Surprise Marriage to a Billionaire
Chapter 444: Boss You Around

Chapter 444: Boss You Around

Rock stared at the building again, then turned to look at her. "You really went this far?" he asked quietly.

Vernice nodded, biting her lip. "I had to. You were dragging your feet. I know you, Rock. You’d keep delaying the surgery until it’s too late. So if getting married today helps you finally take care of yourself, then I’m doing it."

Her tone left no room for argument. Rock blinked, unsure if he should laugh or panic, but the conviction in her eyes made it clear: she wasn’t backing down.

"Alright, let’s do it," Rock finally said, his voice steady.

Vernice’s eyes lit up, and without a word, she threw her arms around him, hugging him tightly. Relief and joy poured out of her in that single embrace.

"Thank you," she whispered against his chest, holding on like she never wanted to let go. "I thought you were going to resist. You always make things difficult when it’s about your surgery."

Rock sighed, wrapping his arms around her as well. "You tricked me, Vernice," he said, a soft chuckle in his tone. "But I’ve learned one thing when you set your mind on something, there’s no stopping you."

She pulled back just enough to look up at him, her eyes glistening. "Because I love you. And because if marrying you is the only way to make you do the surgery, then so be it."

He smiled, brushing her cheek gently. "You didn’t have to go this far... but I get it. So let’s go. Let’s get married."

Vernice beamed, taking his hand and pulling him toward the Civil Registrar Office with excitement buzzing in her every step.

Inside the Civil Affairs Bureau, things were moving quickly, much faster than anyone expected. Ben stood to the side while Melanie sat beside him, holding a small bouquet Vernice had hastily picked up on the way.

The officiant cleared his throat and motioned for them to come forward. "We can begin now. Please, bride and groom, step up."

As Vernice and Rock moved to the center, Melanie passed the bouquet to Vernice and gave her a quick wink. Ben stood quietly, nodding once in silent support.

The officiant looked at the couple and said, "Now, please repeat the standard vows after me-"

But Vernice quickly spoke up. "Actually, I’d like to say my own vows, if that’s okay."

The officiant nodded. "Go ahead."

Rock looked surprised but smiled gently. He could already feel her words coming from the heart.

Vernice took a deep breath and looked straight into his eyes.

"I didn’t expect you to come into my life the way you did," she said. "You were quiet and stubborn, always trying to handle everything on your own. But slowly, you let me in. And I saw the real you, kind, strong, and always thinking of others."

Her voice shook a little, and she blinked away her tears.

"I love you, Rock. I love you for who you are and everything you’ve been through. I promise to stay by your side. Even when things are hard, even when you try to push me away. I’ll fight for you. Because you’re worth it. You’re the only man I want to spend my life with."

Rock’s jaw tightened, his eyes glistening with emotion.

The officiant nodded at him. "Now it’s your turn."

Rock swallowed hard and nodded. "I didn’t prepare anything," he said honestly. "But I’ll say this." He looked at Vernice, holding her hands tighter. "You came into my life like a storm. I didn’t know how to handle you. I was scared to let you in because I didn’t want you to see my weakness. But you stayed. You never gave up on me."

His voice cracked slightly. "I promise to love you through everything. Through my surgery, through the pain, through every good and bad day. I promise to try and be the kind of man you deserve."

For a moment, the room fell completely silent.

"Please exchange marriage rings," the officiant said gently.

Rock turned, clearly surprised, as Vernice reached into her purse and pulled out a small velvet box.

His eyes widened. "How did you-"

Vernice gave him a sheepish smile and glanced at Ben. "Ah... It’s not Ben’s fault," she said quickly. "We’re about to get married, and of course, we need rings. I was going to ask him to help me buy some."

She paused, then added, "But it turns out you already ordered these. According to Ben, you picked them yourself. So I just asked him to bring them instead."

Rock looked at Ben, then back at Vernice, the shock slowly melting into a quiet smile. His eyes softened as he realized she had found something he meant to save for a more ’perfect’ day.

It wasn’t the grand wedding he originally planned. But right here, with Vernice standing beside him, so determined and full of love, it felt perfect all the same.

Then the officiant smiled and said, "By the power given to me, I now pronounce you husband and wife."

Vernice had to hold back more tears as Rock leaned in and kissed her. It wasn’t a long kiss, but it was gentle and full of love.

Melanie clapped enthusiastically. "Aww! You two are officially husband and wife!"

Ben grinned. "Now we better get back before the boys throw a fit that they wasn’t here."

Vernice laughed softly, resting her forehead against Rock’s.

Rock wrapped an arm around her, his voice low. "Now that we’re married, you’re not allowed to boss me around too much."

"You’re right," she said, smirking up at him. "I’ll only boss you around a little."

Rock chuckled, pulling her even closer. "Just a little, huh? I’ll remember that."

Vernice grinned and stood on tiptoe to kiss his cheek. "You better. Because once you recover from your surgery, I plan to boss you around with love."

He rolled his eyes playfully, but the warmth in his gaze was undeniable. "As long as it’s with love, I guess I can survive it."
