, revealing hidden fangs beneath its beauty.

It devoured the little rabbit, tearing its flesh bit by bit.

Medeia’s face turned pale. If Lucian hadn’t pulled her hand, she might have lost it.

[The Teeth Pink Flower (Grade-B) detected!]

[Please, be careful, Host!]

She almost lost her hand, but the system gave her a warning so slowly!

Medeia quickly ran to Lucian’s side, hiding behind his back so she wouldn’t get near any of those dangerous flowers. "What the hell is that?"

Lucian answered in a low voice, "Most of the plants here are carnivorous. They have bright colors and sweet scents to lure their prey closer and then bite it."

[Yes, Host! You should be more careful before you touch anything!]

Medeia took a deep breath, trying not to get frustrated with the system for its poor timing in issuing a warning.

The system had been slacking off ever since Lucian started taking care of her.

But putting that aside, how could the flower be just a Grade-B mutant? If that was Grade-B, what would a Grade-S flower look like?

Maybe the tree could eat her head without her noticing. Alright, that would be a nightmare to suddenly dying like that.

"Let’s find the mammoth using the compass." Medeia took out the compass. "It will save our time."

Lucian shook his head. "No need to use the compass. I know where we can find them. Bear and I accidentally found their nest back then."

"Where is it?"

Lucian smiled. "Somewhere. Just follow me."

Now, he was the one acting mysterious.

Medeia almost ran out of patience after they had been walking for almost two hours. Every time she asked Lucian when they would arrive, he would say "soon," but she had asked him that about thirty minutes ago.

"Do you really know the place?" Medeia sighed, clearly frustrated from walking through the forest. The forest was beautiful, but the path was so annoying.

Aside from the rocks, the tree roots jutted out and overlapped on the ground. Medeia had tripped at least six times since they started walking.

"Don’t worry, we’re almost there."

Medeia, who was about to protest, suddenly heard the sound of flowing water in the distance, and the air around her began to get colder. The sound resembled a waterfall, but she wasn’t entirely sure.

"Do you hear what I hear?" she asked.

Lucian only responded with a smile. After walking for another ten minutes, they finally arrived at a breathtaking spot. He gently pulled her to hide behind the bushes, giving her a clear view of the waterfall scene ahead.

Medeia peeked through the bushes, she held her breath at the sight before her.

The waterfall cascaded down from towering cliffs, its waters sparkling under the sunlight that managed to pierce through the fog. The pool below shimmered with a faint blue glow, likely caused by some kind of bioluminescent plants or minerals.

But what truly caught her attention were the creatures gathered near the waterfall, woolly figures with fluffy brown fur.

The mutant mammoths.

[Frostveil Mammoth (Grade-SS): Mutated Mammoth.]

[Frostveil Mammoth’s fur is incredibly warm and water-resistant, making it perfect for winter.]

"There they are," Lucian whispered, "This is their watering hole. They come here to drink and rest."

Medeia observed the mammoths in awe. They were larger than she had imagined, with long tusks and a massive trunk that could hold gallons of water.

Despite their massive size, the mammoths were incredibly gentle and calm.

"They ... look so fluffy and cute," Medeia murmured.

Lucian nodded. "They are. Actually, they don’t attack humans or other creatures unless they feel threatened. That’s because they only eat carnivorous plants," he explained. "So, what do you want to do with them?"
