Chapter 431: We Have Each Other

Chapter 431: We Have Each Other

Rain stayed at Lamey Country, overseeing her mother’s treatment alongside her father. Unlike before, her father had regained much of his health. Gone were the days when he had lost weight and sported dark circles under his eyes. It was clear to anyone that he was in a much better condition, both physically and emotionally.

"Seriously, you got your appetite from your mom. Summer was a glutton," Arlan joked as he watched Rain eat her lunch with him and Alexander in Summer’s room.

Rain pouted and defended herself, "Dad, I’m eating this much because I’ve got two babies inside of me."

Arlan’s eyes lit up with joy at that fact. He still couldn’t quite believe he was going to be a grandfather. He turned to Summer, who lay unconscious in her bed and spoke softly to her.

"You hear that, darling? Our daughter’s having twins! You need to wake up soon so you can meet them." Arlan’s voice was filled with hope and excitement.

Rain smiled, her heart swelling with love for her father. It had been days since Arlan’s mood had lifted, and she was grateful to see him in such high spirits.

The doctors had advised them to talk to her mother even while she was unconscious, as they believed it could help her respond to them.

They explained that talking to her about the past, and about how she ended up in her current state, would help her during treatment. The doctors believed that even though she was unconscious, her mind could still process the information.

They told Rain and her father that once her mother reached a point where her curiosity was piqued, when she started wanting to know more, to question what had happened or whether the stories were true, it would stimulate her brain and increase the chances of her waking up soon.

At first, they were hesitant, unsure if it was the right thing to do, but the doctors strongly urged them to update her mother on everything that had happened.

So her father recounted everything to her mother in the past days, the truth about how Tim had swapped the babies, how Rain was their real daughter.

And it seemed to be working because they saw her mother’s tears falling from beneath her closed eyelids when her father told her that details. It was a good sign. The thought of that gave Rain a flicker of hope.

She could already see the small signs that her mother was responding to the updates, and it made her believe that, sooner rather than later, Summer would return to them.

"I just hope Mom will be able to handle everything once she wakes up," Rain said softly, her voice laced with worry. She glanced over at her mother, lying peacefully in the bed, still unconscious. "I’m sure she really loved Carla, and that’s why it’s so hard for her to hear all of this. I saw how much she cared for her... it’s going to be a lot for her to process."

Arlan’s expression softened as he reached out to hold her hand. "I know, darling. It’s going to be tough for her, but we’re here. We’ll help her through it. And when she wakes up, we’ll face everything together as a family." He paused, looking at Summer’s still form. "She’s strong, just like you. You and Summer, you both have the kind of strength that... it’s hard to explain. But I know she’ll pull through."

Rain nodded but couldn’t shake the knot of worry in her chest. The truth would be hard for her mother to accept, especially after everything she had believed about Carla. But Rain was determined to be there for her mother, no matter what.

"I still can’t believe this all happened," Arlan murmured, glancing from Rain to the sleeping Summer. "To think that we lost so many years, and now... now I get to be a grandfather. And of two babies soon!" His voice cracked a little, and Rain could see the emotional weight behind his words.

"I know, Dad," Rain said gently. "It’s a lot to take in. But we’re here now, and we’ll make it all right."

As she finished her meal, she stood and walked over to her mother’s side. She gently took her mother’s hand, bringing it to her cheek, as tears welled up in her eyes. "Please wake up, Mom," she whispered. "I need you. We need you."

The room was quiet, save for the soft hum of the machines monitoring her mother’s vitals.

For a moment, Rain just stood there, holding her mother’s hand, feeling the weight of everything that had happened, but also the warmth of the family that surrounded her now.

Arlan placed a hand on her shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze. "She’ll be back with us soon," he reassured her. "And then, we’ll be a family again."

Rain nodded, wiping away a stray tear. She glanced back at her father and Alexander, who had been quietly observing her. "We’ll get through this together," she said, her voice steady despite the emotions swirling inside her. "We have each other."

The room felt warmer now, filled with the love and hope that only a family could provide. And for the first time in a long while, Rain allowed herself to believe that maybe, just maybe, everything would be okay.

Alexander gently pulled Rain into his embrace, his arms wrapping around her comfortingly. "Remember, our babies will feel your emotions, so try to avoid stress and crying," he murmured, his voice full of warmth and care.

Rain chuckled through her tears, appreciating his gentle reminder. "You’re right," she said, her voice trembling slightly as he wiped away her tears with his thumb. "I just can’t help it sometimes."

He smiled, brushing a lock of hair from her face, his eyes full of love and reassurance. "I know. And I’ll always be here to be your reminder..."

Rain rested her head against his chest, letting the steady beat of his heart soothe her. She felt a sense of peace in his embrace where the weight of everything seemed just a little bit lighter.
